Can somebody tell if a dog has been present in this vehicle

Hi All, I have seen a few cars and only looking at the bwm gran tourer and it seem alot of them have had dogs inside them due to it being a estate. I saw this one and it's seems the dealer has done a good job cleaning the vehicle couldn't see any dog hair in the vehicle and it decent priced. But I noticed this marks on the carpet roof, there are some stain marks and black marks so I assume this is from a dog? Any dog owners can you confirm pls attached is a pic. I guess If I had not had seen this mark I would have bought the vehicle already.

Do you have a very very severe allergy? Unless it is near anaphylaxis level, surely as long as the car has been thoroughly valeted you would be okay?

Can’t really see in your pic but stains could easily be from moving furniture or garden waste or something. I wouldn’t expect a dog to stain the roof!

Normally you can tell by the smell. Have a good sniff of the upholstery.
Those marks could have been from moving furniture or anything.

My dog is a bit small to get up that high but I'd say that is could be a dog but could also be a gazillion other things. A lot of the marks in my car are due to not measuring furniture in advance...

Are you allergic?

Ive owned dogs and also have these marks in my boot, but they are from me wedging stuff in the boot for tip runs and not from my dogs.

Wouldn’t it be a bit high for dog paws? I do see the marks but I think more likely lifting something in and out regularly eg bikes, buggy, dog cage. Could you ask for a reduction in price or more comprehensive valet?

There have never been any dogs in my car and it is covered in stains and marks. I am allergic to dogs but that car looks very clean and unless one had been rolling around in the drivers seat I am not sure it would be a problem.

Surely if you're contemplating buying a second hand car then you risk the fact there may or may not have been a dog in there at some point???

A car may be filthy and have never had a dog in (mine, just messy toddlers)

Or a car can be extremely clean and have had several dogs in and it's just been cleaned well so you won't know?

If you were me you'd be able to smell it. Check the outside boot for scratches.

Why does it matter so desperately? Unless you have a super severe allergy then if you like the car why not buy it?

FYI my car has marks like that from Christmas trees and a table top. The dogs are much cleaner than either of those!

Thanks for the replys.just for interest I have attached a better picture of the marks and stains. I will never know what that mark is, the dealer has now cleaned it. So going tomorrow to do a smell test, I guess I'm looking for something abnormal. I'm not allergic but I'd rather buy a clean car with no surprises if spending our hard earned money, hope that doesn't sound silly. Reason being we bought our first house together after getting married and the previous owner had a large dog, we had to get various bit repaired and cleaned multiple times because of this dog and hair everywhere.

A car is not a house though. If it's clean and you can't tell if it's had a dog in it then there won't be any hidden issues. There's nowhere in the inside of a car that could be damaged by dogs and not noticed by a buyer.

Plus, as people have said, surely babies and children could have done as much to a car as dogs could have done?

The car is clean. The marks are stains. Barely noticeable in your pictures and certainly not identifiable.

Buy your car based on its suitability not some minor stains under the boot door Hmm

I'm not convinced that needing forensic level tests on stains in otherwise clean cars is particularly healthy OP. What possible hidden surprise issue are you worried about surfacing exactly?

If you can't tell that there's been a dog in there then you don't need to clean up the signs of a dog! I think the phrase "get a grip" will work here
