DH & I called into a pub for lunch yesterday (not local) & 2 women sat eating lunch on next table when we arrived. The women had a small dog with them & one of them kept the dog on her knee whilst she was eating. When she finished her main course she starting telling the dog how handsome he was (cute, we do this with our dog) & then said come on, mummy will take you for a wee. I obviously expected her to take the dog outside but instead she took the dog into the ladies toilet!!! She came out a few minutes later then with the dog still sitting on her knee ate her desert as though nothing had happened!
Please tell me this isn’t normal? DH said they were talking to the landlord & were definitely locals so he obviously doesn’t have an issue with the dog piddling in the ladies toilet.
We’re both disgusted by this. Love our Westie & take him to our local pub frequently where he sits under or next to the table & is walked regularly for toilet breaks.
DH is thinking of emailing the pub to complain 🤷‍♀️

shellyleppard · Yesterday 09:05

Nope that's just gross 🤢 unless she took him outside before she went to the ladies?? Otherwise....🤢🤢🤢

PashaMinaMio · Yesterday 09:06

Actually perhaps she meant it was her going to do a wee? I kind of collective we wee!

Additup · Yesterday 09:06

🤣🤣🤣🤣 I think she just meant to she was going for a wee and she just took the dog with her!!!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣not that deep.

Dearg · Yesterday 09:30

My dog comes with me regularly , but only to supervise. She definitely doesn’t use the indoor facilities .

dizzydizzydizzy · Yesterday 09:31

Probably PPs are right - the woman went for a wee and took the dog with her. HOWEVER, I am autistic and take things literally. I was assuming the woman held her pet over the loo and it weed in
tbe loo. I know nothing about dogs. Is this possible????

RedThroatedWarbler · Yesterday 09:35

I assume it was her using the loo, not the dog.

Even if it was the dog, I am not sure I see an issue. What exactly is worse about the dog being taken into the loo than it being at a dining table?

WhatATimeToBeAlive · Yesterday 09:37

Sounds like a well trained dog if it can use the loo 😂

Soubriquet · Yesterday 09:41

Even if the dog was trained to go in the toilet, does it matter?!

It didn’t pee on the floor.

AnyDog · Yesterday 09:46

I don’t understand how you would jump to ‘her dog used the ladies toilet’, rather than the woman just took her dog with her whilst she used the toilet herself….if this even happened of course. People do like to tell tall tales about dogs on here.

This was my assumption too.

Charlenedickens · Yesterday 10:14

I suspect she meant she was going for a wee, not the dog,

Charlenedickens · Yesterday 10:19

Also please don’t complain, you will be the laughing stock of the pub that they will tell tales about for time immemorial.

I think most people would assume she used the ladies, and took the dog with her, not she held the dog over the loo and it peed on command 😂

HatethedarknightsQW · Yesterday 10:20

Our female dog loves to follow DH into the loo if we are out on a walk, or at home to be honest. I suspect it was her going to the loo and the dog going with her.

Skybluecoat · Yesterday 10:32

Why shouldn’t she take the dog to the loo with her? My cat is my bathroom attendant and does a sterling job of supervising.

What is there to complain about? Even if the dog did a wee down the loo while she was there, so what? I don’t get it?

Then she would have left the dog with the OP. Very OTT with dog even for a dog lover.
Why take your dog into public toilets anyway?

Not necessarily. I would only leave my dog with a very small number of people in that scenario because she can be tricky and nervous. She’s fine with me because she is much more confident in my presence. So if I was out and needed the toilet she would most likely be coming with me even if there were other people with me.

sittingonabeach · Yesterday 10:49

Maybe the other person doesn’t like dogs. If the woman had the dog on her knee all the time maybe the dog is nervous and has separation anxiety or similar and needs to be close to the woman

Our dog didn’t like it if he came out with us as a family group or couple and one of us then disappeared, say to the loo or bar (if sitting outside in the pub garden) and would get agitated until we were all back together again

ginasevern · Yesterday 10:54

I assume she meant that she was going for a wee and she just took the dog with her. Maybe it yaps when she's out of sight - little dogs tend to be yappy. It's a bit of a stretch to assume the dog peed on the toilet floor and I can't imagine any landlord allowing it. I've never in my life encountered that scenario. Unless it was a really rough and weird dive of a place, I think you've very much got the wrong end of the stick OP!

larouxsauce · Yesterday 10:54

Yes she took the dog with her while she went for a wee. Perhaps she also took it outside so it could have a wee too. I highly doubt she is holding it above the toilet and training it to piss like a human. Think you’ve got your wires crossed here.

Tryagain26 · Yesterday 11:03

Why do some people treat their dogs as though they are human beings? I just don't understand.
She is not the dogs mummy she is the dog's owner. The dog's mother is another dog.
I like dogs but they should be treated like dogs not human children. However much someone may love them they are pets. It's not good for the dog or the owner for dogs to be anthropomorphised. Sitting them in your knee when eating and taking them to the ladies toilet is ridiculous.

Some dogs bark like idiots when their favoured person goes to the toilet for fear that they are being abandoned forever - ask me how I know! I don't take my particular idiot in though, if I'm with someone they take him outside if he's barking and annoying people. If it was a puppy then I'd assume it was just coming along to gaze intently at her and lick her knees (again...ask me how I know)

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · Yesterday 11:06

I once knew a cat who had taught herself to use the downstairs lavatory indoors. She didn't like rain, and she used to balance herself across the rim of the loo and pee into it if there was what she regarded as nasty wet stuff coming out of the sky outside. She used the uncivilised downstairs loo near the back door of the farmhouse; it was the one the men used if they came in from the yard and didn't want to take off their boots and overalls, and the seat was always left up. If it wasn't up she would come and complain!

The first time someone went in and found her doing it he was very surprised, and nobody believed him, but she was seen several times.

I'm guessing it was a puppy too young to put paws on the floor pre-vaccinations? We took ours out and carried him around before he was twelve weeks old and allowed to be on the ground in public places.
