Controversial topic, I know, but there's a petition here for those who think schools should close.

Greggers

Best tell that to the Italians then, coronavirus isn't realistic.
Work and childcare is all some people can see. I'm sure we could have bombs dropping and the good old British would be more concerned with going to work, and their childcare.
People will die, but oh my childcare.

Lotuscup563 · 08/03/2020 11:09

I agree, people who are moaning about work and childcare appear to have no clue what’s going on in our neighbouring countries....for some strange reason, us British think ‘Yh love, but it won’t happen to us...init’

Lotuscup563 · 08/03/2020 11:12

@Greggers2017 ......you do realise there are people in towns that are on lockdown don’t you?

Lotuscup563 · 08/03/2020 11:15

There is also people who are currently locked down on a cruise ship.....you should watch the news.

I’m sure none of them have a job as important as yours though...but if they do they can just explain to the nice man and I’m sure he will bring the boat back to shore for them to go to work and mix with more people.

What your saying isn’t realistic....in any other terms then yes, I would completely agree with you, but I think a lot of people haven’t realised that this is not a normal case of the common cold going around.

Babytigerrr · 08/03/2020 11:56

@devlesko easy to be rude and condescending when it doesnt affect you eh?

Nice to be a smug sahm right now i guess.

Greggers2017 · 08/03/2020 12:59

@Lotuscup563 and the essential jobs will continue.
I can tell you for sure that my homeless clients who are addicted to crack cocaine and heroin Won't adhere to any lock down.

Greggers2017 · 08/03/2020 13:00

I'm not saying my job is important I'm just realistic and live in the real world x

GreenTulips · 08/03/2020 13:09

I have 3 children in 3 different schools.

One of them could easily spread the virus to
1000 children another is in a school of 400 plus 6th form say 200

Plus 40 teachers and their families and children.

I can see why closing schools is a good idea.

However the amount of kids who do not wash their hands is shocking! Parents could help by enforcing this message at home.

Bouledeneige · 08/03/2020 17:54

I just checked the PHE website and there are no recorded cases of Covid19 in my London borough (population 270,000). So why would they close the schools now?

Devlesko · 08/03/2020 18:14

Babytigeer.

I bet we have far less money than you, are you low income on tc? Do you earn more than 18k, can you afford people to care for your kids in the holidays because childcare costs thousands. Something we have never been so rich to afford. I bet we have far more to lose than you.
Some of us aren't that selfish though and prefer to do what's right.

Babytigerrr · 08/03/2020 18:18

We do earn more than you. We have more outgoings also! Ie childcare.

Youre already at home. I am not.

I assume i wont get a refund from nursery tbh.

Sometimes you gotta be selfish when it comes to feeding your kids.

If any of us are ill we will self isolate. I have no problem with that.

Devlesko · 08/03/2020 18:38

But you have a problem with people wanting to contain the virus so it doesn't reach worst case scenario.
You have no idea of our situation, we will lose at least a million from our lost tour if/when they close entertainment venues, on top of our income.
I have a child that unlike your own maybe won't have a shutdown where she can come home, she may be locked in, especially if GCSE's go ahead. I may have a couple of international students needing assistance, not having seen their parents since Christmas. I don't know what will happen, just the same as others.
So of course this affects me, I'm also diabetic in my 50's with reduced lung function.
It shows how your mind works though, that wanting to do the right thing to you is condescending rude and a sahp isn't affected by a killer virus.
I know who I'd rather be now. Give your head a wobble, there's more to life than money and it sounds like you have enough of that to maybe choose a simpler less consumerist lifestyle.

Babytigerrr · 08/03/2020 19:00

So youre going to lose a million but you earn less than 18 grand? What?

If i had enough money i wouldnt be worrying about taking unpaid time off Work would i!! Sorry how consumerist of me to worry about how wed pay the mortgage Hmm

Devlesko · 08/03/2020 19:25

Yes, we have a full stage touring show.
All freelance musicians and singers. They close theatres and our other venues we work, we are fucked. BusineWorst is my dd and GCSE's and a boarder.
I feel for the little ones who haven't been home since Christmas and won't be going Easter.
Please don't think me heartless, we all care about others. My town is like the Marie Celeste, no old people out all week. The stall holders told me they had never seen the likes. Even the little cafes they frequent were empty, it's their social life gone.
It is my belief that we should have acted and much sooner, but we all have different opinions.
We could have made it much easier for the NHS with fewer cases, and of course the huge peak would have been lower.

Babytigerrr · 08/03/2020 19:30

So i have too much money but you have a full stage touring show and millions to lose.

Fuck me.

Devlesko · 08/03/2020 19:46

Baby

It's not my money, we only see the figures go in and come out again Grin
Our pay is very low, but that's a choice and I admit at the extreme end and not normal. It doesn't make me smug or a tin hat wearer btw.
It's just the same, we need to work and earn money for us and others, and having no work will affect all of us whoever we are.

Babytigerrr · 08/03/2020 19:50

But youre happy for that to happen....

It might not need to happen...

Devlesko · 10/03/2020 13:35

BUMP for the OP

If it isn't too late now.
