Right I am going to bite. I shouldnt have looked at the facebook but I did.

Mr Ruggles you have made some horrible accusations. You have claimed everyone who disagreed with you was an atheist who lacked logic and reasoning. You were wrong on ALL counts. Many people told you they were Christian or Theists, they just didn't agree with you. The thread was also full of valid scientific arguments which were well worded and full of logic and reasoning.

You have also accused us all of being bullies. Something I saw no evidence of. Not agreeing with someone is not bullying.

So please do feel free to justify your off board comments here as speaking behind peoples backs is really not on.

Please could someone link to the old thread. Thanks

well thats good Best cos then maybe christians will stop banging on about homosexuality cos my rusty memory doesnt have Yeshua saying anything about it. Paul did but he wasnt Yeshua was he.

Anyway, its been interesting but we're off to hospital for a few weeks so I wont get much time online as the walls appear to have been built of some substance impenetrable to internet signals. Maybe the hospital Chaplain (and why are they always christian? Where's the other faiths?) can explain to me why children die or get brain damaged? according to his god.

Pedro Well I'm patient, as God is. Are you actively seeking God?

I'm trying to understand your position. You tell me I can only understand through god telling me.

the 10 commandments - which are for everyone and make us aware we are sinners and need a Saviour.

How do they do that???

Report
daftdame · 11/05/2013 21:05

Pedro but only you can hear what God is telling you.

Not me, re. you unfortunately. I can tell you this, God's voice for me, was a thought just popping in to my head (that lined up with the Bible).

What tells me I need to be saved and what from? The commandments themselves certainly don't tell me that.

Pedro Need more info to comment really... Do you think you have not broken any of the commandments? Don't you care if you have? Do you disagree with what the commandments stand for?

Do you want me to respond?

The saved, is saved from sin and damnation.

The commandments don't suggest that you would need to be saved if you break the rules. They are just a set of rules, which I don't necessarily agree with anyway.

Pedro Well you can concentrate on your walk with God through Jesus Christ if you like. The commandments meant a lot to people who were concerned with the Law.

But as I have said there is the option you can choose of having the Holy Ghost write the Laws upon your heart ( so you want to comply). These Laws don't really conflict with the commandments though, they are about how to love people.

I'm a newbie (been lurking on MN for a while) and a bit nervous about actually posting tbh, but this is the first time I've felt I really want to give my opinion/experience FWIW (see, I've been lurking so long, I know the acronyms!)

I am a Christian, but some of my beliefs would probably be labelled as heretical. One of these being the concept of being 'saved' and what that means. You see, I believe Jesus when he says:

"And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself." John 12:32

I believe that ALL people...not just the chosen ones, or rather the ones that are wise enough to choose Him...every single human being that has been made in the image of God and that is loved utterly and completely by Him, will be saved. Saved from what? From the consequences of sin and how that separates us from God and prevents us from 'entering the heavenly realms' and communing with God as He intended. I do not believe that being 'saved' is a one-off occurence that takes place at our conversion because we have said the right prayer. I rather think it is an ongoing and often very difficult process that every person must go through to become more like Christ and be all that God intended you to be. Receiving Jesus as your Saviour is the vital first step, but surrendering your life to Him completely is an ongoing battle (at least it is for me). It is a battle worth fighting though, because at the end of it comes true spiritual freedom and we can finally enter His rest. I'm so sorry if this just sounds like a lot of spiritual waffle...I really do struggle with collecting my thoughts and putting them in writing. If you start debating with me, I will probably fail abysmally but I will do my best to put my point across!

I suppose what I'm trying to say is that I believe the Good News is just that....GOOD news! I do not preach a gospel of fear (accept Jesus or you will go to hell/eternal nothingness etc) but a gospel of love. God sent Jesus to be the eternal sacrifice for us...once for all. He said on that cross that "It is finished" and He meant it. As Christians, we don't HAVE to say sorry every time we sin (I think someone further up the thread implied this?) otherwise we are just going back to earning his forgiveness by works...Jesus ended all that. However, when we do sin (which of course we will) then if we are truly living with Jesus at the centre of our lives, we will naturally go to God in repentance and thank him for dealing with it all those years ago, and ask Him to help us to change etc. Many, many believers don't actually have Jesus at the centre of their lives though so this doesn't happen consistently and they continue to live as a 'slave to sin', moving no further down that narrow path to full salvation and remaining with the yoke around their neck. Hence why so many Christians give Christianity a 'bad name'...they profess the name of Jesus but are beset in their sins by refusing to lay their life down at the cross. I would put myself in this category btw...I'm working on it!

I will probably now get slated by Christians and non-Christians alike..
