Well here you are then Smile I don't post often, but just to save Nickel a job...

OP posts:
nickelhasababy · 27/02/2012 12:26

brain exercises? tell me more....

marmiteandhoney · 27/02/2012 12:47

The pseudo-science behind the Brain Gym franchise is probably somewhat dodgy, but, hey, everybody benefits from a concentrated wriggle in between hard concentrated thinking!

This link gives you some ideas. If you google brain gym/lazy eights/cross crawl I expect you'll come up with others.

Benefits are that it's a 'wriggle' that has a beginning, an end, and you can slot it in for nothing more than a minute when they're getting fidgetty.

nickelhasababy · 27/02/2012 14:13

cool, i'll have a look.

I've just received delivery of Real Easter Eggs to sell both in the shop and in the church.

I was all excited about it, but I've decided it's a really bad plan.
They sell at £3.99.
So while I think the idea of the Real Easter Egg is a really, really good one, I very much doubt anyone will buy one because of the price :(
I feel like a prat now, because I've 48 eggs that I know won't sell. :(

nickelhasababy · 27/02/2012 14:14

(and I don't get any money out of it, because all the money goes to charity, so I can't even reduce the price because of how much I paid for them)

madhairday · 27/02/2012 15:19

I think they're a great idea, Nickel. People need to realise what the cost involved in fairtrade chocolate is. Bet a lot will sell if you make a display - people are more switched on now to the issues, and also the whole real story of easter thing - Christians will want to buy those for their children. I'll be doing so for mine :)

Panda - wow. I am a huge fan of Andy Hawthorne having gone to Impact now for several years at NW - amazing stuff. Sounds to me like you do loads in terms of sharing your faith, but it's good to be challenged as to how we can take things on. When faith is built up these things seem to happen more naturally somehow :)

Been to the hospital this morning for a meds trial so starting on new meds as it went OK. Hopefully it will help.

MarynotBeSarcastic · 27/02/2012 16:02

We buy the Real Easter eggs, but not many places seem to be selling them this year, compared to last year. Last year Waitrose had them in. I don't think £3.99 is a lot, not when you think how much the Divine Easter eggs are! You could publicise them at your church, sell them that way? I think you might be pleasantly surprised...???

nickelhasababy · 27/02/2012 16:16

Oh, yes, I hope to sell them in the church - I have to ask the Churchwarden for permission first. :)

I've also listed them on our Choir website, so hopefully, that will pop up on a Google search.

I just think they're such a great idea, it's just cost....(and in this town, people don't seem to care that much about fairtrade as long as it's cheap :( )

A lot of the supermarkets decided not to take them "they don't have the demand" - no, supermarkets, i think what you mean is "we create demand by stocking what we want people to buy. If we don't people to want it, we won't stock it, thereby creating a circle of proof."

DutchOma · 27/02/2012 16:59

I don't think £3.99 is that bad for an Easter egg, how big are they? You can't really see from the picture.

OP posts:
nickelhasababy · 27/02/2012 17:18

It's rather large.
the box is about 7inch high by 5inch wide
can't really tell the size of the egg inside
(have just opened box, it's about 5 ¼ " high and 3¼" wide)

madhairday · 27/02/2012 17:41

It annoys me so much about supermarkets saying that nickel - that's it, a circle of proof. You would have thought at least the co-op would give them a go? (not sure if they are) as it is, not many places stock them hence them not selling well. All supermarkets care about is profits, lets face it. Sigh.

Bet yours will sell - send me a link to your web page and I could buy mine from you! (if you send them - is it just for advertising the shop?)

raininginbaltimore · 27/02/2012 19:21

To answer a much earlier question- yes I was on this thread :) It doesn't really matter if you out me. I was spending too much time online, so deleted all my accounts. But decided to come back and just be more disciplined with myself!

We have sold those eggs at church before, they seem to go well. I think it is an ok price to pay for fair trade chocolate.

niminypiminy · 27/02/2012 19:59

I'd buy them, but we only have Tesco round here and they don't stock them. But the URC church in town has a fair trade shop, maybe they will . Maybe you should do mail order, Nickel?

In other news, I've just come back from my Cursillo weekend, which was amazing. Has anyone else done Cursillo?

DutchOma · 28/02/2012 07:18

Does it say how heavy the egg is?

OP posts:
nickelhasababy · 28/02/2012 11:14

i'll have a look.

we took one home last night - the chocolate is thick, and rather yummy actually. Grin[

125grammes.

i've put them on the choir website, so not shop advertising (i hope)
(sorry mnhq if it is - delete if you think inappropriate)

nickelhasababy · 28/02/2012 11:23

here is the link

nickelhasababy · 28/02/2012 11:24

the other church, that we've just joined in a team ministry, is taking 20 to sell at their church "to see how it goes"
:)

nickelhasababy · 28/02/2012 11:29

btw, as i don't make anything on these, postage costs are being absorbed by the shop (extra incentive there?) Grin

nickelhasababy · 29/02/2012 12:17

noticed this morning that our was set to private - i've changed it to linked.

so if you click on you should be able to watch it.
(phew)

MarynotBeSarcastic · 01/03/2012 07:51

Is anyone else following the 40 acts from stewardship? Is it me, or does it assume that you're in a job and earning? I can quite easily give a day's wage, but then a day's wage for me is absolutely nothing (although I can give a day of my time I guess). Yesterday suggested giving a holiday to someone who needed one (but no-one gave me one Wink, I kept hoping...)

Nickel, I've been planning to buy a couple of the eggs, is it really cost-effective for you to sell them in this way, by post? I'm happy to buy them from you, but if you could sell them locally I guess it would be better (if not, I'll have 2 please :o). Last year the Cathedral was selling them, wonder if they are doing that this year?

madhairday · 01/03/2012 09:28

I wanted to ask the same as Mary, nickel - I was worried that you didn't charge postage so would be out of pocket - if not I will def order!

nickelhasababy · 01/03/2012 11:34

well, i don't mind selling them and paying for postage for one or two - all in a good cause!
yes, please place an order on the website.
link again if you need it
:)

nickelhasababy · 01/03/2012 11:36

mary - i assume it means earning too.
my day's wages are negative at the moment! (according to hmrc i have a loss carried over )

MarynotBeSarcastic · 01/03/2012 12:39

If you're negative earnings, then perhaps you should just take it out of the giving you'd planned to do :o (failing that, Sunday's collection plate :o )

If anyone is at a loose end on Sunday evening at 8.30 for half an hour, and wants to sit through Diane-Louise Jordan wittering on (and listen to some other choirs...), THEN they can hear our church choir singing Nolo mortem peccatoris, Forgive our sins as we forgive, and Dear Lord and Father of mankind. Including my older two children :)
