Have nc for this but only becuase I am busy as it were on other threads.

I am having trouble getting my head around something.

I am a committed christian.

When things go wrong, and I am really just talking about very minor things that other people have done to you, how much of that has been orchestrated by God?
Any of it? None of it? Somewhere in between?

Thanks

as chemical not if. Typo.

atthestrokeoftwelve · 20/03/2014 20:00

I think that sounds very dangerous and misleading advice capsium.

bluepen · 20/03/2014 20:16

Would you like to be prayed for atthestrokeoftwelve?

capsium · 20/03/2014 20:19

What having Hope is dangerous? Believing God wants us well is dangerous? Believing Christianity can make a person happy and reduce stress in their lives, dangerous? Recognising the correlation between stress and illness? Dangerous?

Do you not see stress and worry or anxiety as a bad thing. Do you not see stress as adversely affecting health?

No where have I said anything which advices against consulting doctors or taking medicine.

Taking Hope away from people is dangerous IMO. Speaking Hopeful words should encourage Hope, not take it away.

capsium · 20/03/2014 20:24

I just recognise the positive benefits of Hope. Lots of medical professionals would not dispute this. Placebo effects are well documented.

capsium · 20/03/2014 20:26

Why do you think hospitals have Chapels?

atthestrokeoftwelve · 20/03/2014 20:32

It is dangerous to suggest that illness is caused by evils and can be cured by jesus. What if vulnerable people stop taking medications because they "have full faith"believe that god will heal them? It has been pointed out before that god chooses to allow some people to die. So by that thinking not all people can be healed by their faith.

atthestrokeoftwelve · 20/03/2014 20:33

bluepen what you do in your spare time is of no concern to me.

headinhands · 20/03/2014 20:43

So is it a case of mental illness is caused by spirits. But god heals through the NHS for the main? Is it just mental illness that is caused by evil spirits. What about physical?

capsium · 20/03/2014 20:47

atthestroke so you believe illness is good?

I did not advise anyone to stop taking medicine. I actually said my beliefs do not prohibit taking medicine or consulting doctors.

I just believe healing is possible. Once someone is healed they are well and a doctor could confirm this, when they visit.

capsium · 20/03/2014 20:51

head read through what I said. I believe there is a spiritual aspect to all things in life.

There is also a physical aspect to illness. I do not disagree with treating the physical aspect of illnesses. Usually the NHS can treat the physical aspect, but not always. For some illnesses there are no treatments available.

headinhands · 20/03/2014 20:57

So there are two aspects to every illness? How do you know when only one element has been dealt with? Does god just deal with the spiritual and drs the physical? Does it annoy god/satan that we can treat people with illness via medicine now?

bluepen · 20/03/2014 21:05

It is true that there are some people who basically get it wrong, and dont use medicines and doctors how they should.

capsium · 20/03/2014 21:06

head the spiritual can affect the physical. So God, who is spirit can affect the physical. However there can be inertia, to manifestation, delay. Unbelief can work against Faith. It is why positive encouraging words can be very good.

Why would God, who is good and wants us well, be against doctors using medicine to heal? A lot of hospitals were started by the Christian religious community.

bluepen · 20/03/2014 21:07

I think that the person asking the questions know the answers! Grin

capsium · 20/03/2014 21:08

But again, in human medical practice there can be corruption. Our history is testimony to this.

atthestrokeoftwelve · 20/03/2014 21:14

If I were ill I'd prefer the NHS to the church.

capsium · 20/03/2014 21:15

atthestroke I expect you would.

capsium · 20/03/2014 21:17

It doesn't have to be an either or though.

bluepen · 20/03/2014 21:18

I think that you would find that just about all christians would hurry to the NHS and pray along the way, thus having the benefit of both.

headinhands · 20/03/2014 21:49

So we would expect a distinct and dramatic divide between Christians and non Christians in terms of health that can't be explained by any other means?

headinhands · 20/03/2014 21:50

I they're got double the help no?

headinhands · 20/03/2014 21:53

Hmm, only I suspect that Christians in the third world aren't as well as Christians in UK. Like god keeps the level of intervention at a level that reflects the medical abilities of the region maybe?

bluepen · 20/03/2014 21:53

Not necessarily. Because they may get more health problems in the first place to "learn" things.
Or be born with more health things wrong.

bluepen · 20/03/2014 21:54

That was in response to your last but 1 question.
