A new Christian prayer thread for 2014

Welcome to our new prayer thread for 2014. This is a safe and supportive place of prayer, where regulars, occasional visitors and lurkers, committed Christians and those just dipping a toe into the water are all equally welcome. Come and leave a prayer, tell us what’s going on in your life, bring your worries, hopes, fears and joys to God, and know that you will be prayed for.

We pray, in particular, for...

... amberlight, for her work raising awareness of autism in churches, and for her to know love and acceptance wherever she goes;

... Badvoc and her family, as they grieve for her dad; prayers too for her aunt who is seriously ill; and prayers for a good recovery from her gallstones operation;

... BananasForTed, praying for her mental health and for her difficult work situation, and also praying that she was able to go back to her church and that she found support there;

... BlackEyedSusan, for all the many things which she has to juggle in her life as a single parent; in particular, we pray for her mum's health, and for both her DC to receive the support that they need at school;

... BlessedAssurance, when she feels challenged because of her faith at her place of work; also for her pregnancy and for her eye problems;

... BoxOfDelights, for her to find somewhere good to live and a job;

... bountyicecream, thanking God for her renewed happiness after leaving a very difficult and abusive relationship, and praying that she will continue to grow in happiness and strength in the future;

... CharlotteCollinsisinherownplace, giving thanks for her new home and new job;

... Don'tsteponthemomeraths, thanking God that an MRI has shown her brain to be normal, and for the continued progress of her niece, little Grace, born prematurely;

... DutchOma and Bob, for Bob's health to be as stable as possible and for him to receive good care in the hospice; also praying for him to see some glimpses of light in what is, admittedly, a very difficult situation, so that his outlook may be less 'catastrophic'; and praying for Oma that she may find rest and peace of mind and support at this time;

... Gingercurl, giving thanks for the successful completion of her thesis and praying for her viva to go well; also for Ginger’s MIL who has been diagnosed with cancer;

... HadALittleFaithBaby, for all bugs to leave to Faith household; also for her neighbour who has cancer and for his family;

... JugglingFromHereToThere, for a job which interests and fulfils her;

... Kaykat, giving thanks that she is now settled and happy in her new home with her DS, and praying for her DS to cope well with his new situation and not allow his dad to influence him in a negative way; also praying that she will find a welcoming church community in her new place;

... MadHairDay, thanking God for a Christmas spent at home with her family, and praying for continued health in 2014; praying too for health and love and friendship for MHD’s DD;

... NeverKnowinglyUnderstood, for her relationship with her DS and for support for them to understand his anger and frustration and find ways to avoid it if possible;

... niminypiminy, for happiness in her new home;

... octopusinastringbag, thinking of her as she feels drawn to explore faith in more depth;

... PandaG, for her mum's health;

... PositiveAttitude and her family; in particular, at this time, for DD3, praying for a happy end to her pregnancy with no complications; also praying for PA's parents’ health, for her DD1's finances, for her DS's anxiety, and for PA as she awaits the outcome of a job application and misses her DH and DD4;

... revivingshower, praying for her back pain to ease and thanking God for her family who've been supporting her during this tough time;

... RoomForALittleOne, for her DD3 to stay well and to sleep well too, so that Room can get enough rest;

... RunRunRuby, thanking God that she has come to our thread and praying that her faith may be strengthened;

... SESthebrave, for all that she has to juggle in her life, with work and DC;

... SunshinemMum, praying for her and her family as they look for a new spiritual home after leaving their previous church; may they find the place that is right for them, and may it welcome them with open arms;

... thegreenheartofmanyroundabouts, for a more peaceful time now to recover from the hecticness that is Christmas, and for her academic work;

... weegiemum, giving thanks for her own better health, but praying for her stepmum and for Kat, who are both seriously unwell and for all in the family affected by their illnesses;

We pray also for all regular and occasional visitors, and those we haven't seen for a while, including: Bluetinkerbell, cloutiedumpling, EasyCompadre, FairPhyllis, fluffieduckie, FriendOfDorothy, GoodbyeRubyTuesday, harbinger and her family, JakeBullet, jan and her DD, ktef, LollipopViolet, MaryBS, notquiteagrownup, PloddingDaily, Soozi, thehorridestmumintheworld, trish5000, youretoastmildred, and zulubump, and for anyone I've forgotten to name-check (don't take it personally, please!). And we pray for those who read and pray but don’t post, for those who need our prayers but are afraid or too uncertain to post them, and for all those known to us in our own lives who need God’s love.

May God bless us all in 2014.

Praying for the 3yo boy missing in Edinburgh.

Dutchoma · 16/01/2014 17:47

God speaks to Moses at the burning bush:
Take off your sandals for where you are standing is holy ground Ex 3:5

No safe distance
Take your shoes off – and see,
The wounds of your life
The fire of overexertion, tormenting silence
Fear, the discouragement of everyday life.

Take off your shoes - and be amazed
God id with you
God’s name remains fully secret
“I will be Whom I will be”
And yet God’s deepest secret is enclosed therein: “I will be there for you”

Here I stand God, here with bare feet
At the thornbush of my life
Let me hear your voice
Stamp you name on my heart Lord
So that I can at last believe
That you mean me, even me
When you promise
“I will be there for you”.

My sister-in-law sent me this picture of a thornbush with candles placed on the thorns. The above is rough translation form the German.
She found the card in a monastery in Walkenried, in the Harz. I think it is very lovely.

ZingSweetApple · 16/01/2014 17:55

BES
so sorry to hear.

DS2 hurt his hand today. only soft tissue damage, but he can't write - praying for quick recovery as he can not miss anymore work at school.

madhairday · 16/01/2014 18:22

Oh Oma, how very beautiful.

Dearest BES, I am so sorry to hear this. Prayers and love for you tonight.

Praying for you Badvoc.

Badvoc · 16/01/2014 18:30

I didn't get to communion after all.
My aunt had another fall last night :(
She is going into a hospice tomorrow. Please pray for her, and that she is reunited with my dad - her beloved brother - soon.
It's my appt at the hospital tomorrow afternoon which I am dreading (gastroscopy). Please pray that I remain calm and the results are good.
I am going to bed soon.
I am very tearful and I dont want the dc to see me like this.
Thank you all for your prayers.
I certainly need them x

NoRoomForALittleOne · 16/01/2014 19:43

Praying, BES and Badvoc.

DS had a temp of 40c at 5pm. It has come down enough with calpol and neurofen but he is sweating buckets Sad It's not even clear what is wrong or why he has a temp.

Dutchoma · 16/01/2014 20:04

Oh Badvoc, my dear. What time is the appointment?

Badvoc · 16/01/2014 20:13

It's at 2.15 Oma. I'm so touched you would think of me in the midst of your own trial x
Room...does your ds have any pain? Uti?

NoRoomForALittleOne · 16/01/2014 20:50

He says he has a sore neck. I'm praying he means sore throat. I keep checking on him...

Badvoc · 16/01/2014 20:54

Ok.
Can he out his chin to his chest without obvious pain?
Are his hands and feet icy?
Is his skin mottled anywhere (not a rash, mottled)?
Is he ok looking at bright lights?

Badvoc · 16/01/2014 20:55

....and a. Really obvious one I am sure you have checked but has he got any rash anywhere at all?

NoRoomForALittleOne · 16/01/2014 20:57

He is totally fine with all of that stuff, just sleepy (fell asleep in the sofa before tea time) and grumpy!

Badvoc · 16/01/2014 21:00

Poor thing.
If the pain meds are keeping the temp down that's good news.
My 2 get very high temps with tonsillitis. Hope it's not that.

NoRoomForALittleOne · 16/01/2014 21:27

I keep wondering about tonsillitis. We'll have to wait and see.

bountyicecream · 16/01/2014 21:41

Praying for everyone.

BlackeyedSusan · 16/01/2014 22:37

thanks for your praayers. I have liottle more infomtion frrom mum. she hs smll cncer and it is slow growing and they thought there is a very good chance of a good outcome. I have spent over to weeks worried sick nd today with non functioning bin nd wobbly legs (though that is more likely due to waalking to the garage. )

NorthernLurker · 16/01/2014 23:10

I was reminded of . Good song for hard times I think.

Dutchoma · 17/01/2014 09:02

Such beautiful words and such a boring tune. Am I alone in thinking that?

JugglingFromHereToThere · 17/01/2014 09:15

Thanks for that NorthernLurker, that got my day off to a good start. Really helped me to be thankful for things - like all the friends I've made in this town since I moved here 10 years ago with baby dd, knowing no-one. All my friends here too, I give thanks for you all Thanks
Regarding the slightly boring tune, it kind of worked for me - the repetition was good?

DidoTheDodo · 17/01/2014 09:29

Praying for everyone.

badvoc is it the gastroscopy that is worrying you so much? If so, I had one and was beside myself beforehand but it was genuinely ok. Do please PM me if I can be of any reassurance.

And special prayers for your Aunt, and for oma and for BES

Badvoc · 17/01/2014 10:05

BES...that sounds very positive.
Dido...I had one about 3 years ago so I am being an utter wimp about the whole thing. It's just been a hard time health wise recently. I had an op 7 weeks ago and then caught a chest infection post op so it's been rough. Am feeling like I have been through the mill physically a bit lately :(
Add to that the emotional and mental trauma and I feel like a used up dishrag tbh.
I will try and stay busy today til my appt - at least the house might get cleaner! :)

GingerCurl · 17/01/2014 10:07

Oma How are you today? You just gave me a good chuckle. The tune is somewhat predictable but I agree that the words are good.

I have a lot of boring admin to tackle today. It won't take me too long once I get started but getting my backside into gear is a right pain.

Praying.

NorthernLurker · 17/01/2014 10:40

I think Matt Redman is a bit like marmite tbh. He goes on a bit in some songs imo but I think in that one the tune is intended to be a fairly plain background to the words which are so strong. I know when I listen to it I really HEAR the words iyswim.
