Next door caused that much fuss about our puppy last year climbing through the fence and doing his business in their garden and more to the point refusing to fix the shared fence so he couldn't do it, that we rehomed him.
It wasn't the only reason by far but if he'd been able to play in the garden plenty of other issues would have been easier to live with to say the least.
Well they have just informed me they are getting a new dog, not just that but one that grows to 68kg's and poo's like an elephant.
Am so cross they are either going to fix the fence when it suits them to have an animal or think that they are going to inflict the dog on us when our children had to loose theirs

You got rid of a dog because it kept getting into next door's garden? Couldn't you have fixed the fence?

Missus84 · 16/04/2010 21:07

Why didn't you fix the fence? Seems a very odd reason to get rid of your dog.

Alouiseg · 16/04/2010 21:08

Shared fence! If it was your dog you should have fixed it. I expect that they will fix it now they have a dog.

thisisyesterday · 16/04/2010 21:14

agree with others. you could have fixed the fence. it was your dog getting into their garden after all

or maybe YOU will fix the fence? after all, you expected them to do it for your dog so clearly the reverse applies now. you fix it for them

liath · 16/04/2010 21:35

Eh?

bruxeur · 16/04/2010 21:37

Agree with tiy. Clearly you are now cross because you have a fence to fix, and you're going to waste a lovely weekend doing so.

paisleyleaf · 16/04/2010 21:40

Sometimes when you get a pet, you need to make adjustments to your home. Like securing a fence . Why would that have been down to the neighbours when it was your dog?

GypsyMoth · 16/04/2010 21:40

why did you really get rid of the puppy?? bit lame blaming the neighbours when it would take a bit if wood/nails to fix the problem!!

DrivenToDistraction · 16/04/2010 21:41

YABVVU. that you rehomed your puppy in preference to fixing the shared fence.

PersonalClown · 16/04/2010 21:43

I have a shared fence with my neighbour and adorable little bastard puppychops tries to escape so I am fixing the fence.

My puppy, my responsibility to keep him safe and not let him terrorize the neighbours.

thehillsarealive · 16/04/2010 21:45

oh for heavens sake! you know, i cant even be bothered to flame you for this nonsense.

Sure plenty of others will (and have)

FiveGoMadInDorset · 16/04/2010 21:46

Why couldn't you have fixed the fence?

Missus84 · 16/04/2010 21:47

There must be a lot more to this story - hope the OP can come back and explain?

MillyMollyMoo · 16/04/2010 22:00

We can't/couldn't fix the fence, we can't afford it that simple cost £2k and we don't have it, he drove the neighbours nuts going in their garden.
But now it suits them, it's either getting fixed or there's will drive us nuts.
Am not happy.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 16/04/2010 22:02

Sorry £2k to fix a fence

thisisyesterday · 16/04/2010 22:02

£2k to fix a fence?? is it made of gold???

MillyMollyMoo · 16/04/2010 22:03

No it's a big fence.
The thing is they won't fix it either and that's what's pissing me off. I was expected to "deal" with our puppy but they will have exactly the same problem only their dog will be three times the size.

OP posts:
Missus84 · 16/04/2010 22:06

Couldn't you have just fenced off an area of your garden for the dog though?

Missus84 · 16/04/2010 22:08

If they allow their dog to shit in your garden, then they are totally unreasonable btw.

If they fix the fence for their dog, then that seems reasonable to me.

MillyMollyMoo · 16/04/2010 22:08

Not being funny but if we could of then yes we would, it really wasn't an option to let him outside at all unless he was tethered which I wasn't prepared to do in case he hurt himself.
The dog has gone to a brilliant home and is well and happy but of course my children miss terribly and just to rub the salt in the wound next door will not have their dog, it just seems so unfair.

twinkerbell · 16/04/2010 22:08

bloody fences, bloody dogs!
we spent over £150 fixing the fence on the right (as you look out the back garden) after being told it that was our side of responsibility.Next door neighbours on the OTHER side has a lovely dog but every time our cats go in the back garden he barks and jumps up at the fence and has basically ruined it, bloody great hole in 2 of the panels now and boarded up badly.THAT neighbour says THAT side is our responsiblity and even though HIS dog has wrecked it we need to pay for that to be fixed aswell!

DrivenToDistraction · 16/04/2010 22:30

But why couldn't you fix the fence?

MillyMollyMoo · 16/04/2010 22:32

Because I don't have £2,000, we got three quotes, that was the cheapest.
Full stop.

OP posts:
ChickensHaveSinisterMotives · 16/04/2010 22:34

Doesn't cost £2k to put up some wire fencing.

thisisyesterday · 16/04/2010 22:34

i'd have just got some cheapy fence panels from b&q and put one up myself! or some wire fencing or something

your dog, your responsibility. sorry
