The old thread has filled up and no one noticed - I think we're missing @oblomov26 sharp eyes!

I've tried to tag in everyone I can think of, but apologies to anyone I've missed!

Foreign companies to turn into HMOs probably.

BlueMarigold · 23/06/2026 21:35

Wow @Delphigirl that’s insane! My mum regrets moving out of London. She says if she’d stayed there they’d be millionaires by now.

Delphigirl · 23/06/2026 21:41

They do say never sell a house in london… wow

EwwSprouts · 23/06/2026 22:30

@BlueMarigold Congratulations to your DD, fabulous result!

Oblomov26 · 23/06/2026 23:01

Loving all these results. And Paddington!
welcome Lentil.

crazycrofter · 24/06/2026 08:44

That's crazy @Delphigirl ! Although that was an expensive house in 1997 too - our first house in Birmingham in 2000 was £45k 😂and is worth about £200k now!

Dd starts her new job today, on no sleep due to the heat 😩I dropped her at the station early and she was quite grumpy and tired, but I'm sure adrenaline will see her through. Just hope the trains are still running this evening...

Our first house was 62k (about 1994) now worth about 280k. 2.85m though, that is truly bonkers.

Seeline · 24/06/2026 10:43

Just had a message from DD - she got a First!! So pleased for her - she has worked so hard, and really dug in deep after her aborted first 1st year.

Our house in the south London suburbs was £101K in 1996, which was a great deal at the time. We still live here so not sure on exact value but probably 'only' about £600-625K judging by others in the road.

crazycrofter · 24/06/2026 10:56

Congratulations to your dd @seeline, that's brilliant!

Oh well done to her @Seeline !

Lentilcakes · 24/06/2026 11:23

Yay, DS got a first!! He really worked hard despite his MH being very poor at times.
We live in London - we rent out our old flat - DH bought it in 1994 for about £64000 and it’s now worth at least £500,000.
Unf our current house (new build) which we’ve been in for 12 years hasn’t increased in price. I think we’ll have to wait until DC properly leave so we can downsize.
DS says he wants to move out once he gets a job & DD is desperate to move, but skint.

EffortlesslyDistracted · 24/06/2026 11:32

Another well done @Lentilcakes !

We never got round to upsizing (there were good reasons) so we are in a 3 bed terrace that has always been a bit small for our needs esp as the DCs don't look like going anywhere soon but we do like it here. I do sometimes dream of the big house with a huge garden and space for craft rooms etc but realistically we will probably stay put now. We are in walking distance of everything yet still quiet and easy parking etc, plus a great view and nice neighbours. Our issue will be if the DCs start bringing home partners - one of our neighbours ended up upsizing in their 50s for this reason, 3 DCs that kept bouncing back bringing masses of stuff, partners, pets, cars.

Seeline · 24/06/2026 12:03

@Lentilcakes congratulations to your DS!

craggyrat · 24/06/2026 12:29

That's fantastic @Seeline and @Lentilcakes - well done to both!

We bought 2001 in Harrogate for 171k and now valued at 595k. Still live in it. Goodness me London prices are terrifying! I audibly gasped at that increase in value!!

Aslockton · 24/06/2026 18:18

Congratulations to @Seeline and @Lentilcakes. You both must be so proud.

We bought in 1995. Our 1st house was a 4 bed Victorian terrace in the SE which we bought for 70k (we were both NQT teachers earning 12k each). We sold it 8 years later for 240k. We bought a 4 bed detached for 384k about 1/4 mile away from our first home. It is now worth around 900k. Bonkers really for 2 mainscale teachers who have never been in the higher tax bracket. DD will be earning more that either of us has ever earnt next year aged 26.

Shimy · 24/06/2026 18:25

Hi everyone, haven't been on for a while.
Congratulations to all those getting their final results. DS2 comes home this friday.
How's everyone coping in this heat? i had a swim this afternoon and still feel like im going to have heat stroke. God knows how we're going to sleep tonight, i can't get comfortable on the best of nights. I hope those who were ill are feeling much better.

And to your DS @Lentilcakes ! Really fab results, I’m so thrilled for these clever kids!

OublietteBravo · 25/06/2026 12:39

DS passed all of his second year exams. I think he’s a bit disappointed with his overall average though. Still, plenty of time to improve things next year.

mummyinbeds · 25/06/2026 12:59

My turn today - DD got a 2.1 with a first in her dissertation. I'm so proud of her. She's celebrating on the beach before I brave the 5 hour drive on Saturday to collect her and her mountain of stuff for the final time. I'm hoping the weather forecast is correct and the West of Wales is cooling down for the weekend.
Another 2 weeks to wait for DS's results 😬

EwwSprouts · 25/06/2026 13:43

@Seeline @Lentilcakes @mummyinbeds Congratulations on the fantastic results.

@OublietteBravo Definitely! Year 3 carried more weighting on DS's course.

I bought my first little terraced house for £21k in1986, faced a large warehouse! Now they sell on that street for £130k. London prices are just incredible. I've spoken with DS about how if he can foresee wanting to live in London (lots of friend there) then he needs to try to go now to build a high earning career but he is adamant not. Currently he is driving daily to Malton over the Wolds and has posted on soc media photos of the beautiful countryside asking who would choose a commute on the Tube?

Shimy · 25/06/2026 14:25

Congratulations all, again, what clever sprogs you've got! @mummyinbeds @Seeline @Lentilcakes . DS2 hasn't got his yet, he said they were told its going to be a long time, infact they might never come out...to which i replied i hope they bl**dy well do because graduation is in July.

craggyrat · 25/06/2026 15:51

Fantastic news @mummyinbeds ! And celebrating on beach sounds amazing

@EwwSprouts I am Team Malton all the way! I am sat at work fantasising about being in Filey even as we speak...i could do a rock pool right now...

EwwSprouts · 25/06/2026 16:04

@craggyrat Love Filey. One of DS's A level field trips was the rock pools! I've just sent a message to a friend to see if she fancies a beach walk at Fraisthorpe tomorrow after work.

EffortlesslyDistracted · 25/06/2026 16:09

Oh, I love Filey too, it is a very special place for my extended family and I still have relatives there
