Would you vote to end the monarchy?

At the end of this month Republic is heading to Plymouth and Truro to host screenings of the documentary The Man Who Shouldn't Be King.

The film highlights the real problems Duchy of Cornwall tenants face becaues of the feudal way Prince Charles runs the estate. Making the film has spurred us on to get the Duchy taken off Charles's hands (it's not his private property) and to ensure all Duchy tenants enjoy the same rights as the rest of us.

All our events around the country are part of Republic's Where You Live programme. You can find out more and help us organise more events by donating at www.republic.org.uk/whereyoulive

For those saying that if you don't have a monarch you need a "president"... you already have a Prime Minister.

I wonder how much money the living royals bring into the country. It's actually the historical royal buildings that bring the most money regardless if they are living royals in them or not (see Versailles).

Cheguevarahamster · 29/05/2020 08:08

Yes. Definitely.

Trezo · 29/05/2020 12:46

Why the monarchy must go.

Seems a lot of people on mumsnet would like to see the end of the monarchy

Tomorrowsanewday · 29/05/2020 13:26

I thought including fundraising links on a post was against @MNHQ rules?
Has this rule changed?
I’ve lots of fundraisers of my own I could promote if it has.

Trezo · 29/05/2020 16:19

It's not fund raising its weekly news discussing the monarchy you can view on YouTube if you would like.

No I wouldn’t

@Trezo

I would want an elected head of state not the hereditary Royals You get to choose. Who are the Royals what have they achieved a mediocre bunch Loads of money spent on one family and they with the most perpetrate the awful class system we have.
At least the royals usually have a decent grasp of English language and can use punctuation.
GarlicSoup · 29/05/2020 16:27

No

AgeLikeWine · 29/05/2020 16:33

Yes.

I would replace the monarchy with an elected ‘figurehead’ presidency with very few powers and a mainly ceremonial role, in line with the Irish and German models. Any member of the Windsor family who wished to stand for election to the role would be allowed to do so.

Lostvoiced · 29/05/2020 16:34

Yes.

Enough is enough now. Once the queen goes that should be it.

Tomorrowsanewday · 29/05/2020 16:40

@Trezo when I click on your link the first thing that is shown is ‘Donate today’ for a money fundraiser so how can it not be seen as a fundraising link?

pollysproggle · 29/05/2020 16:47

No.

DKanin · 29/05/2020 16:49

Yes, definitely. I find the concept that some people are born "better" or "superior" abhorrent. They're not just born rich or benefiting from someone else's wealth, it's the concept of titles which I find offensive and there is no place for it in this day and age.

YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet · 29/05/2020 16:51

Thanks for the reports, we're moving this over to the Petitions topic now.
