"I understood exactly what the vote meant and I still voted leave"

I don't think the people petitioning for a second referendum (not me, by the way) are doing it on grounds of people not understanding. They are doing on ground of less that 60% of the electorate voting in favour in a turnout of less than 75%. I don't know if they have any reason for those figures or if they are just plucked out of the air.

TheGoodEnoughWife · 25/06/2016 18:58

Then that should have been agreed before the first vote. (I get the 'not you')

If we had voted with the understanding that another vote would be along shortly then maybe people perhaps would have voted differently but it wasn't.

It all really smacks of bullying till we get voters to vote the way we want whilst still saying 'well, you had a vote...'

I am disgusted tbh.

If you go onto the petition you can click on map view

What's interesting about the petition, if you click on map view, is that the areas that predominantly IN (NI and Scotland) are not in fact where the majority of signiatures are coming from! They're coming from England and Wales!

Granted there's a high volume from london (IN), but there's huge volumes from strong OUT constituencies, including mine !

GloriaGaynor · 25/06/2016 19:27

In all honesty no one actually knows if it will have 'devastating' consequences as it is too early to say

Really? Our PM's resigned and there's no-one to replace him but a chaotic, ruthless buffoon.

The economic consequences have already kicking in.

Have you counted up the number of people on MN alone who have already lost or are to lose their jobs, contracts, funding?

GloriaGaynor · 25/06/2016 19:28

Interesting.

We chose

A 4% majority is not 'we'.

It will never happen ..

AdultingIsNotWhatIExpected · 25/06/2016 19:39

It will never happen ..
well, that was said of Brexit.. and Trump getting this far
I don't think anyone can say "it'll never happen" of anything any more

GloriaGaynor · 25/06/2016 19:41

Because many of the people who voted leave now regret it. Because many of the people who voted leave haven't the remotest idea of the consequences, of which posters MN is a very good example. The ignorance and naivety of posters here actually blows my mind.

Finally, a majority vote of less than 60% in a turnout of 70% isn't large enough to be truly democratic.

howtorebuild · 25/06/2016 19:41

I will consider legal action and appeal to the EU if the referendum isn't accepted.

The EU does have the power to suspend any member state, under Article 7, if the state breaches any of the EU's principles. Lack of democracy is a breach.

Thewolfsjustapuppy · 25/06/2016 19:42

i have signed. This petition is for a debate in parliament which there will be as more than 100,000 have signed.
The leave campaign was based on lies from the off, people did not have the facts on which to make a good decision. On MN the night before there were posters discussing how it was only an opinion pole anyway and nothing would happen if they voted leave.
I will not stop fighting this as I do not agree with the insidious acceptance and normalisation of racist and unacceptable views. This vote has done nothing but validate hateful xenophobic beliefs.

specialsubject · 25/06/2016 19:43

there may well be another general election after this. You influence who is in government and what happens by getting your arse to the polling station, not by farting around on the internet.

Bedsheets4knickers · 25/06/2016 19:50

I for one of the leavers am so beyond disgusted that we have been treated so awfully over the last 72 hours . How dare all of you. I researched , I didn't listen to farage. I know things will be rocky but let's face it things were Rocky anyway .. Even if you pretend they weren't .. I see this as a chance to try and make a difference to our country .. The next generations IF they choose can apply for us to rejoin . Nothing is off the table . I actualy think the EU leading members are being very nice and kind and respectful ..I think we need abit of slack ..

Are not is.

The EU we've just voted to leave. Good luck with that.

Buzzardbird · 25/06/2016 19:59

I am going to sign this only because there really are people who didn't research and regret their decisions.

SpunBodgeSquarepants · 25/06/2016 19:59

So much for democracy, eh?
We're leaving for a reason - BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT THE MAJORITY VOTED FOR. If you don't like it, move to North Korea.

Thewolfsjustapuppy · 25/06/2016 20:00

The majority of the younger generations who you want a better future for voted remain. The people who are actually going to be effected by brexiters for the very long term do not want to leave.

P1nkP0ppy · 25/06/2016 20:00

FFS
So democracy counts for nothing because the Remains don't like the result.
Pathetic, vicious bullying is alive and well in Britain.

Thewolfsjustapuppy · 25/06/2016 20:08

There is no bullying, we are not pulling your hair.
im not going to just role over on something I feel so strongly about.

bakeoffcake · 25/06/2016 20:20

Don't sign if you don't want to!

I voted remain and signed the petion yesterday when there were only a few thousand signatories. It's now at over 2.2 MILLION!!Grin the most signed parliamentary petition ever.

As someone said unthread, this is FAR too important to let go without a fight. Nigel Farage said in May that if the vote was close for remain, he wouldn't leave things to lie. Why should we?

bakeoffcake · 25/06/2016 20:21
