Possibly my most rage inducing Mumsnet phrase. Also very prevalent on FB. Have to sit on my hands so as not to correct people I know. Any takers or do I need to calm down?

Just put it in the draw and forget about it.

Blankscreen · 23/10/2022 19:18

Why do so many people now say 'super' instead of 'really'?

Arghhhhhhh

Igglepiggleslittletoe · 27/10/2022 11:44

Tricker treaters.....

A good few years ago a retired primary school headmaster said, "Have you noticed that on the radio and TV, when someone is asked a question, they don't say "yes" any more. They say "absolutely".
It was so long ago that he said it that I've stopped listening for it, but by chance, in the last couple of days, I heard someone say, "Yes, absolutely."

toastedcat · 27/10/2022 19:30

It reminds me of "I'm bias, but..."

It enrages me.

Nothing beats “baws.” I have now twice read “Grow a pair of baws” and twice died a little inside.

If you've heard it from a Scot that's Scots language, not an error. (Scots is a proper language, not just a dialect, we teach Scots these days in school. It's been a long time since the Highland Clearances, so it's about time 😅).

There's a Scottish underwear company called BawBags- very popular as it's also a funny insult, as in 'You're a bawbag' . Might not sound funny, but in context it is!

excelledyourself · 27/10/2022 20:44

Yep. 'By a bawhair' = by a very tiny margin.

Theydoyaknow · 27/10/2022 20:45

I found my passport in a draw!

A fucking draw!

How can people think draw is drawer. Makes me see red.

TheProvincialLady · 27/10/2022 21:20

I have only ever seen it written here on MN and had no idea it was Scots! I thought it was the height of ignorance but it turns out the ignorance was mine 😀 (and not for the first time).

Please don’t tell me that homebaking, alot and effect used instead of affect are also Scots or I really will have to rethink my entire way of life.

I'm going to raise my own pack lunch fury with 'to be fair' - surely the most superfluous phrase of the modern day? I want to slap people who say it and then don't follow up with some kind of qualitative or quantitative judgement.

Glass bowel for sale. I swear that I saw this advertised in a shop window.

EnyoClytemnestra · 16/12/2022 10:54

Mash potato

ginslinger · 16/12/2022 11:00

Look I think that we need to chill out a bit and just shove these things in our mental chester draws

DH and I were having this conversation last night. It's very annoying

pigsducksandchickens · 16/12/2022 11:04

I actually saw an advert on FB marketplace this week for Chester draws. I was like 😱

I don’t think it needs to be followed by a judgment. I use it as a preface to additional information on the other side of the argument. Being fair is about giving the full picture. Can we have examples of its incorrect use?

Iknownothing · 16/12/2022 11:15

I hate when people say they are being pacific about something. I have to resist the urge to ask them how they found it in such a large ocean.

EnyoClytemnestra · 16/12/2022 11:18

'to be honest'...
Aren't you usually honest?

Songlines · 16/12/2022 11:25

I've found my tribe!
Today, local FB page 'has anyone got a tree and ball balls for free?' It took me a minute......

ErrolTheDragon · 16/12/2022 11:25

‘You all’. Our top man came over from Texas and talked about ‘some of you all’ and ‘all of you all’, It’s quite sweet compared to ‘youse’ or ‘you lot’

Y'all is fine if it's your local dialect. As is 'yous/youse'.

There's a difference in normal life between the truth and the whole truth, it's called 'tact'.

TallulahBetty · 16/12/2022 11:29

'Pack lunch' drives me mad.

See also: 'drop kerb'; 'He's really chill'

I don’t think ‘yous/youse’ is used formally very much though, whereas ‘you all’ is used in fairly formal situations such as addressing several hundred staff about the company’s position and prospects.

Going against the grain here but...
