Starmer has no charm or charisma

I don't want charm and charisma and a lot of other voters don't want those attributes either

steady, diligent and boring but gets a job done - whether that is what we will get, only time will tell.

No thank you. I'm no fan of labour but cleaning up after the Tories was never going to be pretty. Wouldn't want that job for anything.

You said:

"They then mass report and delete to silence the posters"

MNHQ only delete posts which break the talk guidelines. So there would be no mileage in mass reporting posts which don't.

I've had posts deleted and reinstated for speaking about attending an event and something that went on at the periphery of it and that was already in the papers but was reported by posters who didn't want to believe it happened. Or didn't want it mentioned because it went against their worldview. Funny old place sometimes, Mumsnet.

bombastix · 24/11/2024 18:30

It may be that Starmer is charisma free; he’s just beaten the alternatives to get to government.

This s petition is supposed to be a rallying call for Conservatives. It’s been headlined in the Spectator. It is not some organic process but a junior grade attempt to give a struggling opposition something to build around.

If Starmer is as terrible as some say here he will certainly lose the next election. But it does also read as if a lot of people are worried for themselves. It would suit them for better if his budget was never implemented. If it succeeds, and it is a risk, the genie will be out of the bottle in terms of an actual left wing government.

He's a wet fucking lettuce!

lettuce you say, the lettuce didn't outlive this PM though

Not only does Free Gear Kier lack charisma but neither he nor Rachel in Accounts have the ability to get anything done.

Why does Rachel from Accounts get her heating bills paid by the taxpayer while pensioners freeze?

What does Lord Ali think about all this
and will he still be funding Angela Rayner’s flapping green trouser suits 😳

One million !

It amazes me that you can’t understand how this happens. Millions of people didn’t vote Labour, as is the case for any government. Of those people, many really don’t like the party. Of course you can get high numbers on a petition.
Thing is, if by some weird turn of events there was one, you would get another group of a million of more people who would prefer to get rid of the new government. Which is why that’s not how things are done.

How do you increase everyone’s wages then, without putting the price of everything up

@losingthetimber But the price of everything has already gone up a lot and wages haven't.

Have you noticed tax and borrowing has gone up since the budget?

@EasternStandard Which tax ? all of them ? and borrowing might not be a bad thing if it draws in investment ?

SheilaFentiman · 24/11/2024 18:40

Let’s say starmer calls an election tomorrow.

Do people truly think Badenoch would win?

cardibach · 24/11/2024 18:41

Caselgarcia · 24/11/2024 16:35

I read it so very different to you, one million people who feel their voices aren't being heard and who are voicing their discontent with this government. Remember that some of those people 'who don't seem to understand how our electoral system works' can vote and their votes carry just as much weight as anyone else's. The electorate represents the full spectrum of society and governments need to understand everyone's concerns - educated or not.

Their voice was heard at the GE. The fact that more people’s voices said something they didn’t like doesn’t mean they weren’t heard.

Yes. You can also watch people deliberately try and goad into personal attacks on their post. Like wolves circling - then bang - they mass report. The more reports. MNHQ just delete. It’s all very weird. 4 or 5 posters will turn up at a time on a thread and start trying to get anyone against their view mass deleted.

Sigh.

My point was about incoming leaders always blaming the prior leader,

The Tories did it after Blair/brown, and then each new Tory leader tried it after Cameron. Even if they were a minister in their predecessor’s government.

HTH.

Polls now put Labour behind

I think Labour can drop further though given growth so far

When the job losses hit and the welfare reforms hit home.

I'm also thinking of public sector pay and the budget next year

Labour can't add another £70bn in tax and borrowing so we'll see how they reconcile that if the private sector is not funding as much

Polls - are these a straight % of vote or are they actually forecasting numbers of MPs

But Badenoch, who has been leader for 5 mins and is pretty unlikely to still be leader if Labour serves a 4-5 year term - do you think she could lead the party to victory in the next month or two?

Aduvetday · 24/11/2024 17:13

It honestly doesn’t bother me. You keep going. It’s a bit obsessive.

Yes, other people posting in a discussion is inherently suspect but you doing it is different and special.

Caselgarcia · 24/11/2024 18:56

cardibach · 24/11/2024 18:41

Their voice was heard at the GE. The fact that more people’s voices said something they didn’t like doesn’t mean they weren’t heard.

And sadly those people who read the Labour manifesto and voted for them were misled. Far too many promises broken. So discontent grows - especially when they are being told to 'shut up' and 'deal with it' .

why do any MPs get their heating bills paid for on expensive or free gear, holidays and the like? Why do the MPs get a subsidised restaurant with fine food?
