Graham, Gloria and Gossip! Religion Chat thread (part 4)

I know we've not officially finished the last one, but I wanted to get the link in before we ran out of room!

Everyone welcome - the aim of this thread is to generally chat about church life, or just gossip in general!
You don't have to be a regular church-goer, nor do you have to know what we're going on about!
It's not about debate, it's just about chatting
:)

Did you get my email Panda?

PandaG · 18/08/2011 09:45

yes, thanks so much Mary - Have I not replied? Ooops. Sorry Blush. has made interesting and useful reading. Thank you, I do appreciate it!

PandaG · 18/08/2011 09:46

As for my studying, I keep reading and then thinking I really don't understand that bit!

newlark · 18/08/2011 15:54

Panda - have you looked at the Tom Wright "for Everyone" series? I've only read the one on Mark but found it very accessible. I have a couple of the William Barclay ones which I've also found helpful but don't have Romans.

ZipadiSoozi · 18/08/2011 18:55

Must remember this thread, keep twaddling on the prayer thread, naughty soozi!

MaryBS · 19/08/2011 08:03

Good, its just that its been a while since I emailed you, and wasn't sure if it was a current email address :)

Off on holiday today, not back till 3 September :)

PandaG · 19/08/2011 11:20

Have a lovely holiday Mary :) and thanks again for the notes :)

I'm busy doing admin for the BIble study group - sorting out the discussion groups for next year and sorting out people to do the talks. Glad I've got some child free time to do it in !

PandaG · 19/08/2011 11:22

oh Newlark, you are the second person to recommend Tom Wright, best I get down to CLC to have a look! Thanks :)

MaryBS · 19/08/2011 11:33

I've got some of Tom Wrights books, and like them, they form a good introduction to a biblical book. I have most of the gospel ones.

nickelbabe · 19/08/2011 11:39

soozi - i'm sure noone minds you gossiping on the prayer thread :)

madhairday · 25/08/2011 19:15

Hi everyone!

Back from the dark ages and have tinternet at last. nickel, no I don't have it on my phone, never used it enough to warrant paying the extra fiver or whatever, am thinking of it for next renewal though. But nice to be back!

Move went so well - all v smooth - dc had a wonderful time at my parents then loved coming 'home' to their new rooms. We spent too much time in Ikea and the local chippie but all in all things have gone great and it's looking nearly in order now apart from the garage which you can't get in due to boxes and junk. It's lovely - so pleased!

Missed you all!

teddies · 25/08/2011 19:22

is anyone going to Greenbelt?

madhairday · 26/08/2011 16:33

Did I scare you all off?

Hi teddies, not going to GB though have friends who are and am jealous. It's not DH's idea of fun though, and we have recently been to NW so couldn't afford it anyway - are you there now? Hope you're enjoying it there.

nickelbabe · 26/08/2011 17:05

awww, welcome back mhd - glad you're settling in Grin

never heard of greenbelt, teddies What's that then?

thanksamillion · 26/08/2011 20:38

Hello all and welcome back mhd although I don't think I've posted in the time that you've been away either Blush. I've been trying to sort out the house and get things ready for the Autumn programme to start, and we've been getting our brand spanking new internet cafe ready to open (photos here). Unfortunately we can't open yet as we don't have any electricity and can't get it until a million tiny pieces of paper have been stamped by 400 different people (or something like that). I've finally had two weeks with no visitors, but the next one comes on Monday night, followed swiftly by someone else on Friday.

Tomorrow we're off to the wedding of one of the lads from the church who is also about to become (along with his new wife) one of the youth workers in our new centre. Baptist weddings here are an odd mix of Moldovan and western traditions but with no drinking or dancing Hmm - trad Orthodox ones look frankly more exciting and go on all night with much drinking and dancing Grin. Hope you're all having a nice bank holiday.

teddies · 26/08/2011 23:34

I am back and had a fantastic time, saw Show of Hands and Martyn Joseph (still have a teeensy crush on him that I have been harbouring since I was at school rahter a long time ago). Also went to a fantastic mass done by a group calling themselves rabidly anglo-catholic and aggressively inclusive, it was brilliant, multi-media with lots of incense and vestments and a hugely loud rock band doing the music. Weird combination, but really interesting. Shame we could only go today, I would have loved to have heard Rob Bell tomorrow and lots of other stuff.

Now here is a question to be answered by people with a bit of knowledge of Jewish history:- How did it get from Exodus 12:11 to Matthew 26:20? In other words when did the celebration go from a hurried meal to a celebration which took time enough to 'recline at the table'?
We celebrated communion this morning with big references to the Jewish passover, but this was not mentioned at all. I just wondered.

newlark · 29/08/2011 21:35

sounds great teddies - I went to greenbelt a couple of times in my teens and went to several Martyn Joseph concerts in the late eighties - brings back memories!

nickelbabe · 30/08/2011 11:01

that looks fabulous milly - but such hard work! Shock

madhairday · 30/08/2011 16:31

Gosh yes I went to GB in the eighties and also saw Martyn Joseph then, can't believe he is still going strong, also had a wee crush on him at the time.

Not sure re the history q DO, may ask DH later, he's bound to know more Grin

Manic week here, have my niece staying so have three wired children to entertain, hence not being around much. Also getting ready for the licensing on tuesday. Can't believe it's all really real now.
