I know we've not officially finished the last one, but I wanted to get the link in before we ran out of room!

Everyone welcome - the aim of this thread is to generally chat about church life, or just gossip in general!
You don't have to be a regular church-goer, nor do you have to know what we're going on about!
It's not about debate, it's just about chatting
:)

Mary - at least it's not Cheryl Cole! Grin
nickel - you sound tired and like you need some rest, hope you can get some this weekend.

nickelbabe · 07/10/2011 16:14

I do need some rest!
I've been catnapping in the shop
yesterday, I laid down my head on a pile of cushions just for a rest (not to sleep), and found myself actually waking up.
tried to do it today, too, but didn't drop off.

Just popped into the thread to say hello! What a nice (bleurgh. Can't I come up with a better word than that?) thread to stumble across. I just "met" madhairday on another thread and followed her over here.

Hope you're all still having a lie-in. :)

nickelbabe · 08/10/2011 12:15

hello lostinafrica - welcome to the thread! :)

It can get a bit quiet here from time to time, but we're always lurking (it's usually most busy sunday afternoons, can't think why Wink)

No lie-in for me, cos I'm working - my biggest lie-in is on sunday, when I don't get up till half past 8! Shock

tell us a bit about yourself (if you want to)

madhairday · 08/10/2011 12:28

Hi lostinafrica! So glad you've come over here. This is a nice safe fun thread for us all to take the rip out of each other bring different perspectives and talk about Graham Kendrick. It's a bit scary out there in AIBU and I always come back here, it's like coming home and having a nice cup of tea Grin

Yes tell us about yourself :)

nickelbabe · 08/10/2011 12:32

nonononononnononononononono we do not talk about Graham Kendrick! Shock

passes round the Brew

OP posts:
madhairday · 08/10/2011 12:41

nickelbabe · 08/10/2011 12:56

OP posts:
nickelbabe · 08/10/2011 12:58

but only that and nothing more.

(for some reason, now we've learned it, DH wants us to do it at christmas - and we're doing it at the WI carol service too!)

OP posts:
nickelbabe · 08/10/2011 12:58

Oooh I love that one, it's timeless I think

nickelbabe · 08/10/2011 13:07

ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

that's one of my least favourites - mainly because everyone gets the blinkin' rhythm wrong and it sounds like pub singing!

OP posts:
madhairday · 08/10/2011 13:13

And what is wrong with pub singing, may I ask? Grin

I like a good bit of screeching my head off pub styleeee.

(To clarify, SJS is by no means a favourite being rather overdone throughout my yoof, but it just caught me where I needed today, and I have you to thank for this nickel) Grin

nickelbabe · 08/10/2011 13:33

pub singing's fien in a pub. Grin

oh no I'm actually encouraging the misuse of GK in every day life.

oh dear oh dear oh dear

MaryBS · 08/10/2011 17:21

We've had a beer festival in our church, so why not pub singing too?

Am feeling vaguely human now, after yesterday, what with a couple of hours sleep and a nice relaxing hot shower (complete with hair pampering).

We decorated the church this morning for Harvest. Am autistic rather than artistic, but I bought a couple of bunches of large headed sunflowers, and when I discovered all the vases had gone, found a tin watering can instead, and arranged them in that and now feel incredibly proud of my efforts Blush.

Going to a piano concert tonight, a lady from church's fiance is immensely talented and has agreed to give a concert for church funds :).

lostinafrica · 08/10/2011 19:08

Hello again. Ooh, this is nice, someone on MN has asked me about myself! Erm...

I live in North Africa in perpetual heat and dust. (Have an image of your lovely-sounding harvest display in my head, MaryBS - it's making me feel just slightly homesick!) I have a DH who spends too much time doing his save-the-world job and not enough time with his family. Hey-ho. :) And I have four DCs who make sure I never feel lonely... Even at 2am, DS pops up bedside to say hello.

I'm also a fairly talented mosquito slayer.

madhairday · 09/10/2011 11:16

Is it me or is this last comment to me by sgb on 'that' thread a personal attack?

"Madhairday: Hmm, yes, I can understand you saying you are 'drugged up'. Must be good stuff if helps you believe all the self-contradicting, illogical and frequently unpleasant crap that the Christian myth system is full of (oh, and so are all the rest)."

Please tell me if so because I can't seem to get my head round it because I am actually drugged up a lot and not able to shake of this bloody chest infection. I am feeling miserable and hurt. Odd because up til yesterday I did feel like I can just bat it all off, I usually can I think. So am I being oversensitive??

madhairday · 09/10/2011 11:17

oh lostinafrica - great to hear about you, what is your dh's 'save the world' job? :) Sounds quite hard going for you. Do you have some kind of church community there?

lostinafrica · 09/10/2011 12:15

Nah, it's not a personal attack, just sgb being her usual lovely self. The attack is against our beliefs, as usual.

He does aid work, mainly development - helping people to look after themselves better. Tree planting, growing food, healthcare, getting different communities talking to each other, all that sort of thing.

The church community is great, but it's frustrating that the service is at 5:30 till 7pm on Sunday, since it is a working day here. If your family's anything like mine, that covers teatime, bathtime and bedtime... Hmm

Going to miss it today as I'm not feeling well and do church here at home. Advantage of having 4 DCs - readymade Sunday School! :o

lostinafrica · 09/10/2011 12:26

sgb is great on the relationships board where she can direct her acidic tongue at all the miscreant menfolk. I always tell myself that it's Christians' beliefs she pours her scorn on, but to be honest I think she has a problem separating the beliefs from the people believing them. She probably doesn't know that you've not been well and are not thinking straight - and I don't think she cares either...

Here, have a Brew to help the slow brain... :)

DutchOma · 09/10/2011 13:27

SGB is the limit if she thinks it is ok to say that to you. Even if not drugged up you believe all that 'crap' and so do I and millions of other people who find it gives them a reason to get out of bed in the morning and to try and make a better world for all of us.
You really have to feel sorry for her that she has none of that. If she is anything like my daughter you can annoy her by offering to pray for her Grin

madhairday · 09/10/2011 13:37

I know. I was going to report it but decided I'll leave it. I feel sorry for her too. lol at offering to pray. I somehow don't think that would go down too well Grin

After a morning listening to Hillsong I feel better and stronger in my faith than ever. I think that's partly why I do this to myself, I find that partaking in these threads strengthens it all somehow - I know that's not for everyone but there's a sense of excitement as I can feel the Holy Spirit moving and I love it :) Doesn't mean I get it right always - far from it, but it feels like a little bit of my calling somehow...I know that sounds off the wall Grin but that's me.

PandaG · 09/10/2011 13:42

Amen MHD, Amen. Glad I believe all the 'crap' too. Had a fab sermon on our identity in Christ this morning, was just what I needed to hear. Thanks God!
