Apologies if this has already done the circuits (I'm sure it has, but I've had a look and can't see it) but here's the link to the petition calling for a revote as less than 75% of the population voted and the margin was so tight.

petition.parliament.uk/petitions/131215

AIBU to think that its perfectly reasonable to expect a revote considering that in less than 4 hours after the results, the Leave campaign backed out of some of their most significant promises?

"especially for the many, many young people who wanted to remain (voted for it in large numbers too)"

Topseyt

Can you post a link to the actual voting figures please. That's something I'm really interested in - actual numbers of how many of the 18-34's went out and cast their vote.

I know that the data shows that 75% of 18-24 year olds said they were voting Remain but it's the actual turnout figure I'm interested in and I haven't been able to find it yet. Thanks in advance.

(and no, I'm not being sarky I really am interested in the turnout figures)

OrangesandLemonsNow · 25/06/2016 15:02

If there is another referendum it makes a total mockery of democracy.

If it is leave again do you want a third one, fourth one.

What if remain wins a second one by the same magin leave did. I take it you will be willing to have another one as after all you wanted one when remain didn't win.

I accept people aren't happy with the results. However of each person one vote.

Majority is the majority.

GingerCuddleMonsterThe2nd · 25/06/2016 15:07

I think they are past the point of caring if they get another industrial estate or A road with a eu flag on it to be honest. That's the feeling I get speaking to them, they are apathetic towards the EU.

What point is a shiny new building if you can't feed your children

Mooseboots · 25/06/2016 15:08

OrangesandLemonsNow - So it is making sense to you that people are now waking up two days later going "Oops. Didnt know what i was voting for, i'm gonna google it. Oh, right, well that wasnt what i voted for?"
I think what we need to see is an actual majority vote, not a tiny percentage difference.

blitheringbuzzards1234 · 25/06/2016 15:15

Besides which, haven't most of us had it up to here with the whole damn thing? Many times I've voted for the losing side in an election -that's called democracy - some things just have to be filed under 'hard cheese'.

deetee99 · 25/06/2016 15:24

Yes let's have another one to overturn the 2nd one until we get the result we want :-)

CoolforKittyCats · 25/06/2016 15:27

That is the crux of it. That is what many leavers are saying and people aren't listening.

WaspsandBeesSting · 25/06/2016 15:29

I think what we need to see is an actual majority vote, not a tiny percentage difference

So if it went to a level big majority would you accept that?

I'm getting the impression that some Remainers will keep pushing and pushing until they get what they want.

OrangesandLemonsNow · 25/06/2016 15:31

So it is making sense to you that people are now waking up two days later going "Oops. Didnt know what i was voting for, i'm gonna google it. Oh, right, well that wasnt what i voted for?"

You are under the assumption that those that voted remain all knew what they voted for.

Salene · 25/06/2016 15:31

What a joke. The vote has been done accept the result and move on

What is this , best of 5

Keep asking for a re match till you win.

What a load of bollocks

GingerCuddleMonsterThe2nd · 25/06/2016 15:36

Cool it really amazes me that people can not accept that many people can not see any personal gain from EU membership, and they are so unwilling to accept this point of view that they want to piss all over democracy.

The mind boggles....

Kimononono · 25/06/2016 15:37

You are under the assumption that those that voted remain all knew what they voted for

This ^ I'm starting to see more and more posts about just voting in because of not wanting to 'change the status quo' 'better the devil you know' and my favourite ' I'm scared the EU might do something bad to us if we left'

Which are just as staggering as 'I left cos immigrants' voters

SeasonalVag · 25/06/2016 16:18

Ok, so, if remain had won by a baw hair, and leave supporters insisted on a second go, how would you all feel?

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 25/06/2016 16:26

I would have said it was their democratic right to request this, even though I would not be happy to have a other referendum.

TheNaze73 · 25/06/2016 16:31

They'll be a campaign to get that removed by the Brexit people next. And then what happens. More people will sign it.

As a Bremainer, I'm frankly embarrassed by all this bitterness towards democracy. We need to get over it, not make ourselves look classless in defeat

noblegiraffe · 25/06/2016 16:38

I don't want to get over something so hideously awful. I don't want to get over the economic disaster, or the racists now asking foreigners why they haven't left yet, or Nigel Farage's shit-eating grin.

Not in my name.

GingerIvy · 25/06/2016 16:42

Racists have always been here. Nigel Farage has always had the same grin. Our economy has been dreadful for quite some time.

GingerIvy · 25/06/2016 16:42

by the way, that does not mean that I approve of racism, but let's be realistic - they've always been here, just as they are still rampant in the US.

PanEuropeanPan · 25/06/2016 16:43

Quite, noble.

Kimononono · 25/06/2016 16:43

Wow noble sounds like you need a Wine

PanEuropeanPan · 25/06/2016 16:44

I think you are underplaying the enhanced entitlement to abuse anyone who looks as if they aren't British-born there, Ginger.

Bambamrubblesmum · 25/06/2016 16:48

This is too important to just roll over and go 'oh well that's that then'.

1.7 million people have now signed the petition and want this looked at rather than just sleep walking into the future.

Scotland is having another referendum

Ireland had a second referendum over the Nice treaty.

The precedent has been/will be set.

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 25/06/2016 16:51

If Remain had won by a whisker there would have been another referendum in a few years time.
Barrage said it.

OrangesandLemonsNow · 25/06/2016 16:53

This is too important to just roll over and go 'oh well that's that then'.

So you want to keep going until you get the remain vote you want.

CoolforKittyCats · 25/06/2016 16:55

Scotland is having another referendum

Nicola Sturgeon was always going to find a reason for one. If it wasn't this it would be something else.

Her lifelong aim is Scottish independence.
