How to tell what the gender is of a cat

I've just bought a 6 month old kitten previous owner told me it was a boy but the cat is acting like it's on heat.... if I post a picture would anyone be able to tell me the cat is booked in at the vets the 4th January...

I have no issue with your choice of words. I was merely noticing how quickly a couple of previous posters chose to raise this.

We used to breed kitties so I've seen my fair share of boy & girl ''bottoms'' !

Difficult to be 100% sure from the pictures, but looks like a little boy to me. The testicles aren't always ''pronounced'' at 6 months... That said are you sure your kitten is 6 months old? Looks young to me.

With girls the openings are very close together, almost touching & the vagina looks like a slit in a tear drop.

With boys, the openings are further apart and the male genitalia all contained in a ''roundish'' area when they are little. There tends to be some fur between the anus and genitalia area which eventually fills out with the testicles.

p.s. if the coat is a mix 3 colours like browns, golds, gingers etc it's almost always a girl. If it's all ginger, it's generally a boy - but not always - our ginger queen had an all ginger litter once of 5 kittens - only 2 were boys!

It's female. Don't let your cat outside until after she has been spayed, or she will get pregnant

I agree that from the back end photos she seems to be a she but colouring/face I would 100% assume a he.

I once had a ginger girly. Rare and lovely.

Glad she's with a family now who will look after her. I hope she's not too wild with it while you're awaiting the vet. X

Given the absence of a pair of furry pompoms, which would definitely be noticeable at six months, that is a female kitty. And a very striking looking one, too.
