The old thread has filled up and no one noticed - I think we're missing @oblomov26 sharp eyes!

I've tried to tag in everyone I can think of, but apologies to anyone I've missed!

Sadly, what with living on the South coast I don't get there very often

craggyrat · 25/06/2026 16:21

Filey is the best. Like being back in 1976! We had a caravan there in the early 70s when I was a child and would go every weekend in summer. We still go from time to time - we like going to the stained glass centre first for coffee and teacakes. DS used to love that

EwwSprouts · 25/06/2026 16:22

Who knew we would have another connection as a Filey appreciation club?

Shimy · 25/06/2026 16:28

No looking up what Filey is all about. Did any your dc have graduation parties? ds is having a graduation barbecue. Hoping the weather is still nice in July. Still job hunting.

mummyinbeds · 25/06/2026 16:41

Can I join the Filey appreciation club please. Spent many a 70's/80's summer there, riding donkeys on the beach and playing in the paddling pool. My Grandma had a caravan just along the coast in Cayton Bay.

OublietteBravo · 25/06/2026 16:49

We either went to Scarborough or Whitley Bay. I don’t think I’ve ever been to Filey. Which is odd considering how much time I spent in the Whitby/ Scarborough/ Pickering/ Malton area.

EwwSprouts · 25/06/2026 17:18

@mummyinbeds You may!

@OublietteBravo Never too late. Scarborough has almost daily dolphin sightings now from Marine Drive. Lots of my friends have been to the Open Air Theatre for some fantastic bands if you need a reason for a return visit.

@shimy No graduation party. We took DS out for a meal directly after graduation. He had a night on the town with friends at home the following weekend. A BBQ sounds ideal. What young man doesn't love meat stacked high?!

NCTDN · 25/06/2026 19:30

Dd also got her results through today and a high 2;1 😊She’s currently sunning herself in France before back to job hunting..,

EffortlesslyDistracted · 25/06/2026 20:39

Congrats to her @NCTDN ! I hadn't realised we had so many finishing this year, it is lovely hearing all the results coming in.

@Shimy no party here, my two are just not party people. I think it's a lovely idea and would encourage it. Although perhaps not in this heat. I am wilting here in the middle of the red zone.

NCTDN · 25/06/2026 20:44

We’re coming down to Bristol on Saturday to empty her house. It better have cooled down by then!

Shimy · 25/06/2026 20:52

Meant to say, 'Now' looking up Filey. It's looks great, its about 3-4 hrs drive from us. We've done 5hrs to Cornwall before so it should be doable one of these days or perhaps next spring.

DS1 asked to all go for a meal after the ceremony for his, which we did and it was great. We thought DS2 would be doing the same but he announced he preferred to have a barbecue at home. Driving up to Leamington 1st thing tomorrow bring him home and praying he has followed my advice and packed everything before i arrive so we can be home before the sun is high.

EwwSprouts · 25/06/2026 21:17

@NCTDN Congratulations!

Seeline · 25/06/2026 22:25

@mummyinbeds and @NCTDN great news in the results!

All my childhood holidays were in the south coast - Pevensey Bay, Littlehampton, Bexhill and the occasional trip over the water to the Isle of Wight. We didn't have a car so everything had to be accessible by train from South London. I'm not sure I'd been north of London until I was 15 😁

craggyrat · 26/06/2026 07:39

@NCTDN that's fab re degree! Great result

@mummyinbeds ah Cayton Bay! Our caravan was at The Flowers of May just outside Filey. I probably passed you on a donkey!

No graduation party here. DS started work at his college straight after graduation

craggyrat · 26/06/2026 07:43

Absolute massive storm here just now. I love a good storm but am glad I'm sat in Starbucks just watching it

Decorhate · 26/06/2026 09:11

Great to hear all the results coming in. Ds is waiting to hear about one last piece of work.

We are also heading to Bristol this weekend - to help ds1 relocate to London. This involves through London to his new flat....

For graduation celebrations, we just go out for a family meal and then the YP heads out with their friends who are also graduating that day for drinks etc.

crazycrofter · 26/06/2026 10:49

Congratulations to the offspring of @Lentilcakes @mummyinbeds @nctdn! They've all done so well!

Dd is waiting for her dissertation result so I don't think she'll have her overall degree result until 10th July. She's on a 2:1 at the moment though and just has to pass the diss. I think she's hoping for a decent mark on that: they look at their full transcripts for the DClinPsy and research is the most important area, so it would offset a couple of dodgy but less relevant marks from this year! She seems to be really enjoying the job so far - she started on Wednesday,

@shimy - I hadn't clicked that ds was in Leamington - we're just down the road! Hope you have a good journey. It's hot here today... but I'm guessing it's hot everywhere!

We used to go to France camping as we live on the south coast. Also Cornwall and the IOW sometimes. Always camping. But we also travelled north in the UK a lot as my parents are from Yorkshire (that’s where the Filey link comes from) and Scotland. DH is a Brummie. All of this means I am very familiar with the central strip of the UK but have only ever been to East Anglia a couple of times, Wales a handful of times, never really been to Kent, Essex, Cambridgeshire, Shropshire, we’ve always been up and down the M1 and M6. We are trying to remedy this now, in the last few years we have been to West Wales, North Norfolk, Cheshire.

EffortlesslyDistracted · 26/06/2026 13:30

Yes hot here but not as hot as it was the last few days. We are not far from where one of the record temperatures was reached earlier in the week.

crazycrofter · 26/06/2026 13:51

I'd never been to Norfolk either as a child - but have been twice as an adult now. We did Wales a lot when we were young. One of my brothers and my parents now live in Shropshire and I can recommend it - very pretty and not busy.

We also love York and Yorkshire...

Congrats to @NCTDNdd!
Not sure what will go on re graduation day - the uni splits their graduations by schools so it’ll just be his coursemates. I think we’re just going to go for the day but he could crash at someone’s house as he’s got friends staying up or doing a masters.
W DD she stayed up in her uni town so we did meal then they all went out.
