DH & I called into a pub for lunch yesterday (not local) & 2 women sat eating lunch on next table when we arrived. The women had a small dog with them & one of them kept the dog on her knee whilst she was eating. When she finished her main course she starting telling the dog how handsome he was (cute, we do this with our dog) & then said come on, mummy will take you for a wee. I obviously expected her to take the dog outside but instead she took the dog into the ladies toilet!!! She came out a few minutes later then with the dog still sitting on her knee ate her desert as though nothing had happened!
Please tell me this isn’t normal? DH said they were talking to the landlord & were definitely locals so he obviously doesn’t have an issue with the dog piddling in the ladies toilet.
We’re both disgusted by this. Love our Westie & take him to our local pub frequently where he sits under or next to the table & is walked regularly for toilet breaks.
DH is thinking of emailing the pub to complain 🤷‍♀️

Why do some people treat their dogs as though they are human beings? I just don't understand.
She is not the dogs mummy she is the dog's owner. The dog's mother is another dog.
I like dogs but they should be treated like dogs not human children. However much someone may love them they are pets. It's not good for the dog or the owner for dogs to be anthropomorphised. Sitting them in your knee when eating and taking them to the ladies toilet is ridiculous.

Oh give it a rest. I refer to myself as mummy when addressing my cats.
I think we can pretty much work out that the woman didnt actually give birth to her dog 🤣🤣🤣

Then she would have left the dog with the OP. Very OTT with dog even for a dog lover.
Why take your dog into public toilets anyway?

You’re asking me like I was the woman that did it. There actually could be a few reasons why, which I believe some people have already answered. I think your reaction is a little OTT tbh. Making a complaint? Seriously? Let it go. EVEN IF she did what you assumed, what is actually the difference between the dog being at the table in a pub (which in my opinion is so much worse) than in the bathroom?

Probably PPs are right - the woman went for a wee and took the dog with her. HOWEVER, I am autistic and take things literally. I was assuming the woman held her pet over the loo and it weed in
tbe loo. I know nothing about dogs. Is this possible????

I'm not autistic and read as the woman took her dog into the ladies toilets and let it "cock a leg" in there 🤢

Hope I'm wrong but there's definitely room to wonder.

SirChenjins · Yesterday 11:30

I'm pretty sure she took the dog with her while she went for a wee, you daftie! ChenDog is a menace if we're out somewhere and I leave him with anyone else to go for a wee, even friends he's happily spent the day with, and would have howled and whined until I got back. Sounds like she was trying to save your respective eardrums.

Exactly, DCat is mummy's favourite furball in our house 😂😂😂

Nope, I’d take my dog to the toilet before leaving them with a friend in a public place.

But my dog is a bit of a nightmare so I wouldn’t generally take her to a cafe with a friend, but is happened once or twice unplanned before now.

BriarTime · Yesterday 11:53

Totally unacceptable. He should have gone to the gents’.

People are weird about their pets. She took it to the ladies with her because she doesn’t want to leave it with the other person. If it was a sausage dog they are notoriously needy and clingy. I very much doubt the dog used the ladies!

Had to edit my response because I read your response completely differently the first time around. Yes exactly, leaving your dog with another unfamiliar person is very irresponsible as a dog owner if they’re difficult in anyway.

How do you know he doesn’t self identify as female?

<<Throws down the gauntlet>> 😆

MagicMelanie · Yesterday 12:06

Maybe she went for a wee and took the dog with her? I say let's go for a wee to our cat as she trots into the bathroom with me but i'm the only one weeing in there

Yeah, my friend has a small dog that sits under the table at the pub. It's fine while she's there but kicks up a right kerfuffle if she goes to the loo. It has to go with her. No way I'm sitting there embarrassed white it yaps its arse off.

😂 You get your kicks by sticking your head into the nearest old man pub, shouting ‘Brexit!’, then running away, don’t you?

You would if it goes nuts when its owner disappears for however short a time.
My friend takes her dog to the loo for this very reason.

I’m glad someone said it…I mean it’s the most logical thing isn’t it

Can I be your friend - I’ll buy the drinks if you promise to do fun shit like this where locals can hear you 😆

MagicMelanie · Yesterday 12:11

if this even happened of course. People do like to tell tall tales about dogs on here

I may be one of the people who regularly complain about dogs, but in this instance it seems blazingly obvious that the woman was going for a pee and took the dog with her. Anything else wouldn't have entered my mind.

"Very OTT"... I completely agree with you! But try telling that to my 2 creepers who follow me to the bathroom, put their paws up on my knees if I'm on the toilet, or stare up at me while I'm showering. If I don't let them follow me, they'll either scratch/bash on the door, and/or sit outside the door and yell at me. They're completely obsessed with me.
If I was out in a public place, no way in the world would they be ok if I walked away from them.

Ha no worries! I can read my dog really well and know exactly what will make her react, how to de escalate and how to advocate for her so she isn’t approached by others. With all of that she’s fine in a public place but I’m stressed 😂 I’d never put that on anyone else!

Autumnishere1 · Yesterday 12:24

OMG don't email the pub you will sound ridiculous ! Most of us have come to the conclusion that the lady needed to use the toilet, not the dog 🤣

LowlandLucky · Yesterday 12:31

Both my dog and cat often accompany me to the loo, neither takes advantage of the facilities.
Maybe the ladies dining campion refuses to look after the dog even for a moment, the dog gets upset if she leaves him or she really does think he is a baby and has to take himwherever she goes.

Not necessarily, some dogs can’t be left, there is no issue with her taking it into the loo with her.

you seem intent on finding an issue here, I’d say it was fairly obvious the dog didn’t actually go and relieve themselves in the ladies and I’m a little gobsmacked you thought that, but the other person may not have wished to look after the dog, or the dog may have made a lot of noise when she was away so she took it to avoid that,
