Welcome to our new prayer thread for 2014. This is a safe and supportive place of prayer, where regulars, occasional visitors and lurkers, committed Christians and those just dipping a toe into the water are all equally welcome. Come and leave a prayer, tell us what’s going on in your life, bring your worries, hopes, fears and joys to God, and know that you will be prayed for.

We pray, in particular, for...

... amberlight, for her work raising awareness of autism in churches, and for her to know love and acceptance wherever she goes;

... Badvoc and her family, as they grieve for her dad; prayers too for her aunt who is seriously ill; and prayers for a good recovery from her gallstones operation;

... BananasForTed, praying for her mental health and for her difficult work situation, and also praying that she was able to go back to her church and that she found support there;

... BlackEyedSusan, for all the many things which she has to juggle in her life as a single parent; in particular, we pray for her mum's health, and for both her DC to receive the support that they need at school;

... BlessedAssurance, when she feels challenged because of her faith at her place of work; also for her pregnancy and for her eye problems;

... BoxOfDelights, for her to find somewhere good to live and a job;

... bountyicecream, thanking God for her renewed happiness after leaving a very difficult and abusive relationship, and praying that she will continue to grow in happiness and strength in the future;

... CharlotteCollinsisinherownplace, giving thanks for her new home and new job;

... Don'tsteponthemomeraths, thanking God that an MRI has shown her brain to be normal, and for the continued progress of her niece, little Grace, born prematurely;

... DutchOma and Bob, for Bob's health to be as stable as possible and for him to receive good care in the hospice; also praying for him to see some glimpses of light in what is, admittedly, a very difficult situation, so that his outlook may be less 'catastrophic'; and praying for Oma that she may find rest and peace of mind and support at this time;

... Gingercurl, giving thanks for the successful completion of her thesis and praying for her viva to go well; also for Ginger’s MIL who has been diagnosed with cancer;

... HadALittleFaithBaby, for all bugs to leave to Faith household; also for her neighbour who has cancer and for his family;

... JugglingFromHereToThere, for a job which interests and fulfils her;

... Kaykat, giving thanks that she is now settled and happy in her new home with her DS, and praying for her DS to cope well with his new situation and not allow his dad to influence him in a negative way; also praying that she will find a welcoming church community in her new place;

... MadHairDay, thanking God for a Christmas spent at home with her family, and praying for continued health in 2014; praying too for health and love and friendship for MHD’s DD;

... NeverKnowinglyUnderstood, for her relationship with her DS and for support for them to understand his anger and frustration and find ways to avoid it if possible;

... niminypiminy, for happiness in her new home;

... octopusinastringbag, thinking of her as she feels drawn to explore faith in more depth;

... PandaG, for her mum's health;

... PositiveAttitude and her family; in particular, at this time, for DD3, praying for a happy end to her pregnancy with no complications; also praying for PA's parents’ health, for her DD1's finances, for her DS's anxiety, and for PA as she awaits the outcome of a job application and misses her DH and DD4;

... revivingshower, praying for her back pain to ease and thanking God for her family who've been supporting her during this tough time;

... RoomForALittleOne, for her DD3 to stay well and to sleep well too, so that Room can get enough rest;

... RunRunRuby, thanking God that she has come to our thread and praying that her faith may be strengthened;

... SESthebrave, for all that she has to juggle in her life, with work and DC;

... SunshinemMum, praying for her and her family as they look for a new spiritual home after leaving their previous church; may they find the place that is right for them, and may it welcome them with open arms;

... thegreenheartofmanyroundabouts, for a more peaceful time now to recover from the hecticness that is Christmas, and for her academic work;

... weegiemum, giving thanks for her own better health, but praying for her stepmum and for Kat, who are both seriously unwell and for all in the family affected by their illnesses;

We pray also for all regular and occasional visitors, and those we haven't seen for a while, including: Bluetinkerbell, cloutiedumpling, EasyCompadre, FairPhyllis, fluffieduckie, FriendOfDorothy, GoodbyeRubyTuesday, harbinger and her family, JakeBullet, jan and her DD, ktef, LollipopViolet, MaryBS, notquiteagrownup, PloddingDaily, Soozi, thehorridestmumintheworld, trish5000, youretoastmildred, and zulubump, and for anyone I've forgotten to name-check (don't take it personally, please!). And we pray for those who read and pray but don’t post, for those who need our prayers but are afraid or too uncertain to post them, and for all those known to us in our own lives who need God’s love.

May God bless us all in 2014.

Thank you for all the congrats...and abundance of flowers! Smile I am feeling a little more human again today after sleeping for 13 hours solidly last night. I have just collected DD1 from the boat and DD2's boat gets in at 8, so house full for the week.....then DD3, SonIL and baby and dog move in next Friday (28th) so I am expecting a manic month or two ahead.

Good news Zing prayers that it all goes smoothly now for you.

ALittleFaith · 18/02/2014 08:38

Morning all! I dropped off. I'm finding it harder to keep up with MN since going back to work.

PA congratulations! Wonderful news. Welcome to the world baby Aston!

Zing that's great news. Praying the process goes smoothly.

bes praying for you - that half term is enjoyable and you get some rest from the routine. Also praying for your Mum's health.

Dutchoma · 18/02/2014 09:15

I have had an urgent prayer request from a friend (recently baptised at the church) who is serving in South Sudan. She had to come home over Christmas but went straight back as it seemed to be safe enough. Now her parents have a call saying that she is holed up in a bunker surrounded by gun fire. Call was cut short.

BlessedAssurance · 18/02/2014 11:37

Praying for the safety of your friend oma.
PA what great news!!! Welcome to planet earth little AstonThanks.
Zing congratulations on finding a buyer for your house..
Praying through as i read.

BlessedAssurance · 18/02/2014 11:44

Faith keeping up with Mn can be hard, even if you are home like me.

It's not always the case that one have the time to log on and read all the posts then have something useful to say. I never have anything worthwhile to say and when i read some well formed and beautiful thoughts or words of encouragement, i end up not wanting to post anymore. Then i tell myself that this place is packed with lovely,non judgemental christians and i relax. Sorry went right off topic there...

ZingSweetApple · 18/02/2014 15:31

saw consultat today about DS2's tonsillectomy - 18 weeks waiting list!Shock

I almost cried, I though it would be in a few weeks tops,given how frequently he's had it...and I don't want him to get ill anymore and get stuffed with more antibiotics and miss even more school!
he'll have to miss 2 weeks school after surgery, but he will have SATs - why is it so complicated?

(never mind that I will be ready to give birth by then!)

she said she'd put on his notes that it's urgent so he should be fast tracked plus we can call in a few weeks time if there are any cancellations.

so as always, back to basics: trying to not worry but trusting God He will come up with the best solution and perfect timing.

I'm too wrung out to do a detailed praying so will light a candle for all of you - I like to think that as long as the candle is burning the prayers are being presented!Smile

amberlight · 18/02/2014 21:20

Praying....

Stridence · 19/02/2014 00:32

Hello everyone. I came to you in June last year to ask for prayer as I was flying abroad for donor egg IVF and had some misgivings about the ethics of it all and how God would view my involving science in my quest for a baby. You all responded very lovingly and I am delighted to tell you that the IVF worked first time and I am 38 weeks pregnant. I should've come back long ago to thank you but after a previous miscarriage I waited and waited and waited...

I prayed for this baby for so long and spent so much time on my knees wailing to the Lord for him to give me a child. I will never forget God's grace and mercy in hearing my prayers (and yours!) and giving me this unbelievable gift. Thank you once again, from the bottom of my heart, for your prayers last year. I have popped in many times and prayed for you all, too.. Thanks

Bluetinkerbell · 19/02/2014 06:58

Prayers for all
Congratulations Stridence wishing you a smooth delivery and enjoy those first baby cuddles. Before you know it you'll have to run after a toddler Wink

Dutchoma · 19/02/2014 07:45

So very pleased you have come back to give thanks to God and to update us.
I very well know the despair of wanting a baby so much, although I did not have to go to the length of having IVF. So glad it worked for you. Not long to go now. Prayers for a safe delivery.

Badvoc · 19/02/2014 07:51

Zing...phone the dr secretary. Ime they are usually very helpful in these situations and they sort the lists out so do make your situation known to them and make it clear you will accept last minute cancellation etc.
Do hope it happens soon for him, poor thing.
My aunt is going into the hospice today. Please pray for a peaceful end for her, and for strength for us all.
Please also pray for my friend L who is in hospital waiting the birth of a longed for child. She is only 30 weeks. Please pray she lasts a while longer til delivery.
Thank you x

Kaykat · 19/02/2014 09:07

Had no internet for two weeks so I have just caught up with everyones news. Congratulations PA.

I am struggling with anxiety over a few things. I am worried that my housing benefit may get withdrawn because the council asking lots of questions about the house that I own. I have already cut down in every way possible there is no way I can manage without it. I am scared they will force me to return to live with abusive ex.

Also anxious about divorce I am doubting it will ever get sorted. My ex has everything I have nothing he doesn't give me a penny he is so clever at manipulating the legal system. Im sorry to say that i am feeling very negative and not at all at peace.

Dutchoma · 19/02/2014 09:54

Oh Kay, I am so sorry to hear that. When you didn't post for a bit I thought that all was going along nicely, so sorry to hear of all your anxieties. Is their any benefit in contacting Women's Aid who will know all about getting abusive husbands to honour their obligations? They will have legal advice.

BlessedAssurance · 19/02/2014 10:17

kaykat there is no legal system that God can't penetrate nomattter how tight. Give it all to Him and He is able to do far more that you could ever hope or ask for. I know it is hard right now but keep trusting Him. You will get your breakthrough in due course.
Badvoc praying for your friend. I am 35 weeks and i feel anxious sometimes even if i am healthy and all is well with the baby. Praying that the baby will stay a bit longer in her mummy's tummy.
Stidence Amen and Amen. Congratulations fellow pregnant womanThanks. May the rest of your time pregnant continue to be pleasant and may it be well with the delivery.

Stridence · 19/02/2014 10:26

Thank you, kind ladies.

Kaykat, please ring turn2us.org.uk who are a charity and will try and deal with any financial anxiety. They helped me a lot.

madhairday · 19/02/2014 16:10

Congratulations Stridence, great to hear how you're getting on.

Praying Zing for peace and healing.

Kaykat I'm sad to hear things are difficult. Praying that this seemingly unsurmountable situation will be sorted out for the best and soon. Praying for peace in the midst of it all.

Oma praying for your friend :( any news?

My dh is off to the DRC tomorrow...a bit worried. I am on third course of antibiotics, though feel a lot better and have been busy and coping so that is good. Hopefully all will be well. Please can you pray for his safety...we feel really under attack about the whole trip for some reason.

Kaykat · 19/02/2014 16:25

Thank you. I have a womans aid support worker who I speak to regularly. She reports similar problems from her other ladies both legal and with housing benefit.

Thanks Stridence, not heard of that charity, I will look it up I'm ok financially at the moment its nore anxiety for the future because my rent and bills are more than my earnings and I dread the alternative to my lovely little rented peaceful house.

Blessed thank you that's the second time today your posts brought tears to my eyes. I had a very clear message a few months ago that god would give me justice and I know he keeps his promises.

DidoTheDodo · 19/02/2014 21:06

After laptop breakage I now have a tablet so am returning to let you all know that so far, my DD's baby is growing well. She's 24 weeks now and we almost dare to feel hopeful. Thank you for your prayers - and may I ask for their continuance?

Love and prayers to all those who need them tonight.

DontstepontheMomeRaths · 20/02/2014 08:28

Praying kaykat x

madhairday · 20/02/2014 11:18

Praying Dido - that is good news.

Continuing to pray, Kaykat. May you know God's peace today and presence with you. 'The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms.'
