This petition is calling for a public inquiry into alleged pro-Israel influence in UK politics.

If this is something you feel strongly about, you may want to look at the petition.

Petition: Call a public inquiry into pro-Israel influence on politics & democracy

We are concerned about reported Israeli state-linked and pro-Israel lobbying activity in UK politics. We believe it is important to determine the scope and impact of any such influence campaigns.

Really?? I observe a distinct bias against Israel from sections of the mainstream media particularly the BBC and also from our current government.

@Marylou2 , absolutely but try explaining that to an antisemite.

Agree.

I appreciate that views on media and government bias vary widely.

My reason for sharing wasn’t to argue about media coverage but to raise the question of transparency and accountability around political lobbying.

How about a public inquiry into the influence of big pharma, big tech and multibillion pound companies on politics and democracy? Why concentrate on Israel? For a small country they really get a lot of heat! Funny that, almost as if we have a massive antisemitism problem.

Inauthentic · 18/02/2026 21:36

I’m not trying to provoke anyone. I’ve said why I shared it. I won’t derail the thread further.

I think an enquiry into Russian and Chinese influence into British politics in the last few years might yield more results. Their bot forms are second to none. I can't see anything Israel has done on anything of the same scale?. If you want to start a petition, I think the other 2 are much more of a threat than Israel.

I would support an enquiry into anti Israeli , pro hamas bias in news and media.

Bergmum · 18/02/2026 22:00

Seriously???
There were councillors standing for election with their main focus being their pro Palestinian stance and we have a problem with pro Israel in government?!

HermioneWeasley · 18/02/2026 22:02

If there’s a sinister cable of pro Israel influence they’re doing a piss poor job.

Exactly.

Who are the UK's five pro-Palestinian independent MPs?

British voters elected five pro-Palestinian independent MPs last week in a surprise result.

The lawmakers were all endorsed by The Muslim Vote, a campaign group that mobilised the Muslim community around candidates outside the Labour and Conservative parties.

Muslim Vote coordinator Abubakr Nanabawa told The New Arab last week that it was a "historic moment".

It had been clear during the election campaign that Palestine was a key issue for some voters, though the number of independents elected still came as a shock to some.

Jeremy Corbyn - On election day, he said that Palestine was "on the ballot".
"If you re-elect me as an independent MP in Islington North, I promise to always stand up for the people of Gaza, and for the only path to a just and lasting peace: an end to the occupation of Palestine," he added.

Adnan Hussain - There had been concerns the pro-Palestinian vote in opposition to Labour would be split, with Workers Party of Britain candidate Craig Murray also running in the constituency.

Shockat Adam - "This is for the people of Gaza," he said, raising a Palestinian keffiyeh scarf.

Ayoub Khan - According to local media in Birmingham, Khan quit the Liberal Democrats after he said he was told he could only be the MP for Perry Barr if he agreed to be silent and "hush up" over Gaza.

Iqbal Mohamed He said he was victorious in the seat not only given his position on Gaza but because of "combination of several things", the BBC reported.
"The people have woken up. They are now looking at what these parties and previous politicians have or have not done and they are making informed decisions," he told Muslim media outlet Hyphen.

BBC article posted 5th July 2024: Labour has lost a handful of former strongholds to independent candidates campaigning on pro-Gaza platforms.

In one of the biggest shocks of the night, shadow minister Jonathan Ashworth lost his Leicester South seat, which had a majority of more than 22,000.

The party's vote is down on average by 23 points in seats where 20% or more of the population identify as Muslim.

In Ilford North, shadow health secretary Wes Streeting was among those who saw his majority slashed - from more than 9,000 to 528.

Overall it was a spectacular night for Labour, with the party winning a landslide victory.

However, in areas with a high proportion of Muslim voters the party performed badly.

Labour has lost five seats with large Muslim populations - four to independents and one to the Conservatives.

In Birmingham Ladywood, shadow justice secretary Shabana Mahmood held off a challenge from independent candidate and lawyer Akhmed Yakoob, who has a large following on TikTok.

However, her majority fell from more than 32,000 to 3,421.

Similarly Jess Phillips, who quit the Labour frontbench to vote for a Gaza ceasefire in Parliament last year, also saw her majority slashed from 13,141 to just 693.

At his own count, Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer faced heckles of "Free Palestine" and saw his majority cut, with pro-Gaza independent Andrew Feinsten coming second with 7,312 votes.

We had Caroline Lucas standing in a Manchester market this week calling on people to vote Green in the LOCAL elections because Gaza oh and a local issue or two.

Can you link the petition about Qatari influence please? Im sure there is one? Just recently it was disclosed that Qatar had been funding US universities to the tune of 62 billion USD.

Here is Policy Exchange's 2022 report on Qatari influence Source: Policy Exchange https://share.google/aSuPS5gAJ9UwsoLAK

Latest figures show Qatar investment in UK amounts to 40bn while Israeli investment is 14bn. The Saudis investment even more that Qatar - around 60bn and other countries ahead of Israel include UAE.

Dilbertian · 19/02/2026 07:42

Maybe there should be a public enquiry into ‘pro-Israel’ influence on news and media. Not forgetting, of course, ‘pro-Israel’ influence on worldwide banking.

Then you could fill a whole row in your anti-Semitic bingo card.

Disgusting.

No doubt this thread will soon be zapped , and then people will be saying that they never see any anti-Semitic.

EmpressOfTheThread · 19/02/2026 07:56

You want transparency and accountability? Really? Or just to shut down any pro Israel voices? They're pretty much swamped anyway in the UK.

dairydebris · 19/02/2026 08:03

A self compiled list of antisemites. How embarrassing.

I don't think that this is a crazy idea at a time when a pro Israel lobby group are claiming that the governments unlawful proscription of a group was as a 'direct result' of their lobbying. Why are the British government acting unlawfully in a way that restricts according to the judges free speech and the right to protest of UK citizens at the direction of a lobby group? If it were a Qatari lobby group that were claiming responsibility for unlawfully curtailing free speech and protest in the UK people would have a hell of a lot to say about it, why not when it's a pro Israel one?

SharonEllis · 19/02/2026 10:49

No, you're right I'm sure there is absolutely no untoward motivation behind the relentless, persistent, disproportionate obsession with finding something sinister in whatever the world's only Jewish state does. Nothing at all. Nothing to see here.
