I've just seen it on here yet again.
It should be 'per se', borrowed from the Latin.

Toot Sweet is supposed to be tout de suite (immediately), but it's tongue in cheek when spelt like that I hope

Gubanc · 07/06/2021 22:19

Aksed... just.... how?

TaVeryMuchLove · 07/06/2021 22:20

Aksed... just.... how?
Yep. Agreed.

I saw ‘John and I’s birthdays’ this morning. How can anyone thing ‘I’s’ is a thing??? She definitely meant ‘I’ as in herself, not someone with an initial I.
I/me is one of the easiest things to work out too, just take the other person out of the sentence 🤯

New campers: they are GUY ropes, not guide ropes.

Arh, thanks for the interpretation. That makes sense now 😂

That's from learning parrot style and not really understanding the rule, isnt it? Children learn it's polite to put the other person's name first with an 'x and I' example and dont realise the 'I' is interchangeable with 'me'!

‘ Rest bite ‘ ( respite)

Prostate/prostrate cancer.

An oncologist friend told me he goes along with whichever one the patient uses during their first meeting.
He considers it bad form to correct a newly-diagnosed cancer patient.

That's really lovely and non judgemental. What a caring friend.
Strugglingtodomybest · 07/06/2021 22:59

DH and I had a humongous argument after I corrected his use of brought/bought once, in the middle of a smaller argument, ... ah, memories Grin

Wandering instead of wondering is my latest pet peeve though.

I calm myself by assuming it's autocorrect at it again!

SappysCurry · 07/06/2021 23:04

It’s because they have heard it said, rather than read it , so they don’t know how to actually spell it

Ormally · 07/06/2021 23:17

Self-paste learning.

I dont understand this one?
Self-paced?

Perhaps representative of the role of ctrl-V in the Wikipedia age?
Fromage · 07/06/2021 23:19

I don't really get excited by poor use of language on forums etc but when it's an advert, or an article - anything official, I do wonder why no one brought in a proof reader.

That said, IABU then to be a bit eye rolly at the people who are going to loose weight or who have a Husband or a Daughter or Thing What Don't Actually Need Capitals, Innit.

AlCalavicci · 07/06/2021 23:30

@tribpot
I was doing some self-paste learning last weekend.
I was hanging wall paper for the first time and seemed to get more paste on me than it did on the paper GrinGrin

DietrichandDiMaggio · 07/06/2021 23:31

Something I've only ever seen on Mumsnet is people meaning cue, but using que, so, for example, they write something like "I gave the children beans on toast for dinner, que lots of complaining that that's not a proper dinner".

Nightbear · 07/06/2021 23:35

’It should be 'per se', borrowed from the Latin.’

It might evolve into Per-see. That’s pig Latin.

I’ll get my coat …

@SpongebobNoPants

More than 5 times in the last 24 hours I have seen “ect” instead of etc. It’s et cetera!!!!
If it was on here, that will be autocorrect rather than ignorance.

SpongebobNoPants · 08/06/2021 03:29

@Changechangychange how and why would autocorrect change etc to ect? Ect isn’t a word or an abbreviation of anything... logically it should autocorrect to the correct “etc” Confused

Sunbird24 · 08/06/2021 05:14

I sometimes wonder when somebody has posted with a word spelled incorrectly and then other people post afterwards using the correct spelling (I don’t mean doing the faux helpful post to point it out, just normal responses) do they realise they had it wrong, or do they think the other person does?

tribpot · 08/06/2021 06:02

Yes, I should have said "self-paste" was code for self-paced. This was in a professional context as well, not a forum or blog. Because spell check didn't underline the word it was very hard to persuade them it was wrong.

@Borris

Lumbar puncher anyone?
Actually had LUMBER PUNCHER.

Can’t see how hitting wood might help.
