wedding favours - have you had any good ones?

My sister has asked me to help her out by aranging the wedding favours - don't really know what they are - any help would be great.

Best ones are chocolates that you scoff there and then - I suggest a single truffle in a box or (easier) a couple of foil-wrapped ones at each place.
'Keepsakes' to take home are a waste of money, half the people leave them and the rest bin them when they get home.
Sugared almonds in those net petticoat things are acceptable if you are from somewhere that has a real tradition of them, not otherwise.
Anything 'personalised' is awful.

DT - could you persuade your sister not to bother with wedding favours? I admit that I'm probably biased, but to me wedding favours are among the list of items that add to the cost, complexity and anxiety of a wedding but not one whit to its enjoyment.

Issy, I'd say the same, but if the bride is dead set on them I think damage limitation is probably in order.

My best friends wedding last year was the best ive had.

A little silver box, and inside was a glass tealight holder (with tealight), with silver and purple beads on wire wrapped around it. On the glass holder, each one had been handwritten with the names of bride and groom and the date of the wedding.

They are gorgoeus and a true keepsake for what was for me, a very special day.

We had some of these personalised sweets made and mut them in nice little bags on the tables for people to take home. We were in australia though, although I expect they would export or that you could find a company here which does them.

You are right Mrs Badger. If DT's sister is dead-set on wedding favours, something edible is the best bet.

My BIL had CDs with all their fave songs on them. I thought it was a nice (if very expensive!) idea, but must confess we only listened to it once.

We had little top hats filled with mint imperials for the men & little net bags with chocs in for the ladies

We got given lovely bulbs at a wedding in Amsterdam. Except they gave them to us in the dark, so me & dh thought they were chocolates and tried to eat them ( we were very drunk at the time)
But I think flower seeds are a lovely idea - we tried to get forget-me-not seeds for ours...

Oooh, and some friends of ours had a beach wedding and a funky cocktail party after, and they had rub-on tattoos made with the same design as on the intivation. It sounds tacky, but it was really fun and original.

We had little wooden kiwis carved in native NZ timber(i'm a kiwi) and had our names and the date of the wedding written on the bottom for each guest as the favour. We put a hole punch in the name tag and threaded the beak through it, so served dual purpose.

Everyone thought it was a lovely idea and keepsake.

we gave out minitures, with ahandwritten gift tag round the neck - whisky for the misters and southern comfort (don't know why!) for the laydeez

Dhs cousin bought these tealight holders, wrote the date and the guests name on there with glass pens and had them as a combination place holder and favour. They're really sweet, and we've still got ours.

I'd never heared of these. It sounds a bit like hard work.

I would agree that it should be something edible or usable - transient in the lives of the guests so as not to be self indulgent.

I don't know your budget but perhaps a chocolatier (I'm thinking of choccywoccydoodah - I know, awful name).

At a friend's wedding they had Miniature bottles of port for the men and something I can't remember for the women. However the port went down brilliantly so perhaps you could do Bailey's for the ladies or MrsBadger's suggestion of a chocolate truffle.
