Well, the steroids have definitely worked to suppress the GVHD rash and it would appear the GVHD was the cause of her temp spikes. BUT, her sats are still way down and she is on 3ltr of oxygen. The trouble with steroids is that they can worsen viral infection and we know she has human metapneumo virus in her lungs. But the GVHD was the greater clinical exigency.
She's having another chest CT to get a better idea of what is in her chest, fluid or infection, the docs can't tell from xray and she has already had broncoscope and lavage (since she does not have many white blood cells, there is no pus).
She is still 1.5ltr positive cumulatively, so she is on two big pushes of frusamide/day, and this is definitely keeping her waterworks moving.
She nearly had to go to ITU yesterday.
Worse comes to worse she'll need Septrin, but her cons doesn't want to use that because it suppresses the bone marrow.
BUT, SarahStratton MNer saved her birthday bacon with plenty of Tangled plates, cups and napkins so the kids in the unit will be having Gregg's cupcakes to celebrate her big day tomorrow! :)
