I've just seen it on here yet again.
It should be 'per se', borrowed from the Latin.

OP posts:
Zazazaz · 07/06/2021 21:43

Could of.

Cam2020 · 07/06/2021 21:48

On route? Per say? I could care less...

I probably should care less for my own sanity!

Pre madonna
I want to ask when pre-madonna was - are we talking BC or pre 80s?

AssumptaFitzgerald1884 · 07/06/2021 21:52

Bought/brought. They don’t mean the same thing.

I saw ‘Parodical Son’ the other day which made me wince.

Cam2020 · 07/06/2021 21:52

Self-paste learning.

I dont understand this one?
Self-paced?

I’d like to think pre 80’s.

TaVeryMuchLove · 07/06/2021 21:54

Can’t believe no one has mentioned pacific/specific yet.

FourTurnings · 07/06/2021 21:55

I see a lot of ‘very positive’
Surely it’s either positive or not

TaVeryMuchLove · 07/06/2021 21:55

Oh and “I literally died!”

Erm, if you’re telling me the story, you probably didn’t.

Susie477 · 07/06/2021 21:58

‘Toot sweet’.

Yes, I actually read this in a piece of published writing. I cringed when I read it and I cringe when I type it.

OchonAgusOchonOh · 07/06/2021 21:59

@Clymene

It's extraordinarily rude to correct someone else's grammar/pronunciation at the best of times. It is not 'very kind' to stop yourself doing it when you're giving someone a cancer diagnosis.
I assume the poster means that he too will use whichever one they use during the conversation, rather than he restrains himself from correcting them.
Terrazzo · 07/06/2021 22:00

It just shows people don’t understand how words work or at least think things through.

I saw ‘edition’ the other day, talking about an ‘addition’ to the decor of a room. Edition = edit. Addition = add. It really is that easy to work out.

Yes it was a mummy blogger, not someone who is a professional writer. But. They actually have put themselves into the position of being a professional writer (#ad etc) so shouldn’t they be able to form a sentence? I realise I sound like a really harsh snob but come on. How hard is it!

Sunbird24 · 07/06/2021 22:01

I read something today where wonton was used instead of wanton. Twice.

Cam2020 · 07/06/2021 22:02

Was it Chitty Chitty Bang Bang? What the hell is toot sweet?

FunnyWonder · 07/06/2021 22:02

I saw 'beater blockers' on here today.

SpongebobNoPants · 07/06/2021 22:03

More than 5 times in the last 24 hours I have seen “ect” instead of etc.
It’s et cetera!!!!

reallyreallyborednow · 07/06/2021 22:04

Wallah! Is my favourite recently…

Laurie01 · 07/06/2021 22:06

Dependent/Dependant

Dependent, it depends on something

Dependant, your child is your dependant

I'm guessing as in 'tout suite' but I could be wrong.

I've seen this too. Brilliant!

Lumbar puncher anyone?

tenlittlecygnets · 07/06/2021 22:08

@flowery

Excited for something when it should be excited about .

You can be excited for a person, not a thing.

That's just language changing and evolving - my teen dd uses 'excited for'. This is what language does! I generally enjoy how it evolves and how each generation makes changes and invents new words.
tenlittlecygnets · 07/06/2021 22:11

I'm not a fan of these constant peeving posts. The pronunciations used here show that people have heard the words, not seen them in print, and are saying what they thought they heard. I don't think it's that kind to laugh at others.

SpindleWhorl · 07/06/2021 22:12

'Toot sweets' were candy canes you blew through like a whistle. Maybe it was Ian Fleming's wee joke.

CooperLooper · 07/06/2021 22:13

Tender hooks 😭😭😭 whyyyyy
