It's a waste of time. I'm not sympathetic to farmers. They have got a very good deal as regards IT. The winter fuel allowance was very sneaky.

MissBattleaxe · 24/11/2024 06:13

Yes, and the last government were such paragons of virtue and transparency. You can't turn around an election result within a few months of the vote. You can't turn round an oil tanker in four months when you're trying to undo 14 years of damage. Give them a chance.

merrymelodies · 24/11/2024 06:17

Not again!

Winter2020 · 24/11/2024 06:18

Labour said they wouldn't increase taxes on working people. So as long as we accept that some of the hardest working people in our communities (farmers and businesses owners) are not working people they are doing fine.

I've no problem with them taking the winter fuel allowance from the richst pensioners but taking it from some of the poorest (those that just fall short of entitlement to pension credit) is unforgivable.

Yes the people voted for a party but our politics now allows very vague/wooly manifestos like "create growth" and then the party to do whatever they like. E.g. they said we won't increase National Insurance. They have increased National Insurance aha but on employers not employees so that's great then ...as another pub closes.

Bettergetthebunker · 24/11/2024 06:23

”Keir Starmer has suffered the biggest post-election fall in approval ratings of any British prime minister in the modern era.
Just months after coming to office, the U.K. Labour leader is already languishing on an approval rating of -38“

Regardless of what MN thinks people don’t seem to like Keir. I don’t think anything will happen though.

Alltheprettyseahorses · 24/11/2024 06:57

Labour won a democratic election (or, given how much their vote went down too, lost it the least). A petition to get rid of them is ridiculous.

Lol at writing to MPs though if yours is anywhere near as useless and invisible as my ultra-safe-seat Labour MP.

Saschka · 24/11/2024 07:01

Isn’t the saying “you lost, get over it?”

Or does that only apply when Farage voters say it?

CaptainRedbeardandbigbadbarry · 24/11/2024 07:04

coffeeandteav · 24/11/2024 01:23

Not really most media is right wing. Hardlly any is left or non bias in uk. There just isn't. So fail readers make the loudest noise.

Dunning Kruger effect almost in action.

Err BBC is the most left wing media there is ..

16% of the vote and a vote larger than Corbyn got at the last GE and this lot are in.

It’s a shit show and an embarrassment.

PermanentTemporary · 24/11/2024 07:06

I wish Labour were less cloth-eared about rural affairs. I think the IHT change should have been in the manifesto. Otherwise I'm pretty happy with the way things are going overall. I didn't expect to love this government, but i think they're quite competent and doing some stuff that needed doing, plus some Reform type things which you wont read about in the papers because it doesnt suit the billionaires to give any credit to Labour. Certainly zero interest in seeing Badenoch or Farage having a go.

UpTheMagicChristmasTree · 24/11/2024 07:09

Not that there's anyone out there trying to Influence UK politics or anything...

PortiasBiscuit · 24/11/2024 07:10

Nah, why don’t we just storm the Capital Building ? Oh wait, we don’t have one…

BourbonsAreOverated · 24/11/2024 07:15

NOTANUM · 24/11/2024 01:15

@BourbonsAreOverated I am not sure what that point about the papers means, sorry. The papers are a mixed bag as we all know and I tend to read a variety to get my news.

Sorry was exceptionally tired waiting for teens to come in!

the last government would float an idea in the papers. Depending on the reaction would decide if they ran it or not.
using the media to decide if they should do something or not is not an effective way to run a country or get us out of this mess. Let alone long term plan for things like housing and climate crisis

UpTheMagicChristmasTree · 24/11/2024 07:17

hattie43 · 24/11/2024 06:04

This government are proving to be totally inept. Liars .
I'm also worried they are so out of step with other countries current thinking .
This is going to be a very long 4 yrs but luckily 4 years is not long enough to do serious damage given how long it takes to get laws passed and infrastructure in place .

As opposed to the last crew who've done so much damage to this country that it will take years and years to recover.

I think people are just in shock that the country is actually being run by grown ups for a change.

Enough4me · 24/11/2024 01:07

I signed as worried about food costs with the changes to farming land.

You’re worried about food costs, this would suggest that you’re struggling with the cost of living. The billionaires have got you worried about their tax bill

are you aware that 50% of farms in uk are tenants, they don’t own their farms, they rent from people such as National trust etc, won’t pay iht

BourbonsAreOverated · 24/11/2024 07:22

Theunamedcat · 24/11/2024 01:18

It's exactly how democracy works people are seriously pissed off at the government and the fact that they didn't do this with boris and they are doing it with this government shows just how BADLY they are doing

People were seriously pissed off over
Iraq war
hs2
brexit
covid parties
jobs for mates and covid
covid fraud
Dominic Cummings
unelected prime ministers

nothing happened then and nothing should happen now.

whichever government got in now was always going to have an utterly shit ride this year or two. They needed to rip off the plaster make some hard decisions that would really hurt. Just to balance the books. As the 4/5 years come around hopefully it evens out and by the end things look brighter and we can have teachers who want to stay in the job, waiting lists down at hospitals and police able to do their jobs not go from one mental health crisis to another (whilst ignoring their own caused by work)

I remember when that came in and the papers were full of pensioners saying they didn’t need it and were going to give it to charity.

Aduvetday · 24/11/2024 07:29

They’ve managed to shrink the private sector with their budget, There is no-one to pay for the big state. It’s a car crash.

Petition to stop stupid people and their manipulators from starting petitions.

leftfootinletfootout · 24/11/2024 07:34

I won't sign. I don't agree with it. I despise the Tories. But you do yourself no credit with your styatement about pensioners having three cruises a year. Certainly not the 100,000 being pushed into poverty (https://www.theguardian.com/society/2024/nov/19/winter-fuel-payment-cuts-may-force-100000-pensioners-below-poverty-line) nor those who are fractionally above it. As for being "uneducated", I will pit my education against yours any day. I don't resort to personal insults to make arguments, unlike you.

No, it just means that the right wing has control of the media and social media and they can manipulate it. This sort of shit is just going to increase now Trump is in but people really need to apply rational thought as to where these things are coming from and what are their intentions.

This!

pavementgerms · 24/11/2024 07:38

You lost. Get over it. (That's what brexiteers have been saying for 8 years, anyway).

ReadWithScepticism · 24/11/2024 07:49

Honestly it is so horrifying just how far the capacity to talk in an even moderately evidence-based and rational way has fallen over the last several years. You can see it on Mumsnet as well as in the world at large.
Of course in the old days too, MN was full of people charging in with half-thought opinions and a scant grasp of the facts but at least it used to be their own half-thought opinions and scant grasp of the facts.
Now, participants in online discussions are responding to deliberately seeded lies and distortions (and stupid gimmicks like this misuse of the petition tool), and the ignorance of individual contributors just adds layers of additional unrealism onto online narratives that are spun by agitators.
And the more people are immersed in this impoverished level of debate the poorer and poorer their critical thinking skills become.
Soon we will be in a position where there are fewer and fewer people around who can remember what it was even like before our former mediocre level of public discussion descended into this curated mass stupidity.
