I'm pretty chilled about it tbh. I've changed my mind about the Big White Frock - just because it was free doesn't invalidate my many reasons for not wanting one - but that gives my Mum a nice job to do scouting out stuff for me to try on. MIL has promised a cake as our present. My folks have offered to pay for the reception, which is just going to be a quiet family dinner so we'll book a pub with a set meal nearer the time. So it's really just buying clothes and choosing hymns/readings. And paperwork, but we'll do that with the vicar next week.

Oh, and putting all the flowers together. I've got lots of lovely woolly hug ladies knitting and crocheting them (and I've already got enough for a bouquet so I think I'll be yarnbombing the entire church!!) so once those arrive I'll pin them to a bit of lace-covered styrofoam. They'll be auctioned for the Stroke Association after the event through Woolly Hugs so watch out for links on here :o

Dutchoma · 03/09/2014 11:59

I didn't realise the yarn bombing flowers were for you Pidjin. I'd better get some in then.

PurplePidjin · 03/09/2014 12:20

The bright colours are for Mia's Wood, there's another group doing teal and white for me - I'll add you so you can decide if you'd like to make some or not Thanks

Dutchoma · 03/09/2014 14:15

Oh, I see. Not sure I can manage, but will have a look.

PurplePidjin · 03/09/2014 17:45

No pressure xx

nickelbabe · 03/09/2014 22:19

when you say youmv' changed your mind, did you mean you are going with the dress or you aren't?
I didn't read your original thoughts on it.

i didn't want a big wgite frock either, but my green frock was quite big in tthe end - it had a "puddle" train and was just right for me.

niminypiminy · 04/09/2014 09:30

Children back at school today DS1 in his black year 6 sweatshirt, how did that happen? and I'm back into work. Feeling very heavy of heart about coping with huge workload at work, training, starting MA as part of training. I know it's a matter of taking one thing at a time, but at the moment it feels a bit like jumping into the deep end of the swimming pool...

Tuo exciting news that you're going to be in the States!

Our new organist at church is stuck in adagio, and all the hymns have turned into dirges . What about praise and joy?

PositiveAttitude · 04/09/2014 11:03

Pidjin your plans sound amazing. I do hope you will allow us to see some photos.

Meeting went...ok.....ish!! Our minister really does live on another planet!!! Most of the bonkers ideas were laughed at so much that I am sure they wont be mentioned again! he absolutely glared at me for one reasonable comment I made Croissants were a hit and made it all worthwhile. Grin

My first day back at college after 30 years today!

madhairday · 04/09/2014 11:49

Hello niminy - hope today goes well and you settle back into to work stuff, it can all seem very overwhelming at this time of year. My ds is also just starting year 6, he's still so little, it can't be true! :( :) Ugh at the dirgy hymns. Do't mind some reflection, but dirge is just - no. I'm going to see Hillsong United live next week, at the 02 arena :) senses nickel recoiling in horror - 15,000 people screaming worship anthems! Yaaay! Grin Taking dd and some friends, dd is so super excited, it is lovely to see.

Glad the meeting went off OK, PA - church leaders are often on a different planet Wink - hopefully you can come to some good solutions between you!

Dutchoma · 04/09/2014 13:43

Hillsong ... Nickel and Oma

madhairday · 04/09/2014 15:35

As in it's not your thing? Grin

I love it that we're all so different. I can't thing of anything better :) So excited I am feeling sick with it!

thegreenheartofmanyroundabouts · 04/09/2014 15:44

I'm super grumpy as I have two essays to write on a module I'm not enjoying very much. Need tea. I put on so much weight over the summer I'm off the biscuits which is also making me grumpy.

We have a lovely group of confirmation candidates in tonight's course and I must find a sense of proportion and maybe even a sense of humour before then.

Essay, mutter, referencing, mutter, grumble, mutter...

madhairday · 04/09/2014 15:59
Brew
nickelbabe · 04/09/2014 16:03

pidj, you can alter your big meringue into a knee length and fitted dress.

shame you don't live closer, i'd've done it for you.

I love Hillsong! we do every move I make at messy church.

I would not love it at normal church, but it's okay in church youth settings.

nim it might just be that he's still getting used to the organ and how heavy the key presses are.
(I hope)
asst organist at our church plays the ones he doesn't like really fast Grin

madhairday · 04/09/2014 16:21

Normal church, youth church, all the same to me Grin

Fancy the gig then nickel? Grin

lol at the fast organist. Better than dirgy! DH did a service at Christmas at a little village church, the organist was away and they had got some woman who used to be an organist to come and do it. Bless her, I had never heard carols done so slowly, so slow in fact no one could actually sing without running out of breath because the notes lasted so long! dh had to try and keep the singing going, and he has a very strong voice but still couldn't manage. dc and I were trying to stifle our laughter.

nickelbabe · 04/09/2014 16:26
Grin they're always harder to sing along with too that slow!

it's also strapless which i detest. found one in monsoon today for £30 which is much more me, very 50s vintage

PositiveAttitude · 04/09/2014 20:42

Once when we were on holiday we visited a church and during the service we sang a song with about 5 or 6 verses. In every single verse the organist started off fine, lines 1,2,3 & 4, then jumped to lines 7 & 8! Every time he missed out lines 5 & 6. - Can't remember which hymn it was now, but it meant that it made no sense whatsoever. At the end of the service the vicar came and apologised and said that the warden loved the hymn, so asked for it often, but the organist couldn't play lines 5 & 6, so they had compromised by leaving them out. I am not too sure I was able to keep the Hmm Shock [giggle] face straight!!!

Dutchoma · 04/09/2014 21:22

Don't wear the meringue. It's your day, you may wear the dress only for one day but the pictures last forever. Go for the monsoon one
