I know we've not officially finished the last one, but I wanted to get the link in before we ran out of room!

Everyone welcome - the aim of this thread is to generally chat about church life, or just gossip in general!
You don't have to be a regular church-goer, nor do you have to know what we're going on about!
It's not about debate, it's just about chatting
:)

ooh mhd praying! pm or fb me about where you have to go in to? I could come and visit if you want!

sorry for being quiet the past few days! Moved house, the floor is starting to re-appear, whilst boxes are being unpacked. The new house is absolutely lovely!

Praying for everyone else too!

madangelhairday · 13/12/2011 09:46

Thanks all, have updated on prayer thread. just a waiting game now.

MaryBeWaiting · 14/12/2011 08:57

This has gone a bit quiet with Nickel not being here. Hope you had a reasonable night MHD, prayers for you.

And AS Nickel isn't here, would anyone like to share what their favourite Graham Kendrick song is? :o

gingerbreadhousecurl · 14/12/2011 10:54

I know you are only joking, Mary, but after MHD set off Ingeldink Humperbert going round and round in my head a few days ago, it was finally exhorcised with Shine Jesus Shine the following Sunday. Thinking about the discussions on here, I had a difficult time singing it without bursting out laughing . Grin

MaryBeWaiting · 14/12/2011 11:43

I like SJS too! :)

newlark · 14/12/2011 12:57

I'm a bit of a GK fan - I like all kinds of music including more traditional but love some of the more recent songs. I like his new album "Banquet" - particularly "Apostles Creed" and "The Peace".

madangelhairday · 14/12/2011 13:17

My favourite is the very old 'O Lord the clouds are gathering' because I still think it has prophetic words for now and is very powerful. Lots of them are. Prefer the old ones to the new though.

Hvae updated situation on prayer thread. Only good thing is not in hospital. But cock up from end to side in health authority here I think. Trying not to get too stressed about it all as it makes me feel more ill!

MaryBeWaiting · 14/12/2011 14:04

I was singing King of Kings, Majesty earlier - seemed appropriate given the season. I might have to give his new album a try, newlark :)

thanksamillion · 14/12/2011 20:19

I love that nickel is off line for a few days and we have a GK love-in Grin.

On the subject of music does anyone recognise this carol? (youtube link here) It's a very poor version of it but a really nice carol which I've taught my Mums and toddlers group, but I can't work out if I know it in English and it doesn't quite seem to translate to anything I recognise. It's bugging me because the tune seems really familiar Hmm.

I had a really good session with the Mums and babies group today. I started it last Feb in our house with a couple of other Mums and wasn't sure if it would work as it's a totally new concept here. Today I had 14 Mums and 18 children, almost all from outside of church circles. It feels like it's such a big ministry opportunity which is really exciting. Smile

madangelhairday · 14/12/2011 20:54

I don't know it milly but lol'd a little at the group singing it, the backing track sounded like it was off one of those tiny little child's keyboards with the microphones and crappy drum mixes Xmas Grin and the people singing didn't look too happy. NIce tune though!!

hehe at GK lovein. Just remembering more - I do like Thorns in the Straw and I have a very soft spot for his original Make Way for Christmas album - I drag out the tape every year. dd told me that it 'wouldn't be good for anyone under 30 now, mum'. Hmmm. Probably true.

thanksamillion · 15/12/2011 07:14

I did say it was a bad version! Most singing groups here do use backing tracks of varying quality. There's one that our band use that sounds like the start of The Final Countdown and another one that really makes me think if should be Brotherhood of Man singing it (not that I'm old enough to remember them...) I'm often sniggering away to myself Grin

MaryBeWaiting · 15/12/2011 07:53

No, don't recognise that carol. :)

Another GK favourite is Servant King, so long as its not played at a funereal pace!

newlark · 15/12/2011 08:17

I love 'O Lord the clouds are gathering' too - I was playing it on the piano yesterday. Also "Come and See" which is another favourite :)

MaryBeWaiting · 15/12/2011 08:50

Ooo yes Come and see is good :)

thejaffacakesareonme · 15/12/2011 10:37

The first line is the same as the nursery rhyme Aly Bally Bee. I'm not sure if that is how it is spelt. It's an old scots nursery rhyme that my granny sang to me as a kid.

I like a lot of the older carols. They make me feel nostalgic. Anyone else know Child in a Manger? It is sung to the tune of Morning Has Broken and sounds beautiful unaccompanied.

thejaffacakesareonme · 15/12/2011 10:37

Sorry, that should have been spellled. Is spelt not something to do with flour?

madangelhairday · 15/12/2011 12:14

I don't think I know that one jaffa.

I love carols, nearly all of them. One of my favourites is 'O Come O come Immanuel' which is an advent carol and sung in candlelight it is just beautiful :)

I said to dh I will go to the carol service on sunday night even if he has to carry me Xmas Smile

nickelhadababyYesLord · 15/12/2011 17:52

You do realise (you Grahamina Kendricka Xmas Grin Xmas Hmm) that if she'd been a boy, she would have been James Graham....
(that's true, cos my dad's name is Graham)
Xmas Grin

nickelhadababyYesLord · 15/12/2011 17:56

yeah, i know that Child in a Manger.

I don't recognise the foreign carol either - the tune is not familiar.
i thought it was, but then the next line was different.
might ask DH later.

anyway, I've got a cup of Brew waiting for me downstairs!!

madangelhairday · 15/12/2011 17:58

Hey nickel!

How is your baby girl? Come on, tell us all about her Xmas Smile

GrahaminaKendricka · 15/12/2011 18:03

Welcome back Nickel!!! Tell us all about your little one! Xmas Grin

GrahaminaKendricka · 15/12/2011 18:07

I quite like my new name, I might keep it Xmas Grin

madangelhairday · 15/12/2011 18:11

Love nickel's new name Xmas Grin

GrahaminaKendricka · 15/12/2011 18:16
Xmas Grin
thejaffacakesareonme · 15/12/2011 21:25

Hi Nickel. Nice to see you back.

My 7 year old came out with something tonight that I loved. He said God didn't intend the world to be black, white and grey. He wants it to be in colour. I love that, so simple and yet I think so true.

Anyone else watching that programme about living with the Amish? I don't know enough about their theology and what I do know doesn't particularly attract me. I think their way of living though has good points and wonder if there is some stuff that we could learn from them. I like their focus on family and community and on simplifying life. I also like TV and cars and can't imagine myself wearing a bonnet though!

I like that hymn too MHD. Hope you make it to the service on Sunday.
