Thread 54 - Summer 25 - Graduations after Uni Year 3

This is a support thread for our young adults post GCSEs 2020, regardless of their educational setting, and their results ( or life updates for those who went into work or have had results earlier). It is respectfully requested that all are supportive and helpful to each other. If you want to start a debate, e.g state vs private, uni vs employment please don't within this thread.
Some of us have been here since first thread back in yr10, some will be new. Everyone has been friendly and helpful in the past. Everyone is welcome. It is hoped this will continue. We were previously on the secondary board and then further education, now we shall be here in 'Parents of Adult Children' gulp
Our DS/DD may continue down various pathways ( employment, apprenticeships, higher ed). Experience is that everyone is welcomed wherever, whatever their child is doing we have some in work, gap years , apprenticeships etc too. Lots of contributors with different experiences and always sympathy and advice to be had.

Hi DS2 going into 3rd year Ocean Exploration and Surveying, Plymouth. DD4 about to start at Exeter 4 year Masters in Arabic

I forgot to add DS2, he’s in Yr 12 about to start the UCAS process and wants to do Chemistry. Is your DS enjoying it @OublietteBravo ?

I also have Ds about to (maybe) go to uni, although it depends on the day. Tonight he was explaining to me that he ‘just’ wants to live an exceptional life - that makes things so much clearer then!

Thanks, am working on the list. I'm only going to put the ones on that brought us together in the first place if that's OK! ie those going into year 4 of studies or graduating or that equivalent.

Good morning, I hope you don’t mind me creeping back in. It’s been lovely to read all the news, a mixed bag but what an incredible bunch. What support! Dd has had the most wonderful three years doing History at Royal Holloway, it really was the making of her after a tricky time in school. She gets her results next week and graduates on 30th. She’s off to Cardiff to do a Masters in September, a delaying tactic but hopefully a useful one.

Oh, I'd forgotten we had a RHUL history student! That's what my DD has firmed, so glad to hear it's been great for your DD.

DS graduates today. Gorgeous weather this morning. We stayed in college overnight which was really nice but not looking forward to A1 at 5pm tonight...Saw some of the other colleges graduating yesterday which was fun.

For the list, DS graduating from Cambridge in history. Working in his College over summer as TA at summer school. Coming home for a year to work hopefully and earn enough for Masters back here but also has ongoing army application so who knows!

@Piggywaspushed if you think 3pm is late, DS's is at 4pm! At least we don't have to book a hotel for the night before I suppose. We do have to get back the same day though as DS2 is flying off on a school trip the next morning. 😬

DS1's at Lincoln was 5pm. We got home after midnight...

I am just going to @ a few people who I don't have full details of their DCs for this cohort if you want to add. I sometimes have partial info but sometimes not the location and/or subject, or what they are doing next (now if already working).

DS didn't finish uni, is working in engineering, very happy now after a very rocky period and an awful uni experience, looking to start OU degree later this year.

Is anyone else finishing uni still waiting for final grade confirmation? It feels as if everyone else has known for ages now. Graduation is in Sept so no rush I guess but it would be nice to know.

@ExtensivelyDecorating yes DS is, should get his results in 10 days. Neither of us is looking forward to it..

@Delphigirl is your dd4 your fourth daughter (ie you have four daughters and two sons) or your fourth child?! I know you’ve also got the Ds in the toxic job and the kind dd who spoke to my Ds about her work.

Sorry she is dd2 dc4. I have 4 kids - In order dd, DS, DS, dd.
so when I said ds3 I meant ds2 (but dc3). Sorry to be confusing!!
