Welcome to our new prayer thread for summer. This is a safe and supportive place of prayer, where regulars, occasional visitors and lurkers, committed Christians and those just dipping a toe into the water are all equally welcome. Come and leave a prayer, tell us what's going on in your life, bring your worries, hopes, fears and joys to God, and know that you will be prayed for.

We pray, in particular, for...

... ALittleFaith, for her dad to recover well after his recent operation;

... amberlight, for her work raising awareness of the ways in which we can work to make life easier for our autistic friends, and for her to know love and acceptance wherever she goes;

... Badvoc and her family, as they grieve for her dad and for her aunt, and also for her decision about her DS's schooling, and for his health;

... BlackEyedSusan, for all the many things which she has to juggle in her life as a single parent; in particular, we pray for her mum's health, and for health for both her DC, and for her to feel welcomed, accepted and supported at her church;

... BlessedAssurance, for her life with her new baby, for her relationship with her MIL, and for her family who are far away;

... Bluetinkerbell, for her DH's training to go well;

... CharlotteCollins, for her new life as a single mum - may she be happy and fulfilled and supported in it;

... DidotheDodo, thanking God for the safe arrival of her granddaughter;

... DontstepontheMomeRaths, for her life as a single mum, for her finances, for bullying issues around her DD, and for the wonderful work she does through her church supporting people going through separation and divorce;

... DutchOma, as she grieves for Bob, that she may find peace of mind, love and support at this time; also praying for her relationship with her DD, in particular;

... Gingercurl, for her brother who has been out of contact - may be be safe and well, and may he be in touch with Ginger or her sister soon;

... Iwantdogger, for her pregnancy - may her little one hand on in there and grow and develop strong and healthy;

... jan2014 for her decision to split with her DH, and for health and energy for her; also praying for her brother and his family, for his difficulties with alcohol;

... JugglingFromHereToThere, for her sister and her family as they grieve the loss of Juggling's nephew;

... Kaykat, continuing to pray for her and her DS as she goes through the stressful and painful process of divorce;

... MadHairDay, for health for all in the MHD household, and for less stressful times for her DC

... PandaG, as she and her family grieve the loss of her mum;

... PositiveAttitude, as she gets used to living with her DH again after a long time apart and for her new work as a Deacon in her church; also praying for PA's parents' health, and for her DDs and DS in their various situations;

... Question of Faith, for her and for her DH - for his depression to lift and for them to rediscover their love for one another and their lives together;

... Roomforalittleone, for her DS who has pneumonia, and for a good outcome from her Reader panel;

... thegreenheartofmanyroundabouts, after the loss of a close family friend, and for the work that she does with others who are bereaved;

... tunnocksteacake and her family as they cope with her DH's illness;

... weegiemum for strength to cope with her illness; and for

... ZingWhale as she approaches the end of her pregnancy.

We pray also for all regular and occasional visitors, and those we haven't seen for a while, including: boxofdelights, bountyicecream, CheerfulYank, cloutiedumpling, EasyCompadre, FairPhyllis, fluffieduckie, FriendOfDorothy, GoodbyeRubyTuesday, harbinger, JakeBullet, ktef, LollipopViolet, MaryBS, NeverKnowinglyUnderstood, niminypiminy, notquiteagrownup, PloddingDaily, revivingshower, saintsalive, SchrodingersFerret, SEStheBrave, Soozi, SunshinemMum, thehorridestmumintheworld, trish5000, youretoastmildred, and zulubump, and for anyone I've forgotten to name-check (don't take it personally, please!). And we pray for those who read and pray but don't post, for those who need our prayers but are afraid or too uncertain to post them, and for all those known to us in our own lives who need God's love.

Calm us, O Lord, as You stilled the storm.
Still us, O Lord, keep us from harm.
Let all the tumult within us cease.
Enfold us, Lord, in Your peace. Amen.

I had a holiday like that last year with my mother. this year she is a lot better so there is hope. (with the right meds)

Badvoc123 · 23/08/2014 21:22

She has refused meds at least 3 times to my knowledge.
I do think a Low dose ad would help her, but she won't listen.
I just don't get it...WHY go on hols with your gc and then refuse to do anything with them!? She wouldn't go in the pool, would even move from her chair to watch ds2 on the climbing wall, then refused to have a game if mini golf with him :(
We had nice weather but she complained it was cold every day...even went so far as to buy a jumper!
She complained about the food so we stopped going out to eat so I cooked everyday.
It was awful :(

cloutiedumpling · 23/08/2014 21:32

Glad to hear you all had such a good time today at the meetup. Maybe I should organise a Scottish one with weegiemum and AMIS.

Congratulations Blue! What wonderful news.

Badvoc - you have my sympathies.

BlackeyedSusan · 23/08/2014 22:23

I don't know why badvoc. I know my mum had different unfathomable foibles. drove me to breaking point last year. I had to step back a little. I was so stressed and horrible.

Badvoc123 · 23/08/2014 22:27

I think stepping back is my only option really.
Feel terrible about it.
But this is my second night home and I am in bed again with a migraine.
I have 2 siblings and they just don't seem to let it get to them...or rather she is a very different person around them :(

amberlight · 24/08/2014 08:11

Oma, thank you so much for yesterday; it was so lovely to meet everyone.
Keeping prayers going, as ever. I don't post much on here but I do read and pray.

Dutchoma · 24/08/2014 10:08

For your own sake and that of your family, you need to step back a bit Badvoc.

I had such a lovely time yesterday, everything worked so well, so glad everyone had a good time.

A vast amount of cake has gone into the freezer.

BlackeyedSusan · 24/08/2014 12:19

glad you enjoyed it Oma. You seemed very busy.

BlackeyedSusan · 24/08/2014 12:28

I think you have to step back enough to keep your own sanity, without abandonning completely. I got past the point where I needed a break, for your own sanity stop before then.

BlackeyedSusan · 24/08/2014 12:38

just walked into the kitchen to find an enormous caterpillar three foot up the wall!

can't think where that could have come from

Dutchoma · 24/08/2014 13:07

You prayed for caterpillars, BES Don't blame anybody.

BlackeyedSusan · 24/08/2014 13:10

I know I am rediculously excited and have just tung up ex to get him to buy a cauli. not sure the neighbours will appreciate me pinching their nasturtian leaves.

PurplePidjin · 24/08/2014 13:23

Got any dandelions growing in the pavement/garden?

BlackeyedSusan · 24/08/2014 13:34

these caterpillars eat nasturtians and brassicas. they turned their noses up at aubergine. I think tomatoes are poisonous and the plants upstairs could be consumed in one caterpillar bite.

BlackeyedSusan · 24/08/2014 13:39

I really ought to be sorting the flat... wondering whether I have had time off lately...

Dutchoma · 24/08/2014 13:51

Nah, BES, you haven't been anywhere lately, have you?

DontstepontheMomeRaths · 24/08/2014 15:14

What's Cauli?

Dutchoma · 24/08/2014 17:20

A flower

Dutchoma · 24/08/2014 17:21

Rose found another caterpillare that your lot missed!

GingerCurl · 24/08/2014 17:47

What kind of caterpillar? You are more than welcome to the ones that have completely chomped their way through our rose, berberis and gooseberry bushes. Only twigs left. Horrible greedy creatures.
Before I left my home country Dh and i got to hear both sides of the conflict between dbro and dsis. Both are equally convinced that the other is at fault and that they themselves are innocent victims. Trying to stay out of it, i/we said nothing but can see that both sides have a point to some degree. But how it it can be resolved, goodness knows. A lot of humility would be required by all involved. The root causes probably date back from before i was born! Sibling rivalry to the n-th degree. Sad

Dutchoma · 24/08/2014 18:04

These were cabbage whites caterpillars and they only eat nasturtium leaves and cabbage. Fortunately they have left the rest for the slugs and snails.

Oh bless you. DS swallowed a 20p last Summer and it got stuck in the oesophagus behind the heart so the hand held x ray thingy wouldn't pick it up, took an x ray for them to believe me that it was stuck. DS was in pain too. One over night stay and questions about an Endoscopy but thankfully after lots of food it moved and passed through his system Grin kids hey? Prayers your DD has peace, the doctors and nurses are kind and it is resolved soon x

What can I give my caterpillars to eat? Cabbage leaves then?

Dutchoma · 24/08/2014 20:49

Yes, cabbage leaves or cauliflower leaves. I've never seen them on anything apart from brassicas and nasturtiums

BlackeyedSusan · 25/08/2014 00:12
