Islam - is anyone interested in it? No preaching, just asking...

PasseBlanc · 10/06/2012 21:37

Just wondering if anyone here is or has ever been interested in coming to Islam, despite all the bad press/media hype etc?

I'm not here to quote and preach, I just want to maybe answer a few questions from my own perspective as a convert/revert muslim and give a bit of evidence.

Your thoughts/opinions/questions welcome

Arw yiu a new convert passe?

PasseBlanc · 10/06/2012 23:08

CotedAzur

where is all your proof for this may I ask?

If it's just internet stuff which I suspect it is, then I suggest you do your research a bit better.

Not really. Which lot are right? Which sect has not deviated from Muhammed's original instruction?

You cannot claim on the one hand that the Qu'ran is immutable and infallible, and then say that unfortunately, whatever percentage of its followers that don't agree with you have got it wrong.

Or rather, you CAN claim that, and then what you get is Northern Ireland, basically. Sectarianism is bollocks, but is also a daily reality for millions of people of whatever religion and none.

PasseBlanc · 10/06/2012 23:09

KalSkirata - nope. been here 5 years almost now. alhamdulilah.

You say the knowledge is from a time after killing, sacrafice, disection and study was common place. So it is not IMPOSSIBLE that this knowledge was generally around at the time or that it could have been communicated in some way?

There is NO proof for any religion. This is why they are called BELIEFS!

PasseBlanc · 10/06/2012 23:10

Does anyone want to explain to me in those ignorant times, full of superstition and tales, how the Qur'an so eloquently mentions the orbit of the planets and the construction of the heavens?>

Off to bed. Will catch up innthe morning

CoteDAzur · 10/06/2012 23:11

"Words arent changed but their meanings are interpreted and are open to manipulation. That is how you have different branches of Islam (and any other religion)"

Not really. The two main branches of Islam (Sunni and Shia) have separated for reasons that have nothing to do with what Quran says.

HelloCheeky · 10/06/2012 23:11

What's with your preoccupation with dissection ? You can gather a great deal of folk wisdom about pregnancies from stillbirths and miscarriages. There have been midwives since the dawn of time and this is the sort of knowledge they would have. Scientific understanding did not arrive with European scholars.

Anyway, you could bombard me with volumes of quotes from the Quran about astronomy, biology ,physics or whatever. I still don't understand what this proves about Islam.

CrunchyFrog · 10/06/2012 23:11

cote yes, that's rather my point.

OP is claiming Islam is different. It isn't. Same old, same old, hate the Other because My God Is Better Than Your Interpretation Of The Same Basic God. Or something.

PasseBlanc · 10/06/2012 23:12

only4tonight - believe what you wish then. I think you are too scared perhaps to read and study for yourself. The truth is hard to hear and see, I know that myself which is why I couldnt deny Islam.

OP posts:
PasseBlanc · 10/06/2012 23:13

Cruncyfrog - you are the same. I think too scared to read and study for yourself. Don't proclaim things you have no real knowledge about.

OP posts:
TapirBackRider · 10/06/2012 23:13

You say you're not going to preach OP?

Your last sentence says otherwise, and is patronising to boot.

only4tonight · 10/06/2012 23:14

So yours is the true path? and if you ask a Muslim from another branch of Islam they will agree with you and say that theirs is a deviated path?

Hellocheeky - if you can't seriously understand the amazing compilations given by revelation to an illiterate man over a period of 25 years and you won't study it or bother to read for yourself, then of course, it won't prove anything to you.

anyway, whatever we believe we have our rights to believe that.

The Qur'an even states - 'let there be no complusion in religion'

taliban could learn a few lessons from that obviously. I wish all of you the best in whatever you believe.

Long before the start of the common era people knew of semen and believed that all of the foetus was in the semen. The thought the woman was purely a vessel to allow the semen to grow. What they did not know about was the ovum. That is why in the torah the sin of Onan was considered bad because by practicing coitus r with his brothers wife he was denying her the child and they saw the spilt semen as killing a baby.

CoteDAzur · 10/06/2012 23:17

Crunchy - Islam is not better, it is just more recent than the other two Abrahamic religions. It has the same deity, and many of the same characters (a full chapter dedicated to Mary, mother of Jesus, for example).

Because it is six centuries more recent, it is slightly more rational and talks about things that weren't previously known. It doesn't say "suffer not a witch to live" but says "don't hit women too much, just smack them lightly".

QuintessentialShadows · 10/06/2012 23:17

And that was Aristotle.

only4tonight · 10/06/2012 23:19

I dont need patronising or education. I have read enough about many faiths up to the point I realise that I cannot identify wholly with them. I am open minded enough to accept that my own beliefs may be wrong. I also believe that THAT openmindedness is the true path to enightenment.

You cannot accept any view other than your own. Who here needs the education more?

Mustgettogym · 10/06/2012 23:19

OP people like you make other Muslims angry.

You should find a more appropriate forum to preach

And Yahya - that is common knowledge. It's not Internet gossip. You should research your sources. Not that the link you have given provides any wrong information. Just don't support Yahya - did ge convert you?

PasseBlanc · 10/06/2012 23:19

CoteDAzur - Whether you are turkish or not and watched him in turkey, where is the prrod he did what he did? I mean clear hard evidence?

Because we have many men locked up in Guantanomobay on terrorism charges, although strangely enough there is no evidence, just a hatred towards them because they are muslim and want to give people information about Islam. I suggest you google Babar Ahmed and his plight. Until I see concrete facts, the media and the people can say whatever they want.

And a little reminder about your manners, no need to patronise me and call me your 'little convert friend'. I'm a 23 year old mother of two children with my own mind, thanks.

Airstotles statements that the female were like an infertile male, was upheld by Galen, and common belief until the 16th century, so for nearly 2000 years. Aristotle of course lived around 350 bc.

CrunchyFrog · 10/06/2012 23:20

It's nice that you've found a belief system that chimes with what you need to believe.
