Are they? They sound different to me.

Like I say purple.

To me, hearing someone say choomeric/tyoomeric/toomeric is like hearing them pronounce purple as pupal.

Presumably it's an alternative pronunciation, but to me it feels like it doesn't track with the spelling, so it hits a bit strange.

If the spelling was tumeric, then I could understand pronouncing it tumour-ic (like most people I know seem to). However, the spelling is turmeric, with 2 ‘r’s, and therefore should be pronounced tur-muhr-ic.

for me - fur and her and stir all have the same end sound.

DM (80) says tyoomeric. I did too, growing up. I think I changed the pronunciation at about the same time I stopped saying the G in bolognese out loud (late 70s).

DM also still says Nestles rather than Nestle.

I think I flip flip, uncertainly. Sometimes Tur, sometimes Choo.

It's not a word I say out loud often.
