A new Christian prayer thread for 2014

Welcome to our new prayer thread for 2014. This is a safe and supportive place of prayer, where regulars, occasional visitors and lurkers, committed Christians and those just dipping a toe into the water are all equally welcome. Come and leave a prayer, tell us what’s going on in your life, bring your worries, hopes, fears and joys to God, and know that you will be prayed for.

We pray, in particular, for...

... amberlight, for her work raising awareness of autism in churches, and for her to know love and acceptance wherever she goes;

... Badvoc and her family, as they grieve for her dad; prayers too for her aunt who is seriously ill; and prayers for a good recovery from her gallstones operation;

... BananasForTed, praying for her mental health and for her difficult work situation, and also praying that she was able to go back to her church and that she found support there;

... BlackEyedSusan, for all the many things which she has to juggle in her life as a single parent; in particular, we pray for her mum's health, and for both her DC to receive the support that they need at school;

... BlessedAssurance, when she feels challenged because of her faith at her place of work; also for her pregnancy and for her eye problems;

... BoxOfDelights, for her to find somewhere good to live and a job;

... bountyicecream, thanking God for her renewed happiness after leaving a very difficult and abusive relationship, and praying that she will continue to grow in happiness and strength in the future;

... CharlotteCollinsisinherownplace, giving thanks for her new home and new job;

... Don'tsteponthemomeraths, thanking God that an MRI has shown her brain to be normal, and for the continued progress of her niece, little Grace, born prematurely;

... DutchOma and Bob, for Bob's health to be as stable as possible and for him to receive good care in the hospice; also praying for him to see some glimpses of light in what is, admittedly, a very difficult situation, so that his outlook may be less 'catastrophic'; and praying for Oma that she may find rest and peace of mind and support at this time;

... Gingercurl, giving thanks for the successful completion of her thesis and praying for her viva to go well; also for Ginger’s MIL who has been diagnosed with cancer;

... HadALittleFaithBaby, for all bugs to leave to Faith household; also for her neighbour who has cancer and for his family;

... JugglingFromHereToThere, for a job which interests and fulfils her;

... Kaykat, giving thanks that she is now settled and happy in her new home with her DS, and praying for her DS to cope well with his new situation and not allow his dad to influence him in a negative way; also praying that she will find a welcoming church community in her new place;

... MadHairDay, thanking God for a Christmas spent at home with her family, and praying for continued health in 2014; praying too for health and love and friendship for MHD’s DD;

... NeverKnowinglyUnderstood, for her relationship with her DS and for support for them to understand his anger and frustration and find ways to avoid it if possible;

... niminypiminy, for happiness in her new home;

... octopusinastringbag, thinking of her as she feels drawn to explore faith in more depth;

... PandaG, for her mum's health;

... PositiveAttitude and her family; in particular, at this time, for DD3, praying for a happy end to her pregnancy with no complications; also praying for PA's parents’ health, for her DD1's finances, for her DS's anxiety, and for PA as she awaits the outcome of a job application and misses her DH and DD4;

... revivingshower, praying for her back pain to ease and thanking God for her family who've been supporting her during this tough time;

... RoomForALittleOne, for her DD3 to stay well and to sleep well too, so that Room can get enough rest;

... RunRunRuby, thanking God that she has come to our thread and praying that her faith may be strengthened;

... SESthebrave, for all that she has to juggle in her life, with work and DC;

... SunshinemMum, praying for her and her family as they look for a new spiritual home after leaving their previous church; may they find the place that is right for them, and may it welcome them with open arms;

... thegreenheartofmanyroundabouts, for a more peaceful time now to recover from the hecticness that is Christmas, and for her academic work;

... weegiemum, giving thanks for her own better health, but praying for her stepmum and for Kat, who are both seriously unwell and for all in the family affected by their illnesses;

We pray also for all regular and occasional visitors, and those we haven't seen for a while, including: Bluetinkerbell, cloutiedumpling, EasyCompadre, FairPhyllis, fluffieduckie, FriendOfDorothy, GoodbyeRubyTuesday, harbinger and her family, JakeBullet, jan and her DD, ktef, LollipopViolet, MaryBS, notquiteagrownup, PloddingDaily, Soozi, thehorridestmumintheworld, trish5000, youretoastmildred, and zulubump, and for anyone I've forgotten to name-check (don't take it personally, please!). And we pray for those who read and pray but don’t post, for those who need our prayers but are afraid or too uncertain to post them, and for all those known to us in our own lives who need God’s love.

May God bless us all in 2014.

Thanks to anyone who prayed for DS. His temp is staying at 38 and he is happy enough at the moment. I did have a moment of wondering if he was coming down with scarlet fever after another child with scarlet fever was brought into college the other day Hmm but he doesn't have the other symptoms.

While we're talking about Matt Redman, who else thinks that 10,000 Reasons has been destroyed through over playing and that it has become the 'Shine, Jesus, Shine' of the next generation?

BlackeyedSusan · 17/01/2014 13:48

I only heard it for the first time today. shine jesus shine makes me want to run from the building screaming though

Dutchoma · 17/01/2014 15:51

I heard 10.000 reasons for the first time today. Talking it over with a friend from church just now she said they called him 'one-note-Redman' and I said I called them ambulance tunes, you know, nino, nino. Which is an awful shame as the words are really good.

DontstepontheMomeRaths · 17/01/2014 17:37

I don't think it's over played. Well not at my church, which is ironic as I go to the church he began his career at and was worship leader at for a long time. I think he's very talented.

I guess it depends on a lot of factors though as to whether it's over played. Do you hear it at cell groups, book shops etc too?

ZingSweetApple · 18/01/2014 07:19

praying for all of you.

we are going to look at a house today.
prayers needed that if it is God's will and it is the right place for us to move to then things will work out as smoothly as possible.
we need all the help and prayers as we can get - moving is a big thing for anyone, but with a large family, being pg and waiting for school admissions results it's very complicated and nerve-wrecking.

I'd like to leave the worrying bit to God as all combined it is bigger than me or what I feel I can cope with.

I also pray that our baby is healthy and grows nice and strong and that the morning sickness will stop soon.

Happy Saturday everyone!

Dutchoma · 18/01/2014 07:42

Praying Zing How old are the children?

niminypiminy · 18/01/2014 08:53

Praying for everyone who posts here, and all those whose needs are known only to themselves and to God.

Oma, how are you?

ZingSweetApple · 18/01/2014 09:15

Oma

the worst wait is till 1st March when we'll find out whether DS5 (almost 4) got in our chosen infant's.
if we move, we'll be out of that catchment area - he could go to the more local one in Sept, but then the junior school for DS3 & DS4 (aged 9 & 7) will be too far to get them all to school on time.

DS2 will be going to secondary in Sept, so he and DS1 can catch the free school bus - that's not a problem (they will be 13 & 11 in the summer).

it's the 3 in the middle.
I honestly try not to think about it - I started & finishing about 8 different patchwork/quilting projects just to keep me distracted!Grin

How are you? did the op go ok?

Dutchoma · 18/01/2014 09:15

I'm alright. Really. Fragile, but having a lot of support, sometimes from very unexpected quarters. Things for next week are coming together, my cold is on the way out and I am sleeping a bit better.

Dutchoma · 18/01/2014 09:17

My eye is alos better than the other one was at that stage: 3 days post op.

Kaykat · 18/01/2014 09:37

Zing you have five DSs i feel tired just reading that you are superwoman. Praying it works out with the house and the schools.

Glad the op seems to have gone well Oma continuing to pray for you. It can be surprising to find out who is there for you in difficult tines i noticed that too.

Prayers for your mum BES and continued stength for you.

Praying as i read through for everyone and thinking of those with health problems, badvoc,mhd,rooms dc.

Thanking God for my new home which is making me so happy and that ds is also happy and settled and i have had very few problems with him recently he is a delight most of the time and for a teenager that's pretty good.

BlackeyedSusan · 18/01/2014 09:50

Dutchoma · 18/01/2014 10:43

BlackeyedSusan · 18/01/2014 13:58

ZingSweetApple · 18/01/2014 15:49

we put in an offer for the house.

Shock

I really think it would be perfect - I can only hope it's meant to be.
Please God, help us, make it happen.Smile

praying for all of you, BES big hugs as well

DidoTheDodo · 18/01/2014 17:14

zing that's really exciting. Praying that it works out for you the way it is meant to be.

Continued prayers for oma and BES and everyone else in need.

Went to church band practice yesterday and for the first time I noticed one of the numbers we do is by Beth and Matt Redman. You've opened my eyes!

amberlight · 18/01/2014 17:19

Praying through....

madhairday · 18/01/2014 17:22

I like Matt Redman in general though do find some of the songs a bit tedious. Love 10,000 reasons though, I think it's one of the best songs of recent years, beautiful with thousands singing it together...I also think Redman is a bit guilty of writing songs out of range of the average person - so much too high, or too large a range, so unsingable by congregations. Stuart Townend is probably the best for not doing that and for writing songs singable by all :)

Prayers the house goes through, zing!

Praying for BES and Badvoc, and of course our lovely Oma.

Dutchoma · 18/01/2014 18:08

And now you lovely lot have also sent me a voucher for my favourite delicatessen shop. Very clever of you all to know and great team work. It is just wonderful. Thank you so much.

Weegiemum · 18/01/2014 18:20

Popped in to see how Oma is doing xxx

I'm managing a Fri-Tues stretch with no dh as he's on call, dd2 was off school yesterday vomiting then I was up all night vomiting myself. Sadly, bugs really wipe my neurology out and I'm very dizzy and have no feeling in my legs at all. I'm in hospital for treatment on Thursday anyway.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 18/01/2014 19:02

Thinking of you weegie x

DontstepontheMomeRaths · 18/01/2014 19:14

That's funny MHD I can always sing Matt's songs and have a rubbish range are you sure your worship leader hasn't switched keys and made it difficult for the congregation?

I sound bias now don't I? Brainwashed by years at my Church Wink

I love Chris Tomlin and Phil Wickham and like some Hillsongs. I never like every song on an album for any musician but I have favourites.

So glad Oma to hear you're being treated.

Kaykat that sounds great.

Praying Weegie x

CharlotteCollinsinherownplace · 18/01/2014 19:42

So glad Oma to hear you're being treated - I second that!

Praying, Weegie.

I have been at church this afternoon, to ask questions of a prospective new minister. I've come away feeling emotionally drained and I'm not quite sure. I think it's a combination of feeling on the edge of things at church - I don't feel like I belong, really, although it may be slowly improving now that I'm not with STBXH and have time and energy to make friendships. It does take me years to feel settled anywhere! - and feeling vulnerable because I don't know what people at church think of me, or what a new pastor would think, but I know that STBXH and his parents think that divorce is never an option and is bad for the gospel, because STBXH told me that in an email this morning. So I'm probably still sensitive about that.

I do keep wondering if I can justify my decision to leave my marriage. I'm so much happier, I could never go back, but I'm starting to wonder if it was a problem in me that it failed. I don't have the emotional energy to think it all through again, though, to try to remember why I left.

And I still hate not being with the DCs, so this weekend is tough already from that perspective. I mean, I enjoy the time to myself, but it still feels unnatural.

Bleurgh. That's me today! I shall buck up and be more positive tomorrow, I'm sure.

ALittleFaith · 18/01/2014 20:18

Oh Charlotte :( I can't imagine how tough it is but you clearly gave everything you could to your marriage. Staying because divorce is bad for the gospel is great in theory but I don't believe that God wants you to spend the rest of your life miserable. I don't ever feel truly settled in church. I've just kind of accepted that's how it is but keep pushing through. (This was heightened by the fact that only two people from our church sent cards when Faithlet was born).

I'm glad you feel well supported Oma. Continuing to pray.

I'm getting there at work. Had a much better shift today. I've got my first night shift tomorrow so prayer that it's ok would be good! They've increased the number of staff on shift which makes a huge difference.
