I've just seen it on here yet again.
It should be 'per se', borrowed from the Latin.

So many people actually say 'ecsetra' as well when saying it out loud.

I know IABU for allowing these things to annoy me, but they do!

Another one is high rate. It makes me irate just thinking about it.

My DM keeps texting me that she's 'On route'. I might have to say something.

I've always wondered about "impact" as a verb. Have always been taught to say "Have an impact on" not "impacted on". The onlyncorrect usage for "impacted" is when talking about a wisdom tooth.

Has any one else heard this? Or am I some.ancient crone muttering about "back in the day"

SpindleWhorl different pronunciation from the original language perhaps? I can spot many words in the English language that are words from the Indian subcontinent, however they pronounced differently (pyjama or bungalow for example).

I think that one has been lost. ‘Affect’ has almost gone because everyone says ‘impact’ instead. I think it has happened during my lifetime. Somehow I overlooked the advent of ‘oversight’ as a synonym for supervision, and that ship has sailed as well. It seemed to happen very quickly.

It's extraordinarily rude to correct someone else's grammar/pronunciation at the best of times. It is not 'very kind' to stop yourself doing it when you're giving someone a cancer diagnosis.
