yeay! Hello Cheerful! Welcome to the thread!
You're not allowed to like Graham Kendrick, or dancy his pants off (unlike some i could mention here... Hmm ) but anything else goes! Grin

DillyDaydreaming · 23/04/2011 13:11

Thanks for the affirmations about wine.

Have also got some free tickets to a classical concert at a castle with my husband and some friends. Have asked the priest if he's like to come along for an evening off duty. Emailed him but after I sent it suddenly thought that he might not be able to accept - so hope I haven't made him feel awkward. Will try and speak to him tomorrow just to say "hope I didn't make you feel awkward/put you on the spot".
What do you all think? he's a good laugh and someone I could see as a good friend. Just wondered after though if I did the right thing. Confused.

Am off to the Easter Vigil service this evening and am trying to keep today special.

nickelbaalamb · 23/04/2011 13:34

don't worry, I'm sure they're used to having to let people down for things they think are inappropriate, or that they can't/don't want to do.
You never know, he might like the idea!

PositiveAttitude · 23/04/2011 16:43

Glad you are a little better today Madhair. Hope it continues to improve.

Welcome Cheerful. Smile

Really hot glorious day here.

I have just managed to get bleach spots on DSs school jumper, which was brand new 2 weeks before the end of term and costs an extortionate £25.00 a time!! Angry Long may the summer last, then he can wait until September for a new one. Wink

Anyone going to a sunrise service tomorrow? Ours is at the local castle, in absolutely beautiful surroundings and it is always a really special time. then home for a massive breakfast! Blush

nickelbaalamb · 23/04/2011 16:46

Shock that's ridiculously expensive!
how bad are the spots, though?
could you get away with it?

ooh, sunrise service sounds interesting.
We've just got bogstandard communion, but we're doing The Strife is O'er and This Joyful Eastertide.
(i love the Strife is O'er, but I was really rusty when we practised it last Friday, so I hope I can get away with it this week!)

MaryBS · 23/04/2011 16:51

We're having a midnight vigil, at the "baby" church in the benefice. Am feeling slightly eek, as was just dozing off on the sofa when the bishop phoned! He's never phoned me before, was just checking arrangements for tomorrow, and I was only half-awake.

Eek re: £25 for a school sweater too! :o You could try touching it up with a marker pen the same colour?

nickelbaalamb · 23/04/2011 16:55

Your life sounds so exotic, Mary, talking to the Bishop Grin

MadHairyMilkEggonEasterDay · 23/04/2011 17:00

We have a sonrise service at church followed by cooked brekiie. dh and dd will def go but not sure about me and ds, I'm not so well and ds lazy Grin

PositiveAttitude · 23/04/2011 17:05

Bet you woke up quickly when you realised who it was Mary Grin

I am not too sure about how noticeable spots are. Just waiting for the jumper to come out the washing machine and will inspect. He is in year 10, so will only have a year left. WHen I bought the jumper I also bought a blazer as his last one ever because they are £50 and I wanted him to get as much wear out of it as possible. (Stupid school have different blazers for boys and girls, so I cant pass them down to DD4!)

DutchOma · 23/04/2011 17:41

We have Easter breakfast with communion included, but we won't go as Bob can't last that long. Then we have the main service with five baptisms and the Hallelujah chorus, so I need to be in church for the practice at 9.45. Bob will come later by taxi.

CheerfulYank · 23/04/2011 17:45

I don't know who Graham Kendrick is, so I have no strong feelings toward him one way or the other :)

We don't have a church yet so we aren't doing anything for Easter. :( Well, we're going to visit family, but that's all.

Nickel I had to laugh at you holding the cross. Poor you!

CheerfulYank · 23/04/2011 17:47

Have googled him. Meh :)

thanksamillion · 23/04/2011 18:00

Hello all, I've been lurking a bit and catching up so just thought I'd say Hi!

Our service tomorrow starts at 9 instead of 10 because we have to finish by 12 and the normal two hours won't be long enough Shock. DD has a poem to say which I have managed to teach her very badly. I tried writing it out so she could learn it with her good accent rather than my bad one, but it's still not right. If anyone knows how to learn to roll Rs please tell me now!

How's your knee Mary? and sorry to hear you're having to stay in MHD. At least you've got MN for company Grin

MaryBS · 23/04/2011 22:32

Knee is a bit swollen, but doing OK thanks.

Yes, having the bishop on the phone does tend to wake you up a bit! Although my mind wasn't functioning fully and he started chucking all these questions at me about arrangements for tomorrow! :)

MadHairyMilkEggonEasterDay · 24/04/2011 12:49

Happy Easter everyone! Christ is Risen! I love Easter Sunday :) :)

Hello milly, good to see you
Mary hope your knee is better today.

Just back from Easter service - was nice - I still struggle with the traditional service and wanted a big huge celebratory thing with loud music etc (sorry nickel Grin ) but I felt close to God nevertheless - had to make a decision to do that despite my preferences - not easy sometimes. Lovely feel to it though :)

DutchOma · 24/04/2011 13:33

You might have liked our MHD it was certainly loud. But oh, how I loathe "the greatest day in history" with its yeah, yeah, yeahs, closely followed by "How great is our God", both of which we had today. Fortunately we also had a lot of traditional hymns and finished the service with the Hallelujah chorus. We had to wait singing that till the end of the service as our pianist was taking a service elsewhere. [bugrin]

MHDateallthechocolate · 24/04/2011 13:42

Oh I'm sorry DO but they are two of my faves, but where in Happy Day do you do lots of 'yeahs?' Grin

Different strokes and all that. Both of those mean a lot to me and remind me of times I've had deep encounters with God. :)

DutchOma · 24/04/2011 13:56

It comes at the end. At least in our version. I had a look at the lyrics and it wasn't there. Oh well.
I gather that they may be favourites of most people, it was certainly sung with gusto in church this morning.
It is a good thing that we have different styles of worship in one service and we don't all like the same thing

DillyDaydreaming · 24/04/2011 14:04

Happy Easter to you all. Christ has risen and is now the leading light in my life. Next year at the Easter Vigil I will be confirmed into the Catholic church.
On Good Friday just gone, after the service I stayed behind to pray. In that time I committed myself to God and formally ( in my own mind) invited Jesus into my life. It feels so right.

DutchOma · 24/04/2011 14:07

Things certainly fell into place for our five baptismal candidates this morning.
Very happy for you Milly

MHDateallthechocolate · 24/04/2011 16:09

That's absolutely fantastic Dilly :) Thrilled for you!

blackeyedsusan · 24/04/2011 16:31

ha dutch , i have found you... i usually don't like songs with yeah yeah in either.

happy easter..

blackeyedsusan · 24/04/2011 16:45

middlemarch hello, not a member of the sa, but do attend occasionally as it is where ds goes to mums and tots and is one of the closest. have considered it as an option if i need to jump ship and find somewhere closer. what are they like?

blackeyedsusan · 24/04/2011 16:48

stupid question nickel but why couldn't you put it down?

MaryBS · 24/04/2011 19:14

We had a WONDERFULLY sublime Easter Sunday service, celebrated by our suffragan bishop :). I was really touched he asked me to read the gospel, as I find it really poignant when Mary says "they have taken away my Lord and I don't know where they have put him". I really feel her pain. And then when she says "Rabbouni", my heart melts!

The Easter Vigil on the other hand, I really DON'T want to talk about... suffice it to say it would not be out of place in an episode of Rev :(. It would be funny if it weren't so sad, IYKWIM.
