:). Doesn't really trip off the tongue though, maybe if she had a bit more time. I think her focus is going to be on all the other stuff, she's getting too worked up about this small bit!

nickelhasababy · 25/02/2012 10:42

yes, i think, looking at the syllabus, it's a tiny part of one section - even if she got it wrong, she wouldn't fail if she got most of the rest right.

good luck to her today! xxx

MarynotBeSarcastic · 25/02/2012 15:18

She never got asked on the keys! Am a bit Hmm that the choir leader told her that the Christmas story is in all 4 gospels, which she dutifully repeated (totally forgetting I'd told her it was only in Matthew and Luke) and she struggled to remember a thing about Martin Howell (composer of the piece she sang), but apart from that, she did very well. One slight fluff on the psalm, but her choir leader said it was the best she'd ever sung it. I could hear her through the door, she sounded lovely :)

There's a possibility that we'll know this evening how she did, eek!!!

nickelhasababy · 25/02/2012 15:59

all 4 gospels? hmmm.

shame about the biog. hopefully she knew enough about the piece itself to gloss over that.
I thought day by day was How? (different arrangement i suppose)

Ohh, let us know when you find out! Grin

MarynotBeSarcastic · 25/02/2012 17:12

Yes, it was How, not Howell. Good job I wasn't taking it Blush

YAY SHE PASSED!!!!! :o Got 67%

Congratulations to Mary's dd. Well done.

Well done R - proud mum moment for Mary! I am cream crackered - spent most of the day cleaning out kitchen cupboards and chucking out out-of-date food in readiness for our move. I really don't want to take all our rubbish with us. Cupboards should just need a quick wipe out on moving day now, and contents will not need editing as we pack! No date yet, but things seem to be progressing.

Tuo · 26/02/2012 00:22

Well done, Mary's DD! Congratulations! Excellent news on the bling too!

So... I'm back. I've had a tough week... didn't get the job that I'd applied for, which is OK (and I've got a promotion at home, anyway Grin) but disappointing because I thought it'd help me to get a bit more of a grip on my work-life balance, but it seems I'm going to have to manage that one by myself. (I told my manager I was struggling with this and he said 'Well, it's your life and it's your work: it's up to you to balance them', which I thought at the time was deeply unhelpful, but I realise that he's not wrong... I do need to accept that my current situation is untenable and try to do something about it...) But I'm ready to stop navel-gazing and to move on now.

Better go to bed soon... DD2 is serving tomorrow and we need to be there nice (if that's the right word for a Sunday morning) and early as the Cathedral is currently being refurbished and the nave is currently completely closed and all services are taking place in the quire... so whether anyone will know what they are doing is a moot point! They did have a rehearsal last week, so we shall see... She's still very excited by the serving... In fact, she did tell me this week that when she grows up she wants to be 'a thurifer with a thurible'! Smile

Good luck with the move Panda. One upside of not getting the job is that at least I'm not now manically worrying about moving house! Every cloud, etc...!

marmiteandhoney · 26/02/2012 09:12

Well done to Mary's daughter :)

News from here is that the house has sold. Not sure when we'll be moving out, but it sounds fairly likely that we'll end up in the vacant rectory for a while, before we move on from here.

I have a real proper lectionary excuse for getting out the playmobil noah's ark in church this morning, which makes me very happy.

DutchOma · 26/02/2012 14:37

Will that mean two moves Marmite?

OP posts:
marmiteandhoney · 26/02/2012 17:45

Yes. And hopefully not three! Hmm

madhairday · 26/02/2012 18:47

Yay for Mary's dd! I remember doing my Bishop's award about that age and loving the medal Grin bring on the bling!!

Tuo - hello! Sorry about the job. Great to see you.

Marmite, hope the move is ok - is the rectory alright to move into? I know some are falling apart. Oh yes I love my playmo too - any excuse really Grin

raininginbaltimore · 26/02/2012 18:56

Hello. I have been here before under an old name, took a brief break after randomly deleting my account so rejoined under new name.

Anyway, I have been a group leader on an alpha course and yesterday was our holy spirit day. It was amazing, I was so privileged to be asked to pray for people and be witness to people asking Jesus into their lives. I was buzzing! And I really wanted to share!

madhairday · 26/02/2012 19:16

Fantastic, raining! Sounds brilliant - love days like that. Were you on this thread under your old name?

marmiteandhoney · 26/02/2012 20:26

I think the rectory has some stuff that needs doing to it, but isn't leaking or falling down. Costs a bomb to heat (old, high ceilings- lovely rooms) but G.W. we'll be out of there by next winter.

My 7yo just got back from singing evensong having won the choir Mars bar. I'm in shock. He must have actually paid attention and concentrated (crazy adhd wriggler). Grin So proud I could burst.

DutchOma · 26/02/2012 21:09

Oh bless, Marmite, that's just lovely.

OP posts:
PandaG · 26/02/2012 21:41

lovely Marmite!

fab morning at church today - Any Hawthorn(e?) from the Message Trust was speaking - it is 20 years since the World Wide Message Tribe started. He was preaching on Jesus calling the disciples, telling them to cast out their nets, and that from now on they would be fishers of men. Was a really challenging preach on how we should be fishing.

I've been challenged recently about sharing the gospel with others - everyone knows I am a Christian, I frequently offer to pray for people, talk about what God is doing in my life...but I don't explicitly tell people about Jesus. Had a great opportunity last week when a friend came for coffee, and she asked me why I decided to become a Christian - so I told her! Praying for more opportunities, and for discernment and boldness too.

nickelhasababy · 27/02/2012 11:35

We could have problems with choristers.

New one was really miserable (for want of a better word) on Friday, and told DH that he had been forced to join the choir.
:(
Now we're worrying that, having been forced to join, that he comes and doesn't enjoy it.
He seemed in better spirits yesterday, but left very quickly after the service (unusual cos his dad normally hangs around), so we didn't get a chance to check if he was alright.

Now we've got to come up with little bits that we can put in to practices on Fridays that aren't "games" as such, but might make him feel a bit more positive about coming.

Doesn't help that JC1 is very attention-seeking and rather hogs practice (and can be a bit troublesome too)

we had a bad sunday this week - it was a baptism service, but 1 bass and 1 sop were ill, and another sop didn't come cos she's married to the bass.
2 other sops had to leave before we did our anthems (sop mum works at 12, and service was overrunning because of the baptism and still doing Creed and Sermon! Hmm), so sop daughter had to go too Hmm)
and JC1 wasn't there either, so in the sop line, it was me and JC2.
So we couldn't do both anthems (one anthem was okay cos sop line sings with tenor line, and it was with organ), because the 2nd anthem was unaccompanied and JC2 hadn't learned it on Friday (DH likes to concentrate on one of the anthems to make it easier for them), and I was not happy singing the sop line on my own!! (i don't mind if it's one i know backwards, but i didn't get it completely right in practice, so I didn't dare)

MarynotBeSarcastic · 27/02/2012 11:44

I know DD enjoys some of the voice exercises, which sound extremely silly but do the job. Maybe something like that?

nickelhasababy · 27/02/2012 11:49

they do those. Grin
(my favourites)

and they march up and down the church to learn rhythms.

I think i'm stuck.
can't decide whether it's jkc1 overshadowing, or whether it's just because he doesn't want to be there he doesn't want to be there iyswim.

nickelhasababy · 27/02/2012 11:50

jc1 (dd on lap)

marmiteandhoney · 27/02/2012 11:51

Yes, voice exercises, and some of those brain exercises too (eg. lazy eights, cross crawl etc) are always fun.
