Right I am going to bite. I shouldnt have looked at the facebook but I did.

Mr Ruggles you have made some horrible accusations. You have claimed everyone who disagreed with you was an atheist who lacked logic and reasoning. You were wrong on ALL counts. Many people told you they were Christian or Theists, they just didn't agree with you. The thread was also full of valid scientific arguments which were well worded and full of logic and reasoning.

You have also accused us all of being bullies. Something I saw no evidence of. Not agreeing with someone is not bullying.

So please do feel free to justify your off board comments here as speaking behind peoples backs is really not on.

Please could someone link to the old thread. Thanks

Now remember the comparison with Quantum Physics, it takes an awful lot to be able to understand that. You would not expect understanding to happen overnight here.

Yes, but I can start learning straight away with QP. Whereas with God, it seems I have to ask and then wait for an indeterminate period and not even know what I'm waiting for... . Sounds very suspicious to me.

Pedro I can appreciate some of your frustration. But you must have built up quite a foundation in Scientific thinking to understand texts immediately on reading.

Now with me I felt my eyes were opened upon salvation in that I could understand immediately a lot of texts that were previously closed to me (apart from the big numbers as stated previously). I think I'm almost mediaeval now in some of my thinking but all is exciting. It's just a new (if not previously experienced) way of thinking - counter cultural if you like.

You don't need to have strong foundation. There are many, very accessible books on even quite complex scientific concepts. But what you're telling me is that I have to wait until god let's me know I can start to understand. Can you not see how that's very, very strange?

So it's salvation I need first?

Pedro I'm not actually sure it was immediate, probably an over dramatisation on my part, my enlightenment, was distinct though, before and after.

I used to struggle, writer's block, thinkers block etc. Could hardly string a sentence together sometimes, just too many ideas in the ol' head. Now I'm a lot more focussed. (Although I think Mumsnet is my husband's salvation to some extent Grin, doesn't have the unwieldy long conversations!)

Pedro Well you probably know I would say yes to that one Grin.

Pedro You know I can only speak from personal experience. I'm telling you how it was for me.

It was strange but beautiful!

Do you believe Jesus was God and died for us on the cross and then rose again? Do you believe you can be redeemed through Him?

If the answer is yes, you know. Wink

daftdame I didn't expect you to have a real answer. You didn't write all that stuff and it's not your fault that it says all those things. I don't believe for one moment that you personally would act like the Abrahamic god. Unfortunately every bit of preaching that the behaviour of god is acceptable is going to encourage more people to believe he was right and to act accordingly.

People sometimes ask me why I object to religion. Let's see... an organisation that encourages by any means the worship and emulation of a brutal psychopath (He is imaginary but still can be a role model). That insists on pushing it on even the children of non-believers. What could be wrong with that?

Report
daftdame · 11/05/2013 19:21

BackOnlyBriefly God is not a psychopath. If I did not know how important it was to be slow to be offended, well...

BackOnlyBriefly I can do my best to answer your questions but I am, admittedly, still quite young in the faith. Don't really qualify to give you comprehensive Bible Study.

No. I thought that's what this revelation I'm waiting for was supposed to show me.... Confused

I'm not going to keep at at you about it - like I said you didn't invent it, but it's the christian bible that says so.

What a great, great shame. This was a good, interesting thread. It's now infested with ranting about Satan, "revelation" and attempts at "saving" people.

Religion poisons everything? Yes, indeed.

I haven't caught up on the thread but from what I've seen, I admire what Daft is doing. She is getting Pedro to think on a different level than before. Something I was unable to do.

Some things - like love and God - don't deny logic; they surpass it. I was wrong before when I said logic is everything. Love is everything. God is an expression of both.

"what intrigued me the other day about christianity, was some quote from Matthew where Yeshua says something along the lines that he didnt come to change the law ond it remains in place until the end of time, yet Christians ignore all of Torah law except the bits they cherry pick.
Bet you're al wearing two types of cloth"

Infamous, Jesus was referring to the moral law - the 10 commandments - which are for everyone and make us aware we are sinners and need a Saviour.

That's different from the ceremonial law - over 600 rules for the Jews only to make them a distinct nation and help to carry out God's plan. It passed away after Christ's resurrection. That's why Paul said there is no more Jew or Gentile, male or female etc. That's a big thing people don't understand and it leads to a lot of confusion.

Ellie, how can you resent daftdame's attempts to answer questions on here? Can't you see she loves God and wants to talk about Him and His love? You have demonstrated your hatred for what Christians believe already. We know it leaves a bad taste in your mouth, but that is how the world responds to the Truth that is Jesus. Your rejection of all that is good is nothing new. Christ loves you and wants you to turn to Him. I am praying for everyone on here.
