Thread 54 - Summer 25 - Graduations after Uni Year 3

Oblomov25 · 20/06/2025 17:15

This is a support thread for our young adults post GCSEs 2020, regardless of their educational setting, and their results ( or life updates for those who went into work or have had results earlier). It is respectfully requested that all are supportive and helpful to each other. If you want to start a debate, e.g state vs private, uni vs employment please don't within this thread.
Some of us have been here since first thread back in yr10, some will be new. Everyone has been friendly and helpful in the past. Everyone is welcome. It is hoped this will continue. We were previously on the secondary board and then further education, now we shall be here in 'Parents of Adult Children' gulp
Our DS/DD may continue down various pathways ( employment, apprenticeships, higher ed). Experience is that everyone is welcomed wherever, whatever their child is doing we have some in work, gap years , apprenticeships etc too. Lots of contributors with different experiences and always sympathy and advice to be had.

Sorry to hear your mum is unwell @Piggywaspushed .
Dd got her results and was pleased (2:1) so can now confirm her conditional place on the Masters.
Hope everyone is coping with this heat!

PhotoDad · 13/07/2025 09:53

I'm sorry to hear that, @Piggywaspushed.

Shimy · 13/07/2025 14:21

@piggywaspushed Very sorry to hear about your dm's poor health. I imagine it's especially difficult for you as you've mentioned your strained relationship before making things even more awkward but one which adult dc with such parents must brace themselves for. Its definitely not a picnic!

EwwSprouts · 13/07/2025 14:28

@cariadambyth Congratulations to your DD! Hope she has a lovely summer before back to the books.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 13/07/2025 20:04

Well done to your DD @cariadambyth ! DS gets his tomorrow, I’m bracing myself. 😬

Alwaysplayspicc · 14/07/2025 11:55

Congratulations to your DD, cariadambyth and good luck to your DS, JustHereWithMyPopcorn.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 14/07/2025 12:07

By the skin of his teeth he's made his 2:1 , I was about to say that this degree business is more stressful than all of his previous exams and then I remember Covid...

Good luck to other Notts folk today and anybody else waiting for results.

Oblomov25 · 14/07/2025 12:19

Sorry to hear about Mum Piggy. Congratulations cariadambyth dd on her 2:1, fab. And Popcorn ds with his similarly great 2:1. Today ds1 got his exam results and passed all 3, including the biggie Tax, so all good. He's currently at Keswick Christian Festival, working in the cafe all week in order to get free entry and accommodation.

More great results - congratulations to all!

Cantonet · 14/07/2025 12:30

Great results all!

ExtensivelyDecorating · 14/07/2025 13:08

Well done to DCs of @cariadambyth @Oblomov25 @JustHereWithMyPopcorn and anyone else I've missed.

Question for those who have attended graduations or are about to, what did you do after the ceremony, photos etc? Go off somewhere as a family? DCs go off with their friends? I can't remember exactly what happened after mine, I have a funny feeling a group of us block booked a restaurant and all went with our families.

EwwSprouts · 14/07/2025 15:32

@JustHereWithMyPopcorn & @Oblomov25 Congratulations to the respective DSs. Great news.

@ExtensivelyDecorating After graduation there was mingling with a drink and DS went off with friends for a while. Most people, including us, went for family evening meals. There were four graduation ceremonies each day over seven days and all the student properties were mainly vacate by 30th June so good friends not necessarily around. DS graduated on the Wednesday and his two flatmates on the Friday early morning, so they lunched and went home the same day.

ExtensivelyDecorating · 14/07/2025 15:52

Thanks @EwwSprouts all
on one day for DS (small uni) and we have only booked to stay the night before not after at the moment, it's a morning ceremony and we are 90 minutes away.

Alwaysplayspicc · 14/07/2025 18:05

Congratulations, JustHere and Oblomov!

Re: graduations - Birmingham had a graduation marquee where gradients and 2 guests could enjoy a glass of Prosecco. There were also faculty photos and then various friends went off with their families for meals (we had a cheeky Nando’s on the way home, with the plan to have a proper celebration dinner on holiday next week).

blinkbonny · 14/07/2025 20:33

Bonny young Blink also got his results today, rather late in the day as he was looking in the wrong place on the portal 🤦‍♀️and he managed to get a First! He had found his dissertation result (also a First) and was pleased enough with that, but thought he’d have to wait till later in the week for other results. But he kept looking around and found his way to the full result.

I can’t tell you - or rather, this group is one of the few I’m not related to who I can tell - how proud I am of him. He’s had a number of struggles and has managed so well throughout. From going off three years ago, nervous and gormless, he’s now such a confident and capable young man and I’m so pleased his efforts got this recognition. He’s still pretty gormless at times, not gonna lie, but I couldn’t be prouder.

Well done on all the other great results too - such a milestone for all our young ones!

ealingwestmum · 14/07/2025 20:49

Loving all these results coming through, huge, huge congratulations to them all!

Oblomov25 · 14/07/2025 22:04

Blink it's so nice that you can actually share your pride with us, here on this nice thread. A 1st is massive. Sometimes we all don't want to boast do we? , in RL, but we can here!!

Ah lovely @blinkbonny well
done to him. I was just thinking earlier, if DS passes his driving test next week you lot are going to be the first to know after DH (he's taking it in my car so I'll be there).

EwwSprouts · 14/07/2025 22:54

@blinkbonny Huge congratulations to BYB! A proud mum moment is definitely merited. Enjoy celebrating with him.

mummyinbeds · 14/07/2025 23:18

Congratulations to all those getting results today. DS's phone was beeping like crazy all morning with updates from his Nottingham friends. I think he was feeling a bit left out 😂 He has decided he's going to get stuck in next year and work really hard. He's winged his way through uni so far so we'll see.

crazycrofter · 14/07/2025 23:45

Well done @Oblomov25 @JustHereWithMyPopcorn and @blinkbonny - fantastic news! 🎉

Dd had her results (1 year still to go). After an average of 55 last year, she’s managed 67 this year, so we’re all pleased and relieved. If she’d graduated this year she’d get a 2:1 and a mark of 63. Quite a few of the clinical psych courses want 65+ which is why she’s doing the fourth year - she will need to average 68 next year 🤞.

craggyrat · 15/07/2025 07:27

Massive congrats to everyone with results!

Re graduation. DS place had marquee and deckchairs on lawn beforehand withvteas coffees soft drinks provided and photo firm if you'd booked it in one of the gardens. Then they had group photo - there's only about 130 of them but DS friends spread across year groups so his post grad friends were different days and some 4 year courses so it was a real mix. Then after the graduation it was pre booked lovely meal in college grounds with endless prosecco which I took full advantage of as not driving.... We left at 4ish as had stayed previous night and I think DS just had an early night! He is now working crazy hours at summer school and hopefully earning lots and working on a good Masters application for next year.

He didn't get TA job at schoo near us - first reserve which was disappointing but he can always find temp jobs hopefully when home.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 15/07/2025 08:27

Amazing news @blinkbonny well done to your DS!

Alwaysplayspicc · 15/07/2025 09:16

Fantastic achievement, blinkbonny! You have every reason to be proud and I hope he is too.

crazy, that is some very impressive progress/improvement, so I’m sure your DD will achieve her ambition in her final year.
It does rather feel that years 1 and 2 are a steep learning curve - DD’s overall 2nd year result was 59.5, I think, with some assignments in the mid 50s, but she graduated with 65.7 (even after losing 10 marks in one assignment for a missed deadline) and all her 3rd year results were between 65 and 72.

She said herself that she could look back at her earlier work and see what needed to improve, which is a huge thing for DD.

Aslockton · 15/07/2025 09:25

Congratulations to all on great results.

Thanks for the info on graduation @craggyrat . We have our DS’s next week. Sorry your DS did not get the TA job. Is he still applying for the army?

DS started his grad job yesterday. He had a great first day. He is finding the house share with 6 (anti-social) strangers harder going. They all get food and take it to their room. No one sits in the communal area or interacts. Luckily DS has joined a gym and athletics club to make some friends in this new area.
