My vote would have to go to 'definitely' - seems only about 1 in 10 get that right.

oh yes, that one comes up all the time UQD..............

It's judgement.

UnquietDad · 01/04/2008 23:15

Well, maybe we can just say judgy-judgy for short...

VeniVidiVickiQV · 01/04/2008 23:18

judgey-judgey acksherly......

Swedes · 02/04/2008 00:30

A legal judgment is always a judgment always without an e.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 02/04/2008 00:38

oooh no but its so clumsy

LilyMunster · 02/04/2008 00:45

i can spell evrything. i just cant type to save me life.
sometimes i ntry harder than others to correct... som etimes 'cause i think people will think im tryong to be codlike and i aint no stalker ... sometimes cause its illedgile otherwise. also, spellcheck makes me lazy...

corrected version (to prove point)
i can spell everything. i just cant type to save my life.
sometimes i try harder than others to correct... sometimes 'cause i think people will think i'm trying to be cod-like and i 'aint no stalker ... sometimes cause its illegible (sp??) otherwise. also, spellcheck makes me lazy...

oh and life is just TOO short to do capitals and suchlike on tinternet. imo.

bandgeek · 02/04/2008 09:18

Words I always have to spell check are disappear and across (can never remember how many c's!)

Dalrymps · 02/04/2008 09:42

speaking of 'i before e except after c'... it doesn't always work so how do you know when it applies and when it doesn't? For instance, the word 'weird' - doesn't apply to that one

MarsLady · 02/04/2008 18:47

Do you think that you could sort out the spelling of ANTENATAL please? I may be forced to dive into the pc and strangle the next person who writes ANTINATAL.

Thank you!

found this on Wikipedia Dalrymps

"An augmented American version is:

i before e
except after c
or when sounding like "a"
like in neighbor or weigh
There is also a more sarcastic version, which points out a couple exceptions:

i before e
except after c
we live in a weird society."

Dalrymps · 07/04/2008 22:33

Thanks Lollypopzmummy, that clears it up a bit

geekgirl · 07/04/2008 22:36

has 'independent' been mentioned yet? Drives me demented .

CountessDracula · 07/04/2008 22:37

On here no-one can spell counselling
always councelling

geekgirl · 07/04/2008 22:38

Oh, I see it has. And yes, 'loose' and 'lose' also irritate me rather a lot - so easy to remember... you lose an 'o'.

geekgirl · 07/04/2008 22:38

yes, all those people who see a councillor to pour their heart out to - WTF?

susiecutiebananas · 07/04/2008 22:50

I was going to say diarrhoea which even my bloody spell check doesn't like!

I can't tell you how may different ways i've read it spelt at work. I'm a nurse on gastrointestinal medicine ward FGS! They should ALL know better!

Also far too many people get their "too" two" and "to" mixed up. It really really really irritates me!

Actually, there are many things like that that get confused by people. I'm not the worlds best at spelling, but at least I get the correct word, in the correct context, plus I actually check it out if I can, before I leave it as written, IFYSWIM?
