The old thread has filled up and no one noticed - I think we're missing @oblomov26 sharp eyes!

I've tried to tag in everyone I can think of, but apologies to anyone I've missed!

It really is.

DS has at least spoken to some garages this morning so that's a start.

DS2 still not heard from landlord...he is sensible , yes. But he is also stubborn and a bit of a head in the sand type.

Piggywaspushed · 26/09/2026 12:01

Landlord must have heard me. Contract has arrived.

crazycrofter · 26/09/2026 12:48

Phew, that’s one less thing to worry about! When does his new job start?

The ‘right to choose’ option seems to be the quickest way of getting an autism assessment if he wanted to try again. You go via your GP but nominate a private provider - dd chose Psychiatry UK.

Halfords do a home service don’t they? I guess maybe not for all repairs. Or do you know anyone with a tow bar who could tow it to a garage?

I'm so sorry @Piggywaspushed you and your ds's are having such a bad week. Lots of garages do a pick up service. Can you find out the one nearest your ds ?

Piggywaspushed · 26/09/2026 13:14

Happily, Halfords are coming round tomorrow with their tail between their legs and replacing tyre for free.

Piggywaspushed · 26/09/2026 13:15

I used Right to Choose for gallbladder. Not sure we have much for MH here or ASD.

DS2 starts Monday after next.

crazycrofter · 26/09/2026 13:58

It can all be done online for autism so a national provider is fine.

Is ds1 focusing on the car at the moment and not the job situation? Such a shame as he took so long to get that job 😢 It sounds like he needs help with how to react when feeling overwhelmed and how to seek support? But maybe it also just wasn’t the right role?

OP posts:
Piggywaspushed · 26/09/2026 14:06

Both I think. He said at least at his previous job there were people his age to talk to.

He really doesn't want to work!

crazycrofter · 26/09/2026 14:14

Oh dear 😬 Such a worry for you! Is there any chance of him getting back in at Dunelm?

OP posts:
Piggywaspushed · 26/09/2026 14:21

He has considered it but doesn't want to work there in the Christmas season.

EffortlesslyDistracted · 26/09/2026 15:00

My DD used Psychiatry UK under right to choose for her ADHD assessment but it still took about a year.

I've had this with tyres and MOTs before. DH doesn't check his tyres and is probe to clipping kerbs. But I do all the MOTs and servicing because our garage/MOT place is 5mins walk to where I work and DH works in the arse end of nowhere. The MOT place doesn't do tyres routinely but can get them in the next day however there is a tyre place opposite. Once I had a call from the MOT place that DH's tyre had a gash in it in the middle of the afternoon when I was due to pick DS up at 4.30. I had to run to the garage, get the car over to the tyre place which luckily had the right one, then back to the MOT place for a re-test and back to work. Luckily my boss is very relaxed. I always check tyres a few days before now.

I'm so sorry all this has happed at once @Piggywaspushed perhaps DS just needs a bit of a break, worrying though it is.

NCTDN · 27/09/2026 18:45

@Piggywaspushed sounds like you’re really going through it at the moment. DH said I need to let my two learn from their own mistakes now they’re adults etc etc but it’s so hard to do!
I’m just way home from a couple of nights with DD which has been really lovely. She seems settled in her job and is living in a gorgeous area of Devon.

Aslockton · 29/09/2026 13:48

Well, I am enjoying my micro-retirement AKA having a day off! Work phoned this morning to ask if I could come in to cover for a colleague, it was great to say no. We had new carpets fitted this morning; it is good to be around for these things.

My un-sporty children who have morphed into sporty-adults have been at it again. You might remember DS doing an Ironman 5 weeks ago. He is a 3hr 30 marathon runner but it took him 5 hr 30 to run the marathon leg in the ironman as he was throwing up and had to walk a lot of it. Last weekend, he did the Warsaw marathon to see if he could get a good-for-age time to qualify for the London Marathon. He needed to run 2hr 52 min to get a good-for-age time. This was a tall order. However he ran 2 hrs 40mins, knocking 50 mins off his PB! Fingers crossed he gets a place.

Off out for a walk in the Autumn sunshine.

crazycrofter · 29/09/2026 15:48

Very impressive @Aslockton !!

Enjoy your day off!

We loved Blood Brothers and Come From Away. Come from Away was a local am-dram production, but you would never have guessed. It was fabulous and just as good as the West End production we saw. The best £20 I have spent in a long time.

How has everyone's week been?

Piggywaspushed · 02/10/2026 18:08

DS1 now has a working car. Halfords came round and fitted his tyre fir free after he complained. The rest of the stuff cost over £500...

DS2 moving to Worcester tomorrow. I'm losing my main buddy, so am feeling sad.

Aslockton · 02/10/2026 19:08

A bit of a drama here tonight. DD has left her bag on the train with her passport and laptop in it (she was distracted trying to get her bike off). She is due to be deployed abroad on Sunday and needs her passport. The train terminated in Manchester. She got a friend (who lives in Manchester) to go to the station and ask at lost property. She was told that nothing was brought in from that train and it usually turns around quickly for the return journey. So she is now racing back to the station she got off at to intercept the train at 8.15pm to see if her bag is still on the luggage rack.

Fingers crossed.

Aslockton · 02/10/2026 19:09

This is when you need an air tag.

NCTDN · 02/10/2026 19:31

@AslocktonI really hope she finds it. How stressful for her.

NCTDN · 02/10/2026 19:32

More chance of it still being there on a luggage rack than on a seat 🤞

crazycrofter · 02/10/2026 19:54

Oh no, fingers crossed @Aslockton! I remember when dd left her flute on the train on the way home from school - it never turned up 😬 This sounds rather more important though! 🤞

Yep, a 'work' laptop and a passport and not being able to go overseas for work. Very stressful and important.

Update: So DD got off at Oxford this afternoon, train carried on to Manchester. DD thought the train was coming back through Oxford so got DS to drive her there. She has a friend who is a 'train nerd' who realised her train was not going to Oxford but to Bristol - he can track trains on an app. Luckily DD has friends all over. She phoned a Bristol friend who raced to the station. The train was delayed, so friend was able to get there in time, go straight to the luggage rack next to the bike storage and there was DD's bag! Phew. DS and DD are now driving to Bristol to pick it up.

DD will soon have her bag, passport and the important laptop. It has been a long evening.

crazycrofter · 02/10/2026 20:55

Phew, that’s a relief @Aslockton ! Well done to the helpful friends too 👏

Sorry you’re feeling sad @Piggywaspushed. Moving out ‘for good’ (hopefully!) is a big milestone! Hope he enjoys his new job and settles into Worcester quickly.
