Here we are!

Roll up and sign in!

Oldies welcome, newbies welcome, anyone welcome!

It's basically a "what happened in church/spiritual life/anything else you want to chat about that's vaguely related (or not) to churchy stuff.

yeah, i think so.
problem is, there's nowhere other than the Pulpit to put the recorder without it being in anyone's way (and we can't attach anything to the walls without the 3 year debate on whether it would ruin the building)
we sing from the stalls, whic hmeans that people walk through us, so I cna't set it up on a tripod.
I will try pulling the zoom back, so that it captures more surround sound.

(i've also told DH it might be worth doing more stuff with the organ, but he hates the idea of anything that's "supposed" to be unaccompanied being accompanied - he's still not reconciled to the fact that we just don't have as many singers as we used to)

madhairday · 13/06/2011 12:11

You need something suspended from the ceiling! Or what that be included in the 3 year debate thing (I know just what you mean) Grin Hmm

Or could it be set up at the back, but more in the middle somehow, or is that just too far away?

I bet it sounds fab live - often recordings just don't reflect what it's really like - even perfect TV recordings don't always capture things brilliantly.

Just rang the school and have arranged a date to take the children to see it. Spoke to amazingly lovely lady again, she sounded so pleased the dcs got in, wish all school/doctors receptionists were like her!! So excited now.

nickelbabe · 13/06/2011 12:15

it would need the 3year debate (cos there are no hooks)

When, in the past, the choir has been recorded, it's always been outside of a service, with loads of technical equipment and several microphones.
I don't think our choir would take kindly to doing all that again (and we don't have the equipment anymore)

The advantage of the pulpit is that it is directly before the archway that kills the sound.
If we put it further back, we'd be in the altar, so much noise from communion.
Plus, where it is, you can pick up the sopranos better.
I think I'll just have to play around (or get DH to make the choir be recorded during practice)

madhairday · 14/06/2011 14:20

Quiet today.

Helloooo

Well I'll witter at myself then. Have got loads done today and still have energy. Don't know how to cope with it!! Feel like a different person - think it must have been the holiday by the sea. Just need it to carry on now for the next few weeks, through new wine and then the move.

How's everyone?

nickelbabe · 14/06/2011 14:25

hello!

I've not got much gossip today Wink

I've done hardly anything today, but I feel like i've been busy....

madhairday · 18/06/2011 11:22

Where is everyone this week? I haven't been around much as been mega busy and now ill again so taking time to rest. Hope all are OK.

DH is helping organise an ordination at our church this afternoon, sounds like it'll be a great service actually, wish I was going. DS is at a beavers away day, no doubt getting very wet Grin

nickelbabe · 18/06/2011 15:06

i noticed there wasn't much activity either - I think it had dropped off my I'm On list. Shock

nickelbabe · 18/06/2011 15:06

We had a fabulous practice with the guides last night - there will be 5 of them taking the badge, and 4 at the service (the one that's most keen has to do a family thing away. :( )

We joined with the choir, and it sounded really good.
:)

DutchOma · 19/06/2011 08:55

I'm off to Baroque's baptism this afternoon

MaryBS · 20/06/2011 09:06
nickelbabe · 20/06/2011 10:17

ah, I wonder if she'll coem here to talk about it?

Her facebook status is going on about not having wireless connection and having probs with her internet, so we'll see......
She's put that it went really well, and that she'll upload photos when it's fixed.
:)

and we finally did something right in our Communion singing! Grin
We did Holy, Holy, Holy by Schubert, and although we dropped (of course, it'd be a bloody miracle if we didn't!), it was not even a semitone (or just a semitone - but definitely not much at all, considering how low the piece is!)
and we also did Prayer of St Patrick (Rutter), but that did audibly drop..... Hmm

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 20/06/2011 10:19

yes yes I will come and talk about it - DutchOma asked me to......and I've had the page open all morning trying to find the words - bear with me.....it was amazing though

DutchOma · 20/06/2011 10:20

I've said that I will if she doesn't. So we'll give her a bit more time I think....

(It was a most wonderful testimony, that's all I WILL say)

DutchOma · 20/06/2011 10:20

x post

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 20/06/2011 10:26

I don't actually know what I said in my testimony!! I'd really really struggled to work out what I would say, or rather how I would explain some stuff so I left it to the Spirit - and have no idea what I actually said!!!

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 20/06/2011 11:10

Well, it was amazing, wonderful, . Had a fiath lunch with a small number from the Baptis church, our church and Alpha. Then the service was at 2pm. DutchOma was there Smile as were people from our church, Methodist churches, and various other denominations around the town. It was SO amazing that we were all joined there in Unity under the same God.

The service was led by the Baptist Minister, our CoE Vicar and the man who co-ordinates the Alpha in our town, who attends atn Anglican church that isn't a proper Anglican church (iywim - can't remember the exact terminology LOL).

And it was just amazing

Really that's all I can muster together in written word - but DutchOma is more than welcome to expand on anything Smile

madhairday · 20/06/2011 11:13

Oooh Baroque

So glad it went well. :)

Could do with some uplifting round here at the moment. For some reason finding MN v depressing atm, I know I'm taking a break but I'm still having the odd read, just not joining in and spending hours at a time, but there is stuff really getting to me. I know I need not to...

Think it's beacuse I'm pretty ill again, so feeling weak about everything. Also stuff not good in some of my friendships here (not with me, but with a couple of them) and I feel powerless really. Need to leave certain things to Him up there, I suppose....

C'mon Baroque :)

madhairday · 20/06/2011 11:15

Cross posted - sounds wonderful...DO can we have a rundown please?

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 20/06/2011 11:20

MHD - that's part of the reason I'm not posting here anymore. MN has been a huge source of support for me in the past and I'm delighted that I have those at the core fo that support on my FB now. But MN itself was doing me more harm than good

I shall stick around on this thread for a little bit to take any questions on my Baptism - but then I'm afraid I'll be off again Smile

madhairday · 20/06/2011 11:24

Fair enough, and I do understand. I feel like it's not doing my spirit a lot of good at the moment - this and the prayer thread still are, I want to keep this support - but in general it leaves me a bit cold. Can't work out why, maybe it's a phase and I'll get back in.

So how did it feel at the moment of baptism? :)

DutchOma · 20/06/2011 12:35

I can't remember a lot about the testimony, but what struck me was that it felt like B was swept up in a gust of wind from the Spirit, starting with her being at Spring Harvest. Which she did not like at all "Get me out of here, Lord". But something happened and when her vicar mentioned that two other people from the church were being baptised, she just knew she had to be there and do it. No other reason than that. And everything else just faded away.
Lindsey, the minister at Mill Road said some incredible things about baptism which I can't remember much of. The whole service lasted about two hours, the music was very good, not loud and banging, the whole experience was totally amazing.

nickelbabe · 20/06/2011 12:40

wow, it sounds amazing.

nickelbabe · 20/06/2011 12:41

B would you be willing to write a short something about your baptism/journey to it, for my church magzine?
I can make you anonymous if you want.

(or even a little article about Srping Harvest? I don't think any of my lot have even heard of it...)
pretty pease?
l

madhairday · 20/06/2011 14:48

Good idea N...

Feeling remarkably better about MN after just having won some Grand Designs Live tickets where we get to meet Kevin McLoud - on the webchat today - still picking myself off the floor - dh will be made up! Grin

nickelbabe · 20/06/2011 14:50

ooh, well done!
