Right I am going to bite. I shouldnt have looked at the facebook but I did.

Mr Ruggles you have made some horrible accusations. You have claimed everyone who disagreed with you was an atheist who lacked logic and reasoning. You were wrong on ALL counts. Many people told you they were Christian or Theists, they just didn't agree with you. The thread was also full of valid scientific arguments which were well worded and full of logic and reasoning.

You have also accused us all of being bullies. Something I saw no evidence of. Not agreeing with someone is not bullying.

So please do feel free to justify your off board comments here as speaking behind peoples backs is really not on.

Please could someone link to the old thread. Thanks

Please don't try to compare the writings in the bible with scientific theory - which is testable and observable - they are nothing alike.

daftdame · 10/05/2013 21:07

Pedro He existed physically (as Jesus, in The Bible) and spiritually (Jesus, God and the Holy Ghost).

Like your theory, exists physically written on paper and in thought (spiritually as in Zeitgeist).

PedroYoniLikesCrisps · 10/05/2013 21:08

Pedro - God is written about in The Bible He exists.

You still don't understand. The analogy to what I'm saying in this case is that the bible is real. Not its content.

Jewcy · 10/05/2013 21:09

I know nothing about quantum physics Sad

But I reserve the right to believe that those who do are nerds Grin

PedroYoniLikesCrisps · 10/05/2013 21:09

Pedro He existed physically (as Jesus, in The Bible) and spiritually (Jesus, God and the Holy Ghost).

And you have some evidence I presume?

PedroYoniLikesCrisps · 10/05/2013 21:10

Don't worry Jewcy, anyone who says they understand Quantum Physics doesn't understand Quantum Physics.

Jewcy · 10/05/2013 21:12

Jewcy, why do you insist on suggesting that because someone says something exists in religion that it must not exist outside it? You have a real problem with understanding.

I'm sorry if that is what I am insisting, but I don't know if I am because I don't understand what you have just said. Please can you rephrase it?

daftdame · 10/05/2013 21:14

To test, lets call them theories, of The Bible, you have faith in the existing theory, and try it out in your life. Observe to see if your understanding was correct. If not you study the 'theory' more to see if you missed something.

Do all this responsibly, as with science. Seems very similar to me.

Jewcy · 10/05/2013 21:14

..I did say when I joined the thread that I'm not brilliant at critical thinking. Please be patient, I do want to understand where my ideas or the things I say are nonsense.

Jewcy · 10/05/2013 21:16

Incidentally, Bush and Blair, both Christians. Just sayin'

Sorry, I don't believe you. Or them.

daftdame · 10/05/2013 21:17

Pedro Re. QP, could say something very similar about understanding God.

Jewcy · 10/05/2013 21:17

Great...... How many female popes have there been again?

None. But you'll have to take that up with them there Catholics.

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 10/05/2013 21:18

Oh jewcy, I don't like Bush or Blair either - but they are most definitely christians (Blair's catholic I believe).

daftdame · 10/05/2013 21:18

Pedro The Bible is it's contents.

PedroYoniLikesCrisps · 10/05/2013 21:19

Ok, so when someone says that people with imaginary friends who are shitheads often become shitheads themselves, they are not saying that you only get shitheads from religion. Nor are they saying that there aren't any shitheads outside of religious belief.

Similarly, when I say that you can't suggest that the bible is all true just because some of it is true, I'm not saying that it's all false because some of it is false.

PedroYoniLikesCrisps · 10/05/2013 21:20

Sorry, I don't believe you. Or them.

Well you don't have to believe me.... But they are.... Strange thing to contest though.

PedroYoniLikesCrisps · 10/05/2013 21:21

Pedro Re. QP, could say something very similar about understanding God.

Go on.....

Jewcy · 10/05/2013 21:23

You make a lot of assumptions about me. What, prey tell, might I have not thought made sense?

Okay, I guess I was being presumptuous. Sorry. What about if your daughter, say, comes to you when she is an adult with a black eye from her husband who she then refuses to leave because she loves him? Her reactions to having been beaten may not make sense, but you would, perhaps, have to eventually accept them in one way or another.

PedroYoniLikesCrisps · 10/05/2013 21:25

Pedro The Bible is it's contents.

Oh for Christ's sake, why is this so hard?

Yes, the book is real, the words are real, but that says nothing of the truth of what it says.

Perhaps an example. I have a piece of paper, I write on it "water tastes like strawberries". The paper exists, the ink exists, the words exist, but the fact which the words claim are different and the fact that the paper and the ink and the words exist say nothing of the truth of the words which are written.

daftdame · 10/05/2013 21:25

Pedro re. evidence:

The Bible, physically exists, easy look in a church or bookshop.

Jesus, physically existed, historical evidence eg Josephus

Jesus, God and the Holy Ghost, spiritually exist one piece of evidence is that they are in the collective thoughts of Christians.

daftdame · 10/05/2013 21:26

Pedro to the taster the water may have tasted like strawberries. In that way it is true.

PedroYoniLikesCrisps · 10/05/2013 21:28

Ok, we'll that's certainly not a situation I've had to deal with, so wouldn't be an example of something I didn't understand. But having been in an abusive relationship myself, I understand how that works.

Jewcy · 10/05/2013 21:29

I'm always slightly sad when a woman says she isnt a feminist
Without feminism you'd not have the vote, rape in marriage would be legal, you'd not be able to sign a cheque, own property, have equal rights in employment, maternity leave....the list goes on. History shows us what life was like for women under the Christian Church in this country.

I don't vote, have never been raped (although, as an ex-prostitute I'm sure you would disagree, what with sex as a financial transaction being inherently non-consensual and all that), don't care about cheques, don't own property, have never enjoyed equal rights in any of my employments, have never had a baby. Except for the rape and the baby, all of the above has been denied me by virtue of class, not an absence of feminism.

daftdame · 10/05/2013 21:29

Pedro Christ exists in your thoughts too, you have asked Him why this is so hard.

Jewcy · 10/05/2013 21:31

...or indeed from an 'oppressive' Christian Church.
