God's influence

Have nc for this but only becuase I am busy as it were on other threads.

I am having trouble getting my head around something.

I am a committed christian.

When things go wrong, and I am really just talking about very minor things that other people have done to you, how much of that has been orchestrated by God?
Any of it? None of it? Somewhere in between?

Thanks

Reminds me of something I read about bed bugs lining up outside St John's (I think) door.

^staying at an inn.

atthestrokeoftwelve · 21/03/2014 06:37

So at what point in the evolution of man did we achieve "dominion", from our transition from a jungle primate to now, Homo Erectus? Homo Habilis? Or Homo Sapien. Was it a gradual process or did god just give us the certificate one day?

bluepen · 21/03/2014 07:07

The book of Genisis has a lot of answers to most of your questions atthestroketwelve.
I think you know the book well. I saw you quote from it very well on another thread on this board, probably in the last few days.

atthestrokeoftwelve · 21/03/2014 07:25

So you don't believe in evolution?

bluepen · 21/03/2014 07:34

If evolution goes against what is in Genesis, then no.

capsium · 21/03/2014 07:35

Aspects of it. I believe there is hereditary. I believe survival of the fittest can happen. However when we look after and preserve the 'unfit' it overrides this. I would not declare anyone unfit anyway, I believe the Redemption through Christ is available to all. The division between species is also problematic, in evolution, who decides when one is a distinctly different species of human rather than just people with different features? So Darwin's original theories, no.

atthestrokeoftwelve · 21/03/2014 07:38

There are biological definitions of a species though- a group of living organisms consisting of similar individuals capable of exchanging genes or interbreeding.

bluepen · 21/03/2014 07:39

I always marvel at the ability of some posters to discuss the same things over and over.
Bores me rigid I am afraid.
Hence I dont wander over here that often.

capsium · 21/03/2014 07:45

a group of living organisms consisting of similar individuals capable of exchanging genes or interbreeding.

How do you determine that from fossils? Genetic code often degrades in bone fragments as well.

capsium · 21/03/2014 07:47

But hey, this is not something that really bothers me day to day. It doesn't not really figure in my everyday thinking.

So you'll probably get a metaphorical shrug from me too. I've not really pursued the matter greatly.

capsium · 21/03/2014 08:13

So at what point in the evolution of man did we achieve "dominion", (?)

This part is easy though. We achieve Dominion In Christ through Faith. Dominion is God working through us.

capsium · 21/03/2014 08:22

I don't mean like the song of the same name though...Grin

bluepen · 21/03/2014 08:44

The bible says that Job was blameless.

capsium · 21/03/2014 09:40

Yes, it does. Satan wanted to test him, he claimed that Job only loved God because of what He did for Job, His blessings. But this was not true, God let Satan test Job because He knew Job would succeed and then He blessed him.

Very difficult for Job though but he did come through.

bluepen · 21/03/2014 10:01

God was protecting Job from the D by
prosperity
possessions
health
and his life

capsium · 21/03/2014 10:18

Although all appeared to be in jeopardy at the time of testing.

AMumInScotland · 21/03/2014 10:26

HeadInHands and atthestrokeoftwelve

I just felt I had to pop back on and congratulate you for attempting to have a sensible debate here. I've been popping back in to read from time to time, and have ended up too mind-boggled to even jump back in.

I suspect I would normally be arguing against you on religion threads, but in this case I can't begin to understand what makes certain Christians so illogical, or so blind to their lack of logic.

Well done for making the attempt!

capsium · 21/03/2014 10:27

In answer to your original question OP I believe that we come against Evil in this world. This tests our Faith. By Faith we access God's Grace and are able to overcome Evil.

So exercising Faith is important, however it can be exercised in different ways by different people. It is the exercising of Faith that is important, not so much how it is exercised, some people find it easier to exercise their Faith in different ways to each other - hence we get different ways of eating, worshipping, helping others, praying etc.

capsium · 21/03/2014 10:28

AMumInScotland Care to elaborate?

bluepen · 21/03/2014 10:34

A sort of Fight the Good Fight?

capsium · 21/03/2014 10:39

blue Yes, in terms of exercising our Faith.

bluepen · 21/03/2014 10:40

So we are helping God, and in turn are helped by God?

capsium · 21/03/2014 10:43

I believe we exercise our Faith (In God and what Christ has done for us), and do our good works, access God's Grace (His Power) and overcome Evil (which is for God - not against Him).

capsium · 21/03/2014 10:44

the overcoming^ is for God that is!
