Thread 54 - Summer 25 - Graduations after Uni Year 3

Oblomov25 · 20/06/2025 17:15

This is a support thread for our young adults post GCSEs 2020, regardless of their educational setting, and their results ( or life updates for those who went into work or have had results earlier). It is respectfully requested that all are supportive and helpful to each other. If you want to start a debate, e.g state vs private, uni vs employment please don't within this thread.
Some of us have been here since first thread back in yr10, some will be new. Everyone has been friendly and helpful in the past. Everyone is welcome. It is hoped this will continue. We were previously on the secondary board and then further education, now we shall be here in 'Parents of Adult Children' gulp
Our DS/DD may continue down various pathways ( employment, apprenticeships, higher ed). Experience is that everyone is welcomed wherever, whatever their child is doing we have some in work, gap years , apprenticeships etc too. Lots of contributors with different experiences and always sympathy and advice to be had.

Absolutely fabulous day. Heading back up the A1 soon but was so good. Can't believe those 3 years are done! He has an interview online next week for TA fixed term for a year at home so fingers crossed as that would fund Masterz

Thanks for the tag @Piggywaspushed

DD is going into 3rd year at Chichester Uni doing a BAhons in Primary Education with PE specialism - graduates next summer then has her 2 years ECT so will be applying for that in Dec / Jan. she’s hoping to get a placement in our home town as she’s a real home bird (boyfriend lives next town to ours and she’ll get to see her cat daily)
We’re in Amsterdam at the moment celebrating her 21st too.

Happy birthday to all those who have one this week and all the best with the graduation ceremonies.

So lovely to know this thread will carry on as not all our DC have graduated yet and I hope it goes on for a good while yet x

AnneOfCleavage · 04/07/2025 19:13

Hehe just cross posted with you @Piggywaspushed

Piggywaspushed · 04/07/2025 19:14

I will update my list !

mummyinbeds · 04/07/2025 19:46

Thanks for the list @Piggywaspushed . Interesting (or not) to see three of the Nottingham Rutlanders are still there for another year. Was there a fourth one of them?

crazycrofter · 04/07/2025 19:55

Yes @mummyinbeds - shout out to @heifer to come back and update us!

cariadambyth · 04/07/2025 20:27

@Piggywaspushed thanks for the updated list. Dd will be doing her masters (2:2 depending) in Marketing. She thought a more vocational one might help her find a job slightly more easily although I don’t think much helps these days!
@ExtensivelyDecorating im so glad your dd has firmed RHUL. I can’t speak highly enough of it. I think on Mumsnet, outside of this lovely part, it gets a bad press. She has made so many friends, all of whom stay and don’t go home every weekend and she’s done plenty of partying. The history department has been very efficient and supportive, especially her dissertation tutor. It’ll be interesting to hear how your dd finds it.

ExtensivelyDecorating · 04/07/2025 21:13

@cariadambyth I was so cross with someone I know through work who lives not far from RHUL (we aren’t that far ourselves but too far too commute). I told him and he did a sharp intake of breath and said “bad mistake” but he is in his 40s and he was basing that on very out of date and vague recollections of it being quiet at weekends etc. We have visited several times and DD really likes it (DS also applied there so two rounds of open days). She’s just got to get the grades now. So pleased to hear how it has turned out for your DD.

@Piggywaspushed thank you for sorting the list out again.

Good to hear from you @AnneOfCleavage - we did an Open Day at Chi and I really liked it.

There was someone with a DC at Surrey Uni - another name that began with a C I think?

Oblomov25 · 04/07/2025 21:16

Thanks for the list Piggy.

Ds hasn't graduated yet. He's finished year 3, but it's a 4 year course, because of the work experience, so he'll graduate next summer 26.

Lovely to hear of all the graduations.
great idea @Piggywaspushed as I’m very forgetful!
DD is doing MLibArts at Bristol. She’s just finished her year abroad in Austria - totally lived her best life and I can’t recommend enough- so one more year at uni.
DS is now waiting for A level results day and hoping to go to Sheffield for engineering Wink
Not heard from @photodadin ages?

Piggywaspushed · 04/07/2025 22:01

Your name will also go on the list.

Very old sitcom reference there.

Yes Photodad! Whither art thou?

ealingwestmum · 04/07/2025 22:16

I think the Surrey boy was ican’s (can’t remember her full name), also roll calling @sansou, @Vivienne1000 as a couple of others that have been on recently?

AnneOfCleavage · 04/07/2025 22:20

@ExtensivelyDecoratingDD is really happy at Chichester Uni although she is on the Bognor Regis campus for most of her classes and goes to Chi for the PE side of her specialism. She gets the best of both worlds as Chi is busier with lots more going on and Bognor has the beach and park and a more personal feel to the uni campus.

ExtensivelyDecorating · 04/07/2025 22:22

ealingwestmum · 04/07/2025 22:16

I think ican... was Sussex.

@cantonet is who I was thinking of. I do lose track a bit.

ealingwestmum · 04/07/2025 22:24

Yes of course, thanks @ExtensivelyDecorating

crazycrofter · 05/07/2025 00:16

@icanbewhatiwant Ds is Sussex - History? He’s been in Australia hasn’t he?

icanbewhatiwant · 05/07/2025 06:54

@crazycrofteryes Ds is at Sussex. He arrived home last Friday. He started his summer job on the Monday. Ds1 is home from travelling, so all 3 ds’s are home for the first time since Jan 2023. One more year at Sussex to go, then he is thinking of a masters or a years teacher training. That’ll be 5 years of uni if he does that. In 2 years time ds3 will go to uni too. Ds1 was at uni before that. That’s lots of years with one of them at uni. I suppose at least we haven’t had 2 there at the same time as that would be expensive.

craggyrat · 05/07/2025 07:29

Thanks for the list @Piggywaspushed

Lovely to hear everyone's updates

cariadambyth · 05/07/2025 08:05

@ExtensivelyDecorating the comments made by your colleague are exactly the sort of comments I’ve heard. I get so frustrated by them but what can you do? Some people are just ill informed and like to talk with authority about something they don’t really know anything about. More fool them. Feel free to ask any questions and I’ll do my best to answer them.

Shimy · 05/07/2025 11:42

@Piggywaspushed Thanks for the new list. It's a bit sad how reduced it is, but also good because they've all moved on to greater things.
