Zero Covid campaign

Could people please sign and share this petition to improve test and trace so that we can suppress the virus please? SAGE scientists dont think the vaccine will be enough on its own because of high transmission leading to mutations v quickly.. and also because of vaccine escape. Also some detail from the Zero Covid campaign below about mitigation measures that could be introduced in schools to make them much safer!

www.actionnetwork.org/petitions/test-and-trace

The government could introduce mitigation measures such as increased distancing (through the use of under-used buildings), enhanced ventilation and the reintroduction of masks. The enhanced ventilation would need to be introduced over the summer holidays and schools would need extra funding, and perhaps logistical support, for it. As Covid-19 is an airborne disease, good ventilation is essential to hindering its spread. Independent SAGE have been recommending such measures since the pandemic started. You can read the relevant report here:www.independentsage.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/Schools-Jan-2021-final.pdf

This paragraph summarises their recommendations:
“Making schools safer: We have already addressed this issue in some detail in our November report, and so do not need to repeat it here. The crux of the issue is the need to implement the basic mitigation measures in the school environment: spatial distancing, good ventilation, masks (we support the use of masks in classrooms for secondary school students –as already occurs in Scotland–with exceptions for those who cannot wear them and with free provision so that all students have access to good quality protection), and hygiene measures.”

The World Heath Organization recommends something similar. See this report:www.who.int/publications/i/item/9789240017467

Personally i'd rather keep my kid safe than go on holidays abroad.

With respect OP I don’t think you’ve quite thought through what’s involved in running the testing side of test and trace. It’s not something that local public health teams can just pick up in their day job.

Ah found the study here that mentions 50% of children:

It wasn't my idea, it was the very eminent scientists who make up Indie SAGE who are calling for this! Many of the SAGE scientists agree with them and they issued a stark warning to the government about passing Stage 3, it was supposed to be based on data not dates, but that was a load of crap!! They haven't even waited for event data to go ahead with events. Stephen Riecher is part of the goverment committee Spy-M. So he wasn't "passed over" by the government as one poster seemed to suggest! Scientists have no agenda, they are only trying to protect us.

The WHO also know what they are talking about. Test, trace and isolate has been used to isolate the sick since the 18th century. Not quite sure what our government are doing!!! They have no strategy except letting people get infected.. Herd immunity is a magical fantasy in a disease you can catch again and again!

The 344 million they've given to Serco can be given to local health teams instead. Actually many councils have picked up test and trace due to Serco's failures and have a 96% contact rate. But others need the investment and the government hasn't given them any extra money. Those teams that out performed Serco did it without any extra funding thought!

[quote Wileykit]Ah found the study here that mentions 50% of children:

That study was a small sample of children who had been diagnosed in hospital. If they were ill enough to be hospitalised they were very ill and it's unsurprising they have taken a long time to recover. It's unclear how they mitigated the impact of other factors in the study ie were they in for something else and had Covid? Did they catch Covid whilst in hospital? The study quoted earlier was a random sample. Much more accurate in terms of general population risk.
