Islam - is anyone interested in it? No preaching, just asking...

PasseBlanc · 10/06/2012 21:37

Just wondering if anyone here is or has ever been interested in coming to Islam, despite all the bad press/media hype etc?

I'm not here to quote and preach, I just want to maybe answer a few questions from my own perspective as a convert/revert muslim and give a bit of evidence.

Your thoughts/opinions/questions welcome

' if you can't understand the amazing compilations given by revelation ...'

I can't understand this sentence. What is a compilation ?

PasseBlanc · 10/06/2012 23:21

only42night - when you see something as the truth and follow it, may i ask, why should you have to see anything else as truth? You dont have to. You just have to simply respect and treat people well., that is all.

compilation - as in the many texts that were written down from the revelations and compiled.

there are many things that are not mentioned in the koran, circumcision, full covering of the face, fgm but these are practised by many muslims (male circumcision by all).

sadly many woman is the islamic world are unable to read (and so are many men) they will be able to recite the koran, but mullahs translating the hadith which is where the differences in practise usually come from as teh interpretation will have a cultural influence

islam is nto just abotu what is written in the koran

HelloCheeky · 10/06/2012 23:28

Ok, I understand the science you are quoting from the Quran perfectly. What I don't understand is why reading about pregnancy means that Islam is a true religion. It means that at the time the Quran was 'revealed' people already knew a lot about the natural world. They knew more than later 'discoveries' would lead us to believe.

CoteDAzur · 10/06/2012 23:29

Oh please PasseBlanc. You are clutching at straws Grin

I'm sorry that you are a recent convert and so are not aware of things that happened twenty years ago but I wish you would at the very least use your Googling skills to find out the facts before you stick your fingers in your ears and shout "LA LA LA LA LA LA!" Smile

Meanwhile, I had forgotten about this but he was also found to be blackmailing famous people with sex tapes. Oh, all very interesting, but you just need to research a bit better, you know.

Here is some information you might find interesting. Enjoy!

PasseBlanc · 10/06/2012 23:31

I never said that just pregnancy being mentioned in Qur'an means it is a true religion. That was one of many quotes I've given this evening. I have already explained to you that the people of this time living in arabia were not scholars, people who knew much about things in depth, or people that travelled extensively to gain knowledge. They were close knit tribespeople who were from clans that rarely if ever intermarried. You have to know the communities Islam came to before just stating flippantly that they knew a lot and other such things.

I know something about those communities - Just how filthy they must have been for GOD to ORDER them to wash their hands and feet several times a day Smile

PasseBlanc · 10/06/2012 23:34

My Dad is Iranian and renounced the Islamic faith when he moved to this country (and has never been back to Iran), so I am very interested in it and this post is marking my place to come back to tomorrow evening when I have time to read it with a clear head!

though I am also curious about the head scarves and burkas, is it just a representation of how literally the woman takes the idea of modesty?
I have been leaning towards wearing a head scarf for a while now but have not because I don't want to insult any Muslim I come across because I am not Islamic and do not intend to be, though I do have some spiritual beliefs.

PasseBlanc · 10/06/2012 23:34

may you have a peaceful one Cote :)

Hahahaha you are a supporter of Adnan Hodja, are you? A minute ago, YOU THOUGHT HE WAS DEAD! Grin

Harun Yahya was a Turkish scholar and muslim who has since passed away I believe.

CoteDAzur · 10/06/2012 23:37

I'm off to bed with a smile. Thank you for this thread, PasseBlanc Grin

only4tonight · 10/06/2012 23:39

you have a belief, you follow a belief system. You cannot say you have proof when all you have is evidence.

You cant prove anything is right. Something is only right until someone proves it wrong.

Just look at DNA. Scientists can say that the odds of 2 unrelated people having the same DNA profile is so unbelievably unlikely that it will ever be seen. They cannot say without a doubt that it will not happen. Its all about evaluating evidence and weighing up the likelyhoods.

You have balanced up the evidence and are sure of your path. Good for you.

Others have done the same and come up with different conclusions.

Who am I, or you, to judge who is right and who is wrong. At the end of the day do you not believe that that is for GOD to judge?

Roseformeplease · 10/06/2012 23:46

The thing I love about Mumsnet is all the clever people who come on and say all the things I wish I had said and make me smile. Thanks CoteDAzur - you have made my night.

nailak · 11/06/2012 00:15

Sis passe,

Have you seen the videos on you tube of harun yahyah dancing on tv with scantily clad girls?

I thoroughly believe the science in Quran, the formation of foetus, mountains as pegs, clouds, etc but I cannot support harun yahyah as he is an open sinner. This is not even backbiting as he sins in public, he is a hypocrite.

Cote I can't believe I'm backing u up on an Islam thread Grin

nailak · 11/06/2012 00:48

One of the first books I read was a brief illustrated guide to Quran, here http://www.islam-guide.com/ch1-1.htm it explains the science stuff if anyone did want to read it from another source.

I will stop spamming thread now.

thegreylady Even in a secular Muslim country, does it cause problems for your DIL to be married to a non-Muslim?

Mustgettogym · 11/06/2012 02:01

Oh dear Passé Blanc

CoteDAzur · 11/06/2012 07:38

Hi nailak - It is indeed a singular event that you are supporting me on a thread about religion. Grin

Do you think OP is an Adnan Hodja groupie? If so, she will need help from you to break free.
