Zero Covid campaign

Could people please sign and share this petition to improve test and trace so that we can suppress the virus please? SAGE scientists dont think the vaccine will be enough on its own because of high transmission leading to mutations v quickly.. and also because of vaccine escape. Also some detail from the Zero Covid campaign below about mitigation measures that could be introduced in schools to make them much safer!

www.actionnetwork.org/petitions/test-and-trace

The government could introduce mitigation measures such as increased distancing (through the use of under-used buildings), enhanced ventilation and the reintroduction of masks. The enhanced ventilation would need to be introduced over the summer holidays and schools would need extra funding, and perhaps logistical support, for it. As Covid-19 is an airborne disease, good ventilation is essential to hindering its spread. Independent SAGE have been recommending such measures since the pandemic started. You can read the relevant report here:www.independentsage.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/Schools-Jan-2021-final.pdf

This paragraph summarises their recommendations:
“Making schools safer: We have already addressed this issue in some detail in our November report, and so do not need to repeat it here. The crux of the issue is the need to implement the basic mitigation measures in the school environment: spatial distancing, good ventilation, masks (we support the use of masks in classrooms for secondary school students –as already occurs in Scotland–with exceptions for those who cannot wear them and with free provision so that all students have access to good quality protection), and hygiene measures.”

The World Heath Organization recommends something similar. See this report:www.who.int/publications/i/item/9789240017467

You anti vax or something?

PicsInRed · 01/07/2021 20:10

No. Vaccines are the way forward.

Thislittlefinger123 · 01/07/2021 20:12

Um, no.

OliveTree75 · 01/07/2021 20:13

No thanks OP.

skipperjonce · 01/07/2021 20:14

Fuck no

Honey12346 · 01/07/2021 20:15

No

Zero covid is not working out well for Australia

TheVampiresWife · 01/07/2021 20:16

Is this for real?! Confused

NothingIsWrong · 01/07/2021 20:16

Exactly how many schools do you think have underused buildings? I used to deal with schools professionally and almost all of them are bursting at the seams?!?

Blackdog19 · 01/07/2021 20:17

No. I don’t want to see masks reintroduced in secondary schools.

TheVampiresWife · 01/07/2021 20:18

Also, interesting choice for a first post, OP Hmm

FromEden · 01/07/2021 20:18

Lol. Yeah, zero covid is a feasible idea. Hmm Delusional

NothingIsWrong · 01/07/2021 20:21

And as for 6 weeks to improve ventilation in schools?!? Pahahahahahha. I used to plan summer holiday work, like roofing and windows, up to 18 months in advance and we still sometimes couldn't find contractors with slots available for the 6 week summer period. It's 2 weeks until the holidays start, not a single chance will you get ventilation schemes designed, tendered, manufactured etc. You'd be pushing it for next summer to be honest without using almost every single consultant and manufacturer going. Most of them are pretty busy already.

Also, with major services upgrades we often had to upgrade the incoming electricity supply as well and then you are at the whim and resource of the statutory provider.

Toty · 01/07/2021 20:22
Grin Zero covid? Good luck with that.
BigRedBoat · 01/07/2021 20:24

Zero covid? That ship has sailed long ago!

FionaMumsnet · 01/07/2021 20:24

We're just moving this one over to petitions.

Rosehip10 · 01/07/2021 20:25

"Indy sage" are mainly people who were passed off they were not invited to sage proper and would put out anything that is the opposite to what the government are doing.

Indy sage = self appointed sage. They’ll be gutted when this all ends because they’ll have to go back to relative obscurity. Zero Covid will not happen. People campaigning for it need fo find something more useful to do with their time.
CoffeeWithCheese · 01/07/2021 20:37

I'm thinking of a two word phrase. Second word is off.

Also, interesting choice for a first post, OP Hmm
Why is it?
Pinkcadillac · 01/07/2021 21:01

By all means let's open windows and wash hands but forget about zero Covid. It is madness.

Whatalottachocca · 01/07/2021 21:02

Is it April 1st again? 🤔

Carycy · 01/07/2021 21:03

I don’t want my kids to be forced to distance from each other anymore ta! I want them to go back to normal school life.

Bobholll · 01/07/2021 21:23

No thanks. Time to get on with life for the most part. Unless the world irradiates covid, we never will have zero covid.
