I can't. I am gutted by the result but I believe in democracy and men and women died so people can freely vote.

There is a brilliant saying that a colleague of mine uses:

"You can have your say, but not your way."

Signing the petition is not going against democracy

Firstly, a petition of this size = the issue gets discussed in parliament. This is no undemocratic, it is quite democratic that the fact that a lot of people are unhappy about what is happening is discussed by decision makers even if it doesn't mean they hold another referendum - because they need to take heed of the mood when deciding how to progress with a brexit that so many people don't want

Secondly, as I said before, a second referendum is not undemocratic. It's a referendum and its not unprecidented to have multiple referendums on the same topic whenever public opinion shifts.

Even if that happens…. referendums aren't in our constitution anyway, so it's still not undemocratic, it's still up to our democratically elected parliament whether we do go through with brexit or not this is true whether we have a second referendum or not

The referendum is supposed to give the decision makers a true picture of public opinion

GloriaGaynor · 25/06/2016 20:44

I have spent much time over the last 2 days reading Brexiteers reasons for leaving. I am horrified and astounded by the level of naivety and ignorance. It's far worse than I ever figured.

That's one of the key fillips for me to push for a second referendum.

GloriaGaynor · 25/06/2016 20:47

Great post Adulting.

Further debate and a second referendum is democracy in action.

Bedsheets4knickers · 25/06/2016 20:47

There is no bullying, we are not pulling your hair.
This is just typically the talk from a deluded bully .. Bullying is far from physical .. It's actualy the type of bullying that the leavers felt they wanted to get away from when they choose to LEAVE

As a percentage it is no way a convincing enough majority to take such a huge step especially as 2 of the 4 countries of the UK didn't back it, and people are regretting it and were misled. It's cutting ones nose off to spite ones face if we go through with it IMO.

OrangesandLemonsNow · 25/06/2016 20:49

The referendum is supposed to give the decision makers a true picture of public opinion

It has. You just don't like it.

GloriaGaynor · 25/06/2016 20:50

And how bullied do you think immigrants and foreign workers here feel about the Leave campaign and vote?

Many foreigners have said they now feel unwelcome. What is that if not bullying people out of the country?

Bedsheets4knickers · 25/06/2016 20:50

People are regretting it because they have been practically witch hunted ..

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 25/06/2016 20:50

If people really want it they can vote leave again surely. It's gone far beyond being a sore loser. The implications and the effects already are enormous. People didn't even know what the EU was.

SellFridges · 25/06/2016 20:50

Democracy doesn't mean you stamp your feet until you get your own way.

I'd like to start thinking of ways those of us who wanted to Remain can do something positive to make the exit as beneficial as possible.

AdultingIsNotWhatIExpected · 25/06/2016 20:51

It has. You just don't like it.

If you truely believe that then what's the problem? wouldn't a second have the same result as the first if it still reflects how people really feel?

ocelot41 · 25/06/2016 20:52

Ordinarily I would say we lost, we have to suck it up. But it seems like many Leavers voted on the grounds of promises which are already being acknowledged as lies. That doesn't mean that they are racist or stupid. It means they have been lied to!

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 25/06/2016 20:53

Exactly. It's a huge fuck up.

Allisgood1 · 25/06/2016 20:53

HmmHmmHmm

Bedsheets4knickers · 25/06/2016 20:55

It would just make me fight harder to leave . We voted to leave . Am I scared yes but excited scared . I truly believe we will be better than before .. It's not black and white .. No one knows what will happen tomorrow or next week next month next year .. It's huge what's happened this week . So huge it's terrifying but does NOT mean it's wrong

OrangesandLemonsNow · 25/06/2016 20:55

If you truely believe that then what's the problem? wouldn't a second have the same result as the first if it still reflects how people really feel?

Where does it end? Three times, four times? How about we have one every 6 months just to check.

Salene · 25/06/2016 20:57

Talk about sore losers

Have some dignity, and move on.

This is embarrassing

AdultingIsNotWhatIExpected · 25/06/2016 20:57

I was devastated at the last GA, would never in a million years have signed a petition for a re-election

This is different, this is different because a re-election of the GA where "my side" SORELY lost would have had the same result, plus it was a GA and not a referendum. I was gutted so many people voted how they did, but I felt confident that they'ld made their decision for their own reasons and they were happy with it

This is different because 2 million people believe the results would be different second time round.
2 million people believe that there are a significant amount of voters who wish to retract their votes
not two million people didn't win and are sore losers

Can't people see the difference?

Bedsheets4knickers · 25/06/2016 21:03

Well what we should now say is .. Let's see what happens !! I care for each and evey one of us .. If it did go to another vote then so be it .. BUT what we must be is all in it together .. Whatever happens ., because quite frankly this division is not what anyone wants

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 25/06/2016 21:06

It's so shallow and puerile to talk of sore losers. It's much bigger than that.

GloriaGaynor · 25/06/2016 21:08

That goes for me too Adulting exactly.

Littlemisslovesspiders · 25/06/2016 21:09

It's so shallow and puerile to talk of sore losers. It's much bigger than that.

Yet it seems to be ok to call those that voted a different way some really revolting names though.
