Hi All, I have seen a few cars and only looking at the bwm gran tourer and it seem alot of them have had dogs inside them due to it being a estate. I saw this one and it's seems the dealer has done a good job cleaning the vehicle couldn't see any dog hair in the vehicle and it decent priced. But I noticed this marks on the carpet roof, there are some stain marks and black marks so I assume this is from a dog? Any dog owners can you confirm pls attached is a pic. I guess If I had not had seen this mark I would have bought the vehicle already.

@twinklestar01 As a Labrador owner - so not a tiny dog- I can confirm there is nothing on earth she can do to make a mark like that on the internal roof. Is it a mark? A reflection? Poor lighting?

Go and see it in person but I can’t see how a dog could make a mark up there, they jump into the boot and sit with all paws on the floor, it would be a difficult position for them to get their paws up there (their nose/head would be squashed against the glass!) and a nose wouldn’t make a mark.

I wouldn’t buy a car that smelt of stinking cigarette smoke so I sort of understand where your coming from.

TheBrilloPad · 06/04/2019 22:42

I have almost identical marks there on my car from putting the buggy in and out. The wheels always bash it there when I put the buggy in sideways to make room for other stuff

twinklestar01 · 06/04/2019 22:43

@Bringbackthestripes. seems ppl think to seem I'm mad and stiff glue but anyways Hmm. We actually saw the car and were very happy with the milage, service history and body condition and it was a defo stain, and it had some marks there

Do you have access to a black light?

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 06/04/2019 22:47

Only on Mumsnet Confused

FunkySnidge · 06/04/2019 22:47

This is quite funny.

What are you actually worried about?

The marks themselves?

Or the thought there could maybe have been a dog in the car?

If you like the car, pay to get the marks out and you will never need know the truth about the dogs of the past...

Treefloof · 06/04/2019 22:55

Ooookkkkay
I have dogs plural, no way could they stain the roof lining and they is big doggos.

But as responsible pet owners we put blankets and towels down wherever they may put paws and so far no stains.
Plus there's this stuff we have that gets rid of all kinds of dog related stains. Bloody pricey but works well. Some dr beckmann stuff dunno what its called not used in a year.

Ginger1982 · 06/04/2019 23:11

This is so odd.

Katterinaballerina · 06/04/2019 23:18

As long as the dog hasn’t been doing the servicing ...

AutumnCrow · 06/04/2019 23:21

Luminol is your friend

ILoveMaxiBondi · 06/04/2019 23:23

This is very weird.

If you can’t see any signs of a dog then there won’t be any “surprises”. Because you would already see them.

If the car is clean, it’s clean.

You’ll get more “surprises” from having children in the car than a dog IME.

LarryGreysonsDoor · 06/04/2019 23:24

So if your worry is the stain not an allergy to dogs then what does it matter what caused the stain?

You can’t buy a second had car and expect it to be perfect.

DrWhy · 06/04/2019 23:24

I bought a second hand car that looked and smelt immaculate - until the first time it rained when the car had a serious whiff of damp dog! We’ve owned it over 3 years now and this thread has just reminded me that it don’t think it smells anymore - did takes months and possibly years to fade though. So maybe test drive it in the rain!!

FelicisWolf · 06/04/2019 23:27

By the looks of the fabric of that boot, if there had been a dog then either there would be evidence of a few hairs still stuck in there, or it has been VERY well cleaned. Either way surely you'll be fine? Those marks (that I can't really even see tbh) I don't think are evidence of a dog or otherwise - just that the car has been used

Runkle · 06/04/2019 23:28

Stiff glue Grin
Can you log it with 101?

troppibambini · 06/04/2019 23:32

Yes I recognise those markings definitely a German Shepherd you can tell by the slightly larger second toe on the left paw mark.

FelicisWolf · 06/04/2019 23:33

And I agree with pp - YABU Grin

JustHereForThePooStories · 06/04/2019 23:34

Maybe commission some labrador tests?

Runkle · 06/04/2019 23:37

Watch out, Beagle's about.

MitziK · 06/04/2019 23:45

Looks more like a bloke with dirty hands touched it when putting something into the boot. Like when changing a wheel.

breadzeb · 07/04/2019 00:37

Watch out, Beagle's about.

That was a tea spitting comment if ever I read one GrinGrinGrin

Absolutepowercorrupts · 07/04/2019 00:45

Maybe you could get a cat scan, that would tell you, if the cat shrieked and ran away then there probably had been a dog in there. Or as ppp suggested get a Lab report.

Onetwistedangel · 07/04/2019 00:46

This thread has me in stitches! You be you OP I bet you are hilarious to be around... not in a fun way but in a 'are you actually for real?!' way Grin

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 07/04/2019 03:23

If you're not allergic then this sounds a bit bonkers. As does the house thing tbh. Surely in the grand scheme of moving expenses, paying for a deep clean is not huge.

If it worries you this much I think the answer is a new car.

Orchidflower1 · 07/04/2019 14:43

Tbh op as I said further up the thread I do see the marks and that should be taken into account with the price.

However if you’re buying a second hand car it never going to as new no matter how top notch the valet. People with have done their shopping, been to work, outing and picnics and possible had sicky kids or even ( whisper it) sex in the car so as long as it’s cleaned it will look ok but will never ever be new.

Perhaps you’d prefer a newer but different model of car for the same price.

Safe driving whatever you decide.
