Who is behind this undermining of democracy?

Which foreign actors have a history of influencing UK politics?

If there was another election, what is the likely outcome?

Why do you think this petition would change things for the better?

12345mummy · 24/11/2024 08:19

The cost of another general election would cost hundreds of millions. Money that could probably save the NHS.

Completelyjo · 24/11/2024 08:19

Oh for god sake we’ve just had a general election. Give over.

Zonder · 24/11/2024 08:19

Do bear in mind the person who posted this petition didn't actually bother to vote in the recent election so isn't really taking part in democracy.

CherryVanillaPie · 24/11/2024 08:21

The Tories trashed the economy with Brexit. Got us into severe debt. Trashed public services.

Exactly. Whatever side of the political eisle you are on, we all benefit from a competent government and a strong opposition.

I can't even remember the last time we had that!

Petitions are always important, even if they don't change anything at the time. They enable voters to express their unhappiness.

Exactly. I've signed.

MeanderingGently · 24/11/2024 08:23

We don't want or need another general election.
And what's more, if we did have one, I wouldn't be voting for Kemi B, even though I'm normally a conservative voter. So actually, if we had an election tomorrow I'd be voting Labour even though I've never, ever voted for them before in my life.....

MikeRafone · 24/11/2024 08:23

There has been a 48% rise on returning asylum seekers in 2024, curiously no headline news prints on this…

IkeaJesusChrist · 24/11/2024 08:24

Oh bless.

Like Farage once said, you can't keep running a poll until you get your desired result.

Aduvetday · 24/11/2024 08:24

People are so obsessed with taking from others. They’ve missed the point. The private sector, the one funding everything has shrunk. The private sector are predicting huge job losses. Meanwhile the ‘Get Britain Working’ white paper is out next week. That’s targetting the huge and bloated welfare state we can’t afford. People out of work, on long term sick, mental health support, top-ups. You’re next. More sanctions incoming. It needs doing as it’s out of control but I think people are deluded if they think it’s going towards state/welfare. The private sector is shrinking so those will have to as well.

Bobbins
They have a huge majority
Get over it

Something like only 33% of the vote and barely more than Corbyn's defeat 5 years ago.

What about all the weeping from Remoaners when they "lost" with nearing half the vote.

Two thirds didn't want Starmer!

The Tories trashed the economy with Brexit. Got us into severe debt. Trashed public services.

And now Labour are trashing the private sector who actually produce the wealth to pay for the public sector and benefits!

Meadowfinch · 24/11/2024 08:29

Animatron · 24/11/2024 08:25

Let's not behave like Americans.

I don't see anyone smashing the houses of parliament or trying to assassinate our elected leader.

I see peaceful demonstration and people expressing their legally-held opinion online.

The two couldn't be further apart. Long may that continue.

ChannelFiveDrama · 24/11/2024 08:29

I used to think these repeated anti-Labour threads were just Tory HQ bollocks but surely even they're not that stupid.

200k signatures! You can get 20 million and it won't make a difference to how our democratic process works.

Go and do something less pointless with your time.

We don't have enough working people to pay the tax bill. This would be a problem for any government. People like Dyson having to pay tax on his tax dodge land would help as well.

The Tories didn't do anything about this as they were too busy infighting and knew they'd be out soon. At least this government are trying. If it doesn't work or makes things worse we have an election in 2029.

We don’t. That’s because we over tax those who do fiscally contribute. Business and personal. You’re quite right - the Tories have started it. Then Labour have come in and officially shrunk the productivity of the private sector and created huge potential job losses with their taxes. Amazing.

And only 25% of the electorate as a whole, given the low turn out. All this result illustrates is how FPTP isn't fit for purpose!

namechangeranonymous · 24/11/2024 08:34

All the parties are a bit rubbish IMO and Labour’s start has been rubbish. So I’ve signed this and hope it sends a message.

Coolcats24 · 24/11/2024 08:34

I've signed it

The people who think this / say this in response to the threads which criticise Labour are the stupid ones. It's such a daft thing to come out with!

I remember a referendum on proportional representation in 2011 that was massively rejected.

I also voted tactically Lib dem as I think many did as I didn't want the Tory government to continue. People wanted a new government and they got it. If they didn't bother to vote that is their problem.

DancefloorAcrobatics · 24/11/2024 08:35

Who would we actually vote for?

Because the political landscape in the UK is a dessert with 2 sand dunes... one a bit to the right and one a bit to the left.

It wasn't a vote for PR, it was AV, which is different.

True PR may have had a different outcome.
